Kitty's pregnant?! Damn it, now I have to start reading that book again.

It's looking like a supernatural pregnancy, I doubt she actually has a kid.

Yea she went from flat stomach to about four months pregnant in the span of like a week or two

...It's the Brood, right?

I just figured that with that, on top of the whole Alien-style incubation thing, it was fairly obvious. Should I have considered it spoilers or something..?

Marvel is proud to present your first look at Age of Apocalypse #1, from the creative team of Dave Lapham and Roberto De La Torre. Spinning out of the critically acclaimed Uncanny X-Force, the Amazing X-Men and the human resistance must fight tooth and nail to end the tyranny that has left their world ravaged! Continuing Apocalypse’s war on humanity, Weapon X leads the genocide that rains down upon this dimension, eliminating any who stand in his way.

“This new Age of Apocalypse book does the impossible – it revolutionizes an old concept without a reboot,” explains Senior Editor Nick Lowe. “If you’ve been reading Uncanny X-Force, you know where this is coming from and you’re already in. If you’re an Age of Apocalypse junkie, this builds on the alternate universe’s mythology is fascinating and troubling ways. And if you aren’t either and just want a ground-breaking, easy-entry book that will challenge everything you know about the X-Men, there hasn’t been a better jumping on point.”

Can anyone stop the evil Weapon X and who are the X-Terminated? Find out in Age of Apocalypse #1, with a cover by Humberto Ramos and Dean White that no fan can miss, hitting comic shops everywhere and the Marvel Comics app, this March!

Gillen and Lanning "Exile" "New Mutants" & "Journey Into Mystery"
http://www.comicbookresources.com/assets/images/articles/1329162802.jpg
Marvel Comics' Next Big Thing extravaganza is back with live press conference calls throughout the week on Marvel's latest projects. Last week was a veritable cornucopia of announcements including Brian Michael Bendis, Mark Bagley and Tom Brevoort on "Avengers Assemble" as well as the reveal of eleven "Avengers vs. X-Men" covers, including the "Avengers" #26 cover by Walt Simonson. Today, Marvel continued its announcement slate with a preview of "Exiled," a "Journey Into Mystery"/"New Mutants" crossover event with series writers Kieron Gillen and Andy Lanning.

"There's a history between New Mutants and Asgard," noted Lanning, who said Gillen had an "idiotic eureka moment."

Gillen noted some of what's happening in "Exiled" will hearken back to some of the things he's been playing with for some time all the way back to his time on "New Mutants."

"We really wanted to mess with that history and have characters travel to Asgard, so it is a little twist on how these stories have normally played out. We're trying to play it that there are some really cool reveals and surprises along the way," said Lanning.

The interior artist is Carmine Di Giandomenico, who both writers are excited to work with. His image of hell is "unlike any version of Hell I've ever seen in a Marvel book," noted Gillen.

"It feels good to do this," said Gillen, who previously wrote "New Mutants." "In the interim between the two books, there's a reason why I stole 'Magik' for 'Uncanny,'" he noted of his time between "New Mutants" and "Uncanny X-Men." According to Gillen, some of the events of "Exiled" spin out of the tie-in issues of "Fear Itself."

"This is fun, we found ourselves dealing a lot with stuff as we were locking thing down with this," said Lanning. "Kieron brings a great sense of fun with these heroic characters in an old-style traditional bardic sort of sense. There's a tone that Kieron struck in that book that’s quite easy and fun to pick up with and have a laugh with. We're basically just aping what Kieron does."

"He's got a very angular approach, and does the grayscale art that will look fantastic in color. His storytelling is absolutely spot on," said Lanning. "His body language and drawing has made me giggle a number of times."

In terms of crossing over "New Mutants" and "Journey Into Mystery," Gillen noted "It seemed like a natural place to go," saying he wanted to explore what the Dsir are really about. "I turned them from pure villains into something a little more morally greyer. The last issue of 'Journey Into Mystery,' Loki was a little distraught over betraying them. I have all this energy and that all came from the 'New Mutants' plotline. ... It was a great place to resolve that story and bring the Dsir to their big apocalyptic climax. ... The idea is putting the New Mutants into more of a protectoring role."

Gillen also elaborated on the Dsir's role in the upcoming crossover, saying the spirits are like "a ghost story to Gods." "Where we've left them is deep in the pit of Mephisto's hell. They're trapped forever unless there's old magic that nobody knew about. … Then, maybe there's trouble for everyone."

