You really think a shot to the head is gonna stop Apocalypse??? Child or not you short change the man. Not to mention he could still come back as a he took over Stryfe's body at the end of Messiah War.

He's gone for now, I guess would be a better way to phrase it. Bringing back apocalyspe should be a incredible difficult task. So I think Apocalypse is gone for now.

You might. You really couldnt call it much of a return as it was only his horseman who did all the work and you only saw Apoc during flashbacks. In X-Force he technically almost came back.

Apocalypse will be back in some form or another. Look at Onslaught. However, I really liked how the recent incarnation of Apoc was dealt with; bullet to the brain.

Wolverine Takes on the Marvel Universe (All of It) in June (http://www.newsarama.com/comics/marvel-universe-vs-wolverine-110311.html)

Last year's Marvel Universe vs. Punisher miniseries by writer Jonathan Maberry and artist Goran Parlov is getting a spiritual successor in the form of Marvel Universe Vs. Wolverine, starting in June and with a similar premise — Marvel's heroes have been transformed into less than friendly forms, and it's up to Logan to take them down. The series is four issues, with Maberry writing and Punisher MAX artist Laurence Campbell on art.

Age of X has nothing to do with AoA

AoA is a alternate universe, and I don't think they have meet the regular X-Men.

What’s Behind The Upcoming X-Men Schism?
Bleeding Cool was the first to bring you word that the upcoming X-Men event would centre around a split in the X-Men. Principally between Wolverine and Cyclops, with all the X-mutants aligning to one camp or another.

Marve’s recent tease, and the naming of the event “Schism” seemed to confirm this, a Cyclops visor carved into four slices. presumably by three adamantium claws.

Well, at the X-Men panel at C2E2 you may expect to learn that the split will be as a result of Scott Summers continuing to want to unite all mutants separately from the human population. He started doing this on the Utopia island, but this will be a, for want of a better word, permanent solution.

Logan will finally kick off against this, insisting that mutants should integrate into the rest of humanity. And will lead the X-Men team that leaves to promote just that.

This is reminiscent of the Xavier/Magneto split but directly reflects the age old problem of population management. Do you isolate or integrate? At extremes you have South Africa and Israel. But even in the melting pots of New York and to a lesser extent London, you have ghettos andareas of ethnic concentration, poth physically and mentally as cultures split and segregate.

And that’s where X-Men is headed. Which side are you on? Reading Generation Hope earlier today, I know which side Hope is on…

Picked up X-23 since it crosses over with Daken...Boring issue. Daken #7 was supposed to be the prologue but this issue read like one. Just not very interesting. Even the fight with Daken was uninspired. After depicting Daken as a calm cool and collected guy for (at least) the last 10 issues of his own series, Liu says "Fuck that" and now the mere sight of Laura's claws make him as hostile as a hungry lion? WEAK SHIT. I get that he would be upset, but you can't just switch personalities from book to book, especially when you're writing/plotting them both. Be consistent.

That being said, I'm still super excited for Part Two. Even though this contrived plot(at least for the Daken series) isn't interesting whatsoever, and Part One was as previously mentioned, WEAK SHIT, the preview pages (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=31051) featuring the new Punisher artist's work on Daken just look amazing.

I could've sworn Laura and Daken had met before...in fact I distinctly remember a scene from the Utopia crossover where they fought each other.

Anyways Wolverine was a good read. I understand some people were turned off by the first arc, but this one is great. Demon possessed Wolverine vs. Cyclops, Namor, Magneto, and Emma...what's not to love? Plus Jubilee, Rogue, Kitty, and Storm all drawn by Acuna! If you're a Nightcrawler or Jean Grey fan you might as well pick it up, since you probably won't be seeing those characters anywhere else anytime soon.

WC11: Welcome To The X-Men
With more characters and more soap operatics than any other property in their pantheon, Marvel Comics' X-Men line is jam-packed with comics and fans who have strong opinions on said comics. So for their "Welcome To The X-Men" panel at WonderCon 2011 in San Francisco, the publisher looked to engender some local love with an X-Men variant cover draping the heroes in the colors of hometown heroes the San Francisco Giants. Although more than just opening day fever was expected at the event Saturday afternoon, and CBR News was on hand for all the action.

Marvel staffers including Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso took the stage, as Marvel Talent Coordiantor C.B.Cebulski welcomed the room by declaring the panel one that was slightly hungover but excited to be in San Fran for a fourth year straight of X-Men news. "Wolverine" writer Jason Aaron and "Uncanny X-Force" writer Rick Remender rounded out the group.

Cebulksi ran through a series of slides showing covers for the upcoming X-Men comics including "X-Men First To Last," "New Mutants" and "X-Factor" with much of the information already being public knowledge. The panelists were able to speak to the particulars of their own books. "'What is Archangel?' is the question, and why did Apocalypse put him in Warren Worthington?" Remender said about the incoming arc of of "X-Force" which he said will expand the Apocalypse mythology in terms of the winged character leading to more stories later in the year. "We're going to end up in the Age of Apocalypse [world] as the team tracks something down that's important for [Warren.]"

Aaron spoke "One of the first Wolverine things I did was 'Get Mystique'...and this is pretty much a sequel to that with a huge turning point in the Wolverine/Mystique relationship," said Aaron, promising that after this story fans can expect more stabbing in the book.

The full details of the main book in the "X-Men: Schism" event were then announced – written by Aaron with art over the five issues by Carlos Pacheco, Frank Cho, Adam Kubert, Alan Davis and Daniel Acuña. "Scott Summers coming into his role as leader of the X-Men, and Wolverine as his first officer..when 'Schism' opens, we see these guys as Butch and Sundance, as close as they've been in their long history together. Then something happens...giant robots are involved...and there's a lot of hugging," Aaron said, with the final comment being a gag.