"I'd say look in San Francisco [for old magic,]" said Lanning.

Lanning also joked about the number of text boxes in Gillen's "Journey to Mystery." "Absolutely, that's somehting that Kieron insisted we did," said Lanning. "He also sent us templates and several words we had to use. It's part of his rider list for the crossover. We've had lessons on how to do bardic and Norse verse."

The crossover runs only in May as a five issue event, with a one-shot to start, then crosses from "Journey Into Mystery" #637, goes to "New Mutants" #42, followed by "Journey" #638" and "New Mutants" #43. "New Mutants" will also play a role in "AvX," being a part of the mutant population.

Lanning noted how the New Mutants will find the roles reversed from the times past when the mutants previously found themselves in Asgard. "That's where we've played the games tight. It's like Asgard coming into their backyard as it were. They're the ones taking charge here," said Lanning. Gillon noted the Asgardians find themselves in the position of being the younger ones in this particular instance.

"We're the palette cleanser, we're the light relief," said Lanning of the tone of the event, mentioning how fun was the focus of the book. "You don't get more fun than Asgardians and mutants running around trying to stop flesh-eating zombies in San Francisco."

"We've repeatedly be repaid with awesomeness by the guys," said editor John Denning. "They've managed to keep that tone by having these ghost villains and [having humor.] We couldn't be happier."

Gillen and Lanning have divided the writing chores, something Gillen noted as "casual and cool." The two writers have been co-plotting all the way through. "It's been a unique experience in my comic career," said Gillen.

As for the other Asgardians in the story, the writers mentioned Thor, Hela, the Warriors Three and Sif would all be making appearances.

The writers also spoke to choosing the name of the series, "Exiled." "The name of the series was probably the easiest thing we had to do," said Lanning.

"None of the names we initially came up with felt like it had the larger context for the event," said Editor Lauren Sankovitch. "The New Mutants are self-imposed exiles. They've gone out to live in San Francisco. For the members of Asgard, they'll be coming to San Francisco and out of their element and will find themselves in precarious elements. … For the Dsir themselves, these cannibal time bombs, they've been exiled this entire existence. They've been these fringe elements as parts of the God world since their inception."

Lanning also mentioned the old New Mutant crew, such as Cannonball and Wolfsbane, would not be joining this crossover. "No, unfortunately not in these issues. Once the story unfolds, you'll see why that is, but no we're just dealing with the cast that are living in San Francisco at this point in time."

With that, the call wrapped. "Exiled," written by Kieron Gillen, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning with interior art by Carmine Di Giandomenico and covers by Stephanie Hans, kicks off in May with the "Exiled" #1 one-shot followed by weekly installments, finishing at the end of the month.

What would he take over though? They just restarted the top two titles. I guess they could give him adjectiveless but even then, what's the point? I mean, why now would he jump on when the mutants are divided so clearly. Do we need that X-Men and Uncanny debate over which is the better Scott Summers book? Heavens know we don't need another Wolverine book out there. I just don't see the benefit of him going over there right now. Who could he possibly have his eyes on that aren't under someone's guidance already?

Dollars to donuts it probably has just as much to do with making sure Bendis is still on one of top Marvel's franchises as it does with whatever story he wanted to tell. With him wrapping up his Avengers stuff they probably wanted to keep him in the limelight and that means either X-Men or Spider-Man. I assume that he'll be taking over Uncanny since that would meant he two main X-books would be written by "Architects".

Last weekend I asked Whilce Portacio about last year's Schism between the X-Men since he was part of the team that split the X-Men into the Blue and Gold teams in 1992.

http://www.retrojunk.com/img/art-images/goldteamvsblueteam.jpg

Portacio, didn't think it was good to split Wolverine and Cyclops up since they were perfect match up of characters from opposing different points of view. He also felt that Scott was right in Schism because that's what he's been trained to do; protect and defend mutants.

Hypo

Man Schism really could have been handled better...the premise was decent enough but it really escalated too fast, and came off as nothing more than editorial BS with the mini acting as a way to get from point A to point B.

Wolverine and the X-men once again proved it is far better than the crapfest that is Uncanny X-men.

Final issue of X-23 :mad::redring::mad::redring::mad::redring:

And that's not because it was the final issue but because of the final issue we got. Spoilers....you know what fuck that there was nothing to spoil. this was a whol issue of FUCKING NOTHING!!! 20 some odd pages of Laura riding around god knows where dreaming she was sleeping naked in the forrest with wolves, then finding actual wolves, then finding out that one of the white wolves was some kind of spirit/shaman thing who gives her some crazy vision of Laura fighting with herself to imply that she is still trying to figure out who she is. Not a single word, sound effect, or even punctuation in the entire issue and she just rides off into the sunset. They even had the nerve to put "The end and the beginning" at the back of the book. And just when you think they may say something about the book or story or whatever in the letters page all they do is advertise for the waste of 6 issues Venom/Hell bullshit.

I don't know about you guys but I pay 4 bucks for words AND pictures not just one or the other. I understand that in some issues it works like with a death or funeral type story but for a final issue. I want my two bucks back and I want this last issue scrubbed from memory. As far as I am concerned the last issue of this book was issue 20.

What a waste and what a terrible send off for a great character in her own book.

'X-Treme X-Men' by Greg Pak & Stephen Segovia Announced [WonderCon]
As promised in a teaser image and press release from earlier this week, Marvel Comics announced today at WonderCon's "Talk to the Hat" panel the coming of X-Treme X-Men, a new ongoing series written by Greg Pak and drawn by Stephen Segovia. The book stars James Howlett, Emmeline Frost and Kid Nightcrawler -- the alternate versions of Wolverine and Nightcrawler seen in Pak's recent work in Astonishing X-Men -- as they "gather their forces to save all universes from the greatest threat [they've] ever faced." Details remain few, but we do know of one mutant who will join the ranks of this new team: Dazzler.

X-Treme X-Men #1 goes on sale in July. You can check out the full cover after the cut.

WC12 EXCLUSIVE: Wood Empowers Mutants in "X-Men" & "Ultimate Comics X-Men" (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=37634)

I know I dropped Spencer's Ultimate X-Men pretty early, but the way Brian Wood talks about it here sounds like Marvel absolutely hated what he was doing. Now they are streamlining the book to fit with two other Ultimate books, including Spider-Man? WTF? Can't you just let a creator...CREATE? I didn't expect Wood to follow up on Spencer's plots but I did expect them to let Wood make his own. Which is exactly what they are doing with him and Victor's (ridiculous) plots on adjectiveless. So why not do it on both sides?

"My job, as it was given to me and also as per my own instincts, is to re-focus the book and re-establish the core cast and get it in line with what's happening in the "Ultimates" and "Ultimate Spider-Man." The Ultimate universe is tight, we're all working really closely together to make sure our plots line up and reflect each other and adhere to a common timeline."

That does not sound interesting at all.

Honestly it sounds better than the few issues of Spencer's run I read. Speaking of Spencer with him off Ult. X-Men he has no Marvel work on the horizon, with him being an exclusive I wonder where he'll end up.

You think after Ultimate X-Men and Iron Man 2.0 they'll finally find a book he can actually make work? I suspect it may be a while before we see Spencer's name on an book for the long haul. Maybe a miniseries but nothing major. He'll be doing the Image thing for a bit. He's still doing Thieves, Glories, Vacation and the upcoming Bedlam so I think he can afford the break.

It hasn't. Several months ago, there was an ad for "Sabretooth Reborn" with the year 2012 given, but no details. This was when the whole "Back in Japan" thing started in the main Wolverine series. A Yakuza who sees Sabretooth even asks, "Sabretooth? Isn't he supposed to be in Oregon?" (or somewhere, I forget) and his buddy says, "I heard he was dead."

It makes zero sense, considering his was decapitated with the Muramasa Blade (which negates healing factors) on Earth and then decapitated again with the Soul Sword (which is impossible to heal from) in Hell. The explanation for bringing him back will be filled with more bullshit than the "time bullets" they used with Captain America.

I agree, the explanation for bringing Sabretooth back will be complete B.S. I just looked up the writer on the Sabretooth Reborn series and it will be Jeph Loeb. He wrote the death of Sabretooth story line a few years back. I wonder how he's going to pull this off.

Oh fuck, that series is going to suck huge gorilla balls. Loeb can't write for shit anymore.

Wait, is the artist Simone Bianchi, as it was for Wolverine: Evolution, where they killed Sabretooth the first time? Marvel has a poster of her Wolverine/Sabretooth where it's a close-up of their faces that they've recently been advertising.

A Yakuza who sees Sabretooth even asks, "Sabretooth? Isn't he supposed to be in Oregon?" (or somewhere, I forget) and his buddy says, "I heard he was dead."

My guess is the Hand brought him back to life, since he was working for them. I'm thinking they brought Mystique back to life as well.

Loeb revealed that this summer, he and Simone Bianchi will return to a story they started over five years ago to tell "Sabertooth Reborn" in the pages of "Wolverine." Loeb promised to resolve all the story threads from Sabertooth's death, the mysteries behind Romulus and feature guest stars including Cloak and Dagger. The arc kicks off in July.

Man I feel sorry for Cullen Bunn. He get's to write one of Marvel's top characters only to be replaced by a guy sucks at writing Wolverine. Why not just give it a damn mini series.

I wouldn't feel too bad for the guy. He DID co-write The Fearless and I have a feeling that the powers that be at Mavel will be putting him on a big title sooner or later even if he is only getting to write Wolverine for one arc. At least I hope they do, The Sixth Gun is one of my favorite indie titles right now.

Simone Bianchi is a dude btw.

Bianchi had me fooled, then. Still an amazing artist.

I'm probably going to hate Loeb's "resolutions and revelations," but at least the art will be goddamn amazing.

...And I now remember I'm still missing a couple issues from the Evolution arc.

If so, then no, but I flipped through it. Was there something in it that I simply must experience?

I think I'll pick up the Gambit series. I like Clay's art and I've always wanted to really get into Gambit to know if he's as cool as the 90s portrayed him.

Adams & Gage Bring "The First X-Men" To Comics (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=38666)
This week, Marvel Comics teased "The First X-Men," a new project premiering in August. In a special press conference call, the publisher pulled out all the stops to explain what "The First X-Men" is, whom it involves and how it will affect the X-books and greater Marvel Universe. On hand for the call (moderated by Sales and Communications Coordinator James Viscardi) were legendary comic creator Neal Adams, writer Christos Gage and X-book editor Nick Lowe, who were set to tease the broad aspects of "The First X-Men."
http://www.comicbookresources.com/assets/images/articles/1337029289.jpghttp://www.comicbookresources.com/assets/images/articles/1337029291.jpg
Covers for "The First X-Men" #1 by Neal Adams, hitting stores in August
Viscardi kicked off the call by introducing the participants and opened it up for the creators to tell the origins of "The First X-Men" as a series.

"I had these wonderful warm memories of Jack Kirby's 'X-Men,'" said Adams, who mentioned he had been on the book two issues before it had been cancelled. "At the beginning, Stan and Jack were just experimenting with things. Right at the very first issue, you have Professor X who is bald and in a wheelchair and these kids standing around them in costume and they are going to become the X-Men." Adams noted it seemed like readers were starting in the middle of the story rather than the beginning.

"Something must have happened before Professor X became Professor X," Adams said. "He could pass. He didn't look like a strange X-Man. He didn't look like a mutant."

Adams posited the concept was that Professor X wasn't the person who started protecting young mutants. "Maybe this was going on when Professor X was a teenager and mutants were being abused by the government … and somebody stepped out to protect these kids. … Who would he be and why would he go to Charles Xavier? … That became my premise."

Lowe described the premise as "something X-Men fans would go nuts for," mentioning Adams had worked with the character of Wolverine before.

Adams described the series as "maybe groundbreaking." "It's the X-Men before the X-Men," he said, going on to say they were "maybe a disaster."

The artist also mentioned the involvement of Wolverine in the X-Men and why he keeps coming back. "How deeply entrenched is Wolverine to the X-Men? I think very, very deeply."

Gage expounded on how he got the job as writer on "The First X-Men" and characterized working with Adams as "a rewarding experience." "You see why Neil is such an industry legend. … He came up with these amazing new characters, one of whom I swear is going to be the next MODOK. … It's just been wonderful for me."

"Basically it takes place before the original X-Men and it's a time when mutants are coming [out in the country]," said Gage. "In this context, Wolverine is noticing this going on and says, 'Someone needs to protect these people.'" Wolverine allies with Sabertooth and approach a young Professor X, who is engaged to be married and "wants no part of it." The writer also characterized the book as "The Magnificent Seven," but with X-Men. There will also be some of Magneto killing Nazis.

"One of the things that attracted me to jump at this project is that in those early X-Men, everyone hates and fears mutants, but nobody really knows why," said Lowe. "That's one of the coolest things this series does. It gives a palpable reason that is core to some of the biggest X-characters there are: why mutants are hated and feared and why it's so different from other superheroes when they [start to appear]."

After a brief, joking conversation about Adams' "manly, hairy chest," Gage spoke a bit about the collaborative process. "For me, it's a process that has hopefully brought out the best in everybody."

Gage also mentioned a villain named "Virus," and said he was actually adjusting his writing while seeing the pages from Adams.

"It's a very good back and forth that's going on here," said Adams.

The creative team also spoke about the non-similarity to the film "X-Men: First Class." "I would say it doesn't," said Adams That would be the natural instinct, but it's nothing like it."

"The one common thread is Nazi hunter Magneto," said Gage.

"And that's from the comics," said Adams, going on to mention the initial encounter between Wolverine and Professor X. "Wolverine certainly has ample evidence in his arms as to why they need Charles Xavier."

Adams made an entertaining comparision for the creative process. "Being involved in the creative process is like going to the bathroom. You do it today so you can do it tomorrow," said Adams. Adams noted there is an African-American character called "Bomb" who was met by Wolverine and company.

"If you examine my old stuff, what you'll see is that each project that I do is different from the last project," said Adams. "It fits, in my view, in the empty space that Marvel left that I was able to fill." The artist also spoke about his experience on "Batman," saying it was being done like a novel, but "The First X-Men" would be a "high adventure comic book."

"If you look at the parameters of what we're saying here, the relationship doesn't even exist between this and 'Batman: Odyssey.'"

Lowe mentioned "The First X-Men" is canon and "key to Wolverine's history" and would "answer questions that have been begging for answers for decades."

The team will encounter hobo Sub-Mariner and FBI Agent Fred Duncan from "X-Men" #2. The series will stand on its own two feet, but will have throw-outs and flavor relevant to other Marvel books.

Lowe spoke about the possibility of a crossover between Howard Chaykin's "Avengers 1959," which is not currently in the works. "Definitely at some point, there could be something that ties it all in at the future," said Gage. "I would love the idea of the crossover."

Lowe spoke about choosing to move into pre-Stan Lee and Jack Kirby territory and that "The First X-Men" was "too good not to do." "For us, it always comes down to the story," said Lowe. "SHIELD is something that I've been working on that I promise is coming to an end soon. It all depends on the story. I can't tell you how many pitches we get for that stuff that doesn't see the light of day. It's a story like 'First X-Men' [that make us want to do it.]"

The series will be five issues. "We wish it were longer," said Adams.

"There's a lot of story in this. One of the things I love about working with Neil is that this is a man who can pull off the 8-panel page."

"I prefer not to, Christos!" said Adams to laughter.

Adams also spoke about his design for Havok and how his desire for functional costumes influenced some of the "First X-Men" character design. "He had this black costume that absorbed light," said Adams. "You can understand that's the kind of costume I like to design. So I'm going to give you characters with costumes or non-costumes that become costumes because they're different ideas. It's not skin-tight clothes, it's different ideas. One of the reasons Havok was good is because his costume did what it was supposed to do for his powers."

In terms of setting, Adams said the goal was to give a "general sense" of what time period the story occurs, rather than a specific time period.

Adams also mentioned the difficulty of doing team books. "Let me tell you from an artistic and writing point of view, it's very, very hard to do a group book," said Adams, noting we may have just had a movie that did it.

The artist noted his support of motion comics. "I don't think motion comics are ever going to go away," he said. "There's a lot of creativity to be done. I like the idea of the comic being done first. You do the comic, you turn them into motion comics -- and we're getting closer and closer to animation."

Lowe spoke about the connection between a fledgling Wolverine training mutants compared to the Wolverine today who is headmaster of the Jean Grey School. "This is a soldier looking at a problem and looking at how to solve it," said Lowe. "All of us have beliefs, we try to live our dreams and serve our beliefs … this is one of Wolverine's first steps in working with mutants and trying to find out what their place is in the world. … It's the same character and it's all connected. You're going to see a lot of juxtapositions and compare and contrast notes with 'Wolverine & the X-Men.'"

Adams hinted that Wolverine may have even more secrets in his past, mentioning that "mercenaries make a lot of money" and Wolverine may have invested in something mysterious.

"There's implications here that you will draw as readers that we won't even touch," said Adams. "When I said Charles Xavier could pass, … at some point in his life -- and imagine the exploration of this in other stories -- he has to make that choice not only as Charles Xavier as the X-Men but admit he was a mutant."

Gage teased that the woman in the Adams cover art is a new character. "What's interesting is, she's not necessarily what you would think from the image there. It's part and parcel of who she is as a character."

The call wrapped up with a discussion about Hobo Namor. "At some point after World War II and before the Human Torch got his memory back, Namor was wandering around the streets of Manhattan," said Gage. "You'll see how, but somehow word gets out there's this super-strong guy in New York … and they end up punching the hell out of each other."

"It's a wonderful incident in the middle of it," said Adams, "and I have to credit Nick and Christos for it."

Cullen Bunn Kills the Marvel Universe (With Deadpool) (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=38653)
The old showbiz adage, "Dying is easy, comedy is hard" certainly doesn't apply to Marvel Comics' Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool. With a healing factor that allows him to recover from almost any injury and makes him nearly impossible to kill and an unstoppable tendency to run his mouth and entertain readers with all sorts of bizarre and comical anecdotes, jokes and insults, the inverse would actually be more accurate.

A highly-trained soldier for hire, Wade Wilson's chosen profession and penchant for chattiness has earned him the nickname "The Merc with a Mouth." But while Deadpool often has to kill people, it's not something he enjoys or relishes; it's just an unavoidable part of his job.

But what would happen if Deadpool was a bloodthirsty killer, and what would the Marvel Universe look like if he cut a bloody swath through it? This summer, writer Cullen Bunn and artist Dalibor Talajic will answer those questions and more in "Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe," a four-issue miniseries that will be published weekly throughout the month of August. We spoke with Bunn and his editor Jordan D. White about the project, which examines what would happen if Deadpool were a vicious serial killer stalking the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe.

CBR News: Deadpool is about to join Fred Hembeck and the Punisher as a member of a very exclusive club; people who have laid waste to the Marvel Universe! Where did the idea for this project come from?

Jordan D. White: The idea came down from on high as nothing but a title. Clearly inspired by the terrific Punisher one-shot of the same name, I was charged with conjuring up a miniseries called "Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe." I really love editing the Deadpool books -- he's been a favorite character of mine for quite a while -- and as soon as I heard the title, I knew it was an opportunity to do something special, something you can't do in the main book. Deadpool is a really funny character, and his books are always comedic -- but this would give us the chance to take the humor to a much darker place. I'm thankful that as soon as I said that to Cullen, he knew exactly what I meant and came back with ideas that fit it perfectly.

Cullen Bunn: As soon as Jordan mentioned this project to me, I knew this would be my chance to present a version of Deadpool unlike anything fans have seen before. He's still Deadpool. He's still funny. But he's being seen through a dark, unsettling filter.

White: In many ways, it's about giving the fans what they want. It's called "Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe" and we absolutely deliver on the promise of that title. If you think that idea sounds interesting or intriguing at all, this series is made expressly for you.

Bunn: Yeah, I don't think there's any subterfuge in the title. This is Deadpool murdering the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe we know and love. On another level, though, it's kind of a tragic story about being the puppet of greater forces -- and how far one might go to be free of all that.

EXCLUSIVE: Kaare Andrews' cover for issue 1
Deadpool's motivation is often "cherchez la femme" or "Look for the Women." We know Deadpool is in love with the Marvel U's personification of Death. Is this his way of getting her attention?

White: Nah -- we kept clear of the typical Deadpool tropes, for the most part, in order to see him in a new light. Cullen came up with a great way to set him off on his spree.

Bunn: His motivations aren't connected to many of the story elements you might have seen in other books. This kind of tale gives us the chance to do some things we couldn't even think about in the core Deadpool book. But I wanted a catalyst for Deadpool's killing spree that could happen in the main book.

At the beginning of this story, we're dealing with "our" Deadpool. His perceptions have always been a little off-center, but now his world view is crashing down around him. When the switch gets flipped (so to speak), Deadpool takes a very dark turn. From that point, he's got a very specific goal in mind, and he's not going to stop for anything or anyone.

Deadpool regularly dishes out violence and carnage, but not in an evil or malicious fashion. Does that change in "Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe?" Will it be harder to look at what Wade Wilson does and chuckle?

Bunn: I think Deadpool probably sees himself as the hero in this story, but he's not. After the first few pages of the book, I don't think anyone will see him as a good guy.

White: One of the things I was most keen on was the idea that we take all the recognizable trademarks of Deadpool that people think are cute/eccentric/charming and make them disturbing. That we take a character people dismiss as a goof and show that as sort of a cover for the fact that he is dangerous and sort of frightening.

Bunn: There is a character that plays the role of the "hero" in that he's trying to stop Deadpool. He's a character who has some history with Deadpool. He's not a nice guy, either, but even he is shocked by the carnage Deadpool is wreaking.

How high up the Marvel Universe food chain will Deadpool's bloody crusade go? And Cullen, What's it like pitting Deadpool against everybody? How big of an asset is his insane cunning and penchant for Rube Goldberg-esque plans in this story?

White: He just kills one dude. Just Stilt Man.

Bunn: Well, there goes my pitch for a follow-up: "Stilt Man Stomps the Marvel Universe."

White: That counts as the entire Marvel Universe, right? No -- he takes it as far as you possibly can. Further, actually.

Bunn: Much further! I think folks will dig seeing just how high up the food chain Deadpool slices and dices. In some cases, he keeps the kills pretty simple. But for some of the heavy hitters, he has to get creative. The thing about Deadpool (especially this Deadpool) is that he sees things differently. It helps make him a more effective killer. He relies on everything from straight forward gun and swordplay to elaborate "Saw"-like deathtraps.

And no one is safe. No one.

It was an absolute thrill being able to work with all these different characters, wiping out my favorites in these terrible ways. Are there some match-ups I was really excited to write? Absolutely! What surprised me was the emotional reaction I had to some of the deaths. It was important to me that these are the characters I would never want to see die -- but Deadpool's gonna butcher them anyway -- and he's gonna have fun doing it.

EXCLUSIVE: Kaare Andrews' cover for issue 2
What can you tell us about the supporting cast for this story? Will we see any Deadpool-related characters or friends like Bob, Agent of HYDRA or Cable?

White: Like I said, for the most part, we kept clear of the typical Deadpool folks -- but you can rest assured that HYDRA Bob, Blind Al and Weasel are all killed in horrible, unspeakable ways -- just off panel. Maybe if fans send in their ideas for how Deadpool should take them out, I can run the best ones in the letters page.

Bunn: Yeah, because of the book's scope, it's tough to give everyone panel-time. I opted to focus more on the big picture Marvel Universe characters. But I love the idea of fans sending in their ideas for how established Deadpool characters might die, except Dogpool. None of you sick freaks should even think about killing Dogpool.

Jordan, you've got a writer who is very adept at writing horror characters and stories and a situation that sounds pretty horrific. So is "Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe" a horror comic?

White: Hell yes, it is! I'm a big horror movie fan, and have only just recently finished re-watching all the "Friday the 13th" and "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies, and am now jumping back into the "Halloween" series. When you think about it, isn't Wade Wilson right at home in the lineup of Jason Voorhees, Freddy Kruger and Michael Myers? He's sort of Freddy's corny jokes and speed in Jason's ever-healing body, am I right?

Bunn: Exactly! When I pitched my version of Deadpool for this story, I said he was Freddy-meets-Jason-meets-Jigsaw -- if those guys had ninja-like assassination skills. This is a dark story, but it's the kind of horror story that'll make you laugh uncomfortably at all the blood, violence and menace. I know that deep down you are a sick, sick person, and this story is for you!

Artist Dalibor Talajic, who's drawn Deadpool many times, is bringing this scenario to life. What it's like though seeing him work on a tale like this, one that casts Deadpool in such a different light?

White: Dalibor totally rose to the challenge of making this book feel different from his previous work on the character. He, too, was immediately on board for the tone of the book and knew just what we were going for. I think that's part of what makes this series so great -- everyone was on the same page: writer, artist, editor, cover artist (Kaare Andrews). We all got it, immediately.

Bunn: I love Dalibor's work, so I was really excited when I heard he'd be drawing the book. I was doubly excited when I realized he was completely on-board with the concept. He brought a lot of energy to the pages, and he made some great suggestions that helped improve the book as a whole. There's a sequence toward the end of the book that we discussed back and forth that really brought something awesome to the book. I enjoy working with an artist who wants to collaborate and talk about the story and build on the scripts. I feel like we've worked really well together.

Finally, the announcement of "Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe" is bound to result a variety of reactions. I imagine some Marvel fans will be excited and others a bit more unsure about the series. Do you have anything you'd like to say to the skeptics?

Bunn: I'd say the skeptics can take their preconceived notions and stick them right where --

Ahem. Sorry. Let me start over.

I think this story is gonna surprise people. Deadpool fans are gonna love seeing their boy cutting loose on the other heroes. Readers who like their killers to be a little edgier and vicious, you'll get your wish, too.

White: If you're a Deadpool fan, you're going to see Wade in a new light, and get to see him doing things we'd never dare allow normally. If you're the type of reader who's always dismissed Deadpool as just a goof, take a look. I think you'll be surprised at how sinister we get. And if you're a horror movie fan, like me, you gotta give it a try. Where else are you going to see the heartless slaughter of people who only want to make the world a better place?

This comic is going to be vicious. It's a dark and wicked comic, both in the sense of gleeful evil and in the Boston sense. Because you demanded it, Deadpool is going to kill every one of your idols! Aren't you intrigued?

Bunn: This is a story that's gonna be mean and cruel and funny and tragic, all at the same time. Four issues over the course of a month. You don't even have to wait that long to satisfy your bloodlust.

And I just want to reiterate: No one is safe.

So apparently an X-Force omnibus is coming and it's getting recolored much the same way the Simonson Thor omnibus was, so you can see all that great Liefeld art in a whole new way:

oh i'm sure this won't come back to bite them on the a$$ (ie )

sidenote: if i still read X-Men i'd give a f@ck on this but i don't so i don't

That really isn't much of a spoiler, people have been predicting this for months. And how is this going to come back to bite them in the ass? I don't see how this is a bad idea, but then again I don't really know anything about the characters outside of the occasional cameo.

I'm definitely going to get Gambit. Clay Man is the Francis Manapul of Marvel.

Too bad James Asmus is terrible...well not terrible but not very impressive either.

Why must you bring Francis Manupaul down to that level? Clay Mann is good and all, but Francis is on another level.

Oh, I'm sure it won't, either. On the contrary, it seems to be a race between DC and Marvel to see who can successfully exploit homosexuality first and get all the good press- Marvel for throwing a gay wedding, or DC for turning one of it's "iconic" characters gay.

According to Bleeding Cool (http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/05/27/iron-man-from-gillen-and-land-to-follow-avengers-vs-x-men/) Gillen/Land will be leaving UXM to take over Iron Man post AvX, which I suppose would open the book up for Bendis if those other rumors are true.

Oh come on, it's not like Bendis is a terrible writer a la Liefeld, his work on stuff like Alias, Daredevil, and Ultimate Spider-Man is all top tier stuff, hell his Daredevil run is arguably one of the best things written in the past decade. Even his Avengers had some good/great arcs and it's really doubtful that the franchise would be as big as it is without him. If he lands on UXM, could it be terrible? Sure, but it could also end up being great.

To Bendis, His X-Artists? (http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/06/16/to-bendis-his-x-artists/)
From one of the same sources that named certain Marvel switcheroo creators, later confirmed by another source, comes the news of exactly who may be drawing Brian Bendis’ books.

Based on past performance, I’d give this an amber light with just a hint of green.

New Avengers and Secret Invasion artist Leinil Yu and Avengers artist Brandon Peterson has been named on Uncanny X-Men – though of course Peterson has just been announced on DC’s Phantom Stranger (oops, that’s Brent Anderson) and Yu seems rather busy on Supercrooks. There may be wiggle time of course and I am not au fait with their schedules.

Then Mike Deodato, Bendis’ creative partner on many an Avengers comic, has been named working on Bendis’ other X-Men comic which will have a more cosmic flair, part of Bendis’ cosmic relaunch of the Marvel Universe… emphasis on the word “universe” there.

And finally, after their work recently on Avengers, Walt Simonson and Brian Bendis have a new project in the works… what are the odds it will be a little cosmic in nature too?

But do remember, as ever, this could all be bunkum…

W.West
06-16-2012, 08:35 PM
Oh Bleeding Cool, you're already doing a rumor report, stop trying to save your ass in case you're wrong.

I'd like to see Yu on X-Men but it'll be the story that gets me to pick up either of those titles not the artist. Unless it was Andy Kubert or Ryan Sook.

I got a theory here, since the Phoenix has taken control over Colossus, shouldn`t Cytorak feel it`s presence somehow? maybe he wants a new champion again, maybe good old Cain Marko?
Basically just a rehash of the X-men tie in to fear itself but heck it`s Marvel, if they can do Dark Avengers 3 times they can do anything.
Plus i want Marko back, whatever happened to him?