"We've been building to this for years now. Scott has carried a huge burden bringing the mutant race back from the brink of extinction, and there's a huge price to pay for that," said Alonso saying the story would be built upon the increasing militarization of the team over the past several years of stories.

The panel then announced a one-shot called "Wolverine: The Fifth Quarter" written by Food Network star and San Fran native Chef Chris Cosentino and drawn by Tim Seeley. The book will take place in the city with the writer saying, "This will be very food-centric and very much about San Francisco...it's an honor to me being able to actually write a comic book. I loved Wolverine as a kid and would just sit there staring at my hands."

The floor opened to fan questions then with a man wondering if a new X-Men animated series was in the works. Cebulski said there were plans, but more info would be coming at the Marvel Animation panel later in the weekend.

Shifting gears, one reader asked if original Venom Eddie Brock would appear in Remender's "Venom" comic, to which the writer replied. "Yes, there's a lot of connectivity between 'Venom' and upcoming Spider-Man stories...the way that we find Eddie will be surprising."

Some questions about specific characters hit including Bobby Drake and Gambit. "You will most definitely see Iceman in a significant role in the X-Universe in the near future," Aaron said, adding that the plans for the character will explore his past. Remender and Aaron have spent a lot of time talking about the character and how to incorporate him into the line. Cebulski said that Gambit will appear in "X-Men Legacy" as well as Marjorie Liu's "X-23" series.

Local concerns came up with a reader requesting more of San Francisco in the X-Men books since the team is now located in the city. "I want to see my house on panel," he joked with Alonso promising him that he's constantly bugging Nick Lowe to incorporate more of the locales of his hometown into the books.

The characters involved with "Schism" were asked after. "Hope and the Five Lights are a big part of ['Schism'] as well as may of the other students," Aaron said, though the panel confirmed that Jean Grey would not return in the books, though Phoenix fans could see an alternate Jean in the "Age of Apocalypse" arc of "Uncanny X-Force."

"The running theme through all of these characters is that they're damaged...so what they do, they do so their friends don't have to. But there are some membership changes coming up you should look out for," Remender said about the makeup of "Uncanny X-Force."

Alonso spoke to his frequent discussion point of the desire for fans to have stories that count. He said that over the past few years, they've grown the X-Men line more into one major epic that has big twists and turns every few years. "Back when we were planning 'Messiah CompleX,' we kind of sort of saw 'Schism' coming," he explained, noting that characters including Hope, Cable and Bishop will continue to see their interpersonal storylines reverberate throughout the whole X-Men line.

A fan dressed as the villain Stryfe came up asking about Cable's arm that survived the final battle of "Second Coming" and wondering if it portended a return of the character. "Yeah, there's an arm...but we don't bring back characters that much," laughed Alonso, giving a special shout out to a fan dressed as Nightcrawler.

A discussion broke out about how editorial went about bringing back certain characters including the Exiles cast. Cebulski said that there are characters with their fan at Marvel, however the company was loath to just release books with characters fans want if they haven't found a writer with a compelling pitch to make the book work for a broad audience. "Runaways" is a classic example of this, he said.

"The fact of the matter is that the X-Men have had to put their own house in order...struggling for the survival of their species while waiting for this Messiah child to appear," Alonso said, noting that with the "X-Men" monthly was an "exploratory jab" to the fans to see how an X-Men universe working closer to the Marvel U would go over. "We want the X-Men Universe and the Marvel Universe to overlap, and we've wanted that for a while...'Schism' is a first step [in that direction]," the E-i-C later explained.

WC11: Aaron Divides the X-Men in "Schism"
Most Marvel Universe super teams have one underlying goal: to protect people from the various evils their world has to offer. For the X-Men, it's never been that simple. From the team's inception, the heroic mutants faced both super villains and a public that hates and fears them. Those concerns continued over the years, but things got much more complicated for the X-Men five years ago in the aftermath of the "House of M" storyline when mentally ill heroine the Scarlet Witch used her reality altering powers to reduce the global mutant population to approximately 200.

Suddenly the X-Men were faced with a new concern: survival. Mutants were now an endangered species, which emboldened the forces of hatred to try and wipe them out for good. This meant that the fight against evil was now a gray-shaded struggle as X-Men leader Cyclops formed a secret team of assassins to eliminate anti-mutant terrorist groups. Community building also became a concern as the X-Men moved to a new home, the manmade island Utopia, which they turned into a mutant sanctuary.

Things will become even more complex this summer when two of the most prominent X-Men find themselves at odds over how to handle their new circumstances. Announced earlier today at Wondercon, "X-Men: Schism" chronicles that conflict in the form of a five-issue miniseries by writer Jason Aaron and an all-star team of artists starting in July. CBR News spoke with Aaron about the series, which will shatter the bonds that hold the X-Men together.

Aaron is no stranger to the X-Universe, but "X-Men:Schism" is his first taste of a big X-Men event. "I've been in the X-Office for a while now doing Wolverine stuff. I've gotten to write some of these characters before and in the current 'Wolverine' arc, 'Wolverine Versus the X-Men,' I'm getting to write a lot more of them," Aaron told CBR News. "This is the first time, though, where I've really tackled a huge group of characters like this. I get to write all of the main X-Men. It's been a blast so far."

Several upcoming X-Men stories will set the stage for "Schism," but Aaron wants to make sure that the series is as accessible as it is important. "It's a continuation of a lot of things that have been going on in the X-Men Universe for a while now. After 'House of M' this is going to be the next big step for the X-Verse," the writer remarked. "There will be threads from a lot of the X-Books, but I also think it will be a book that you can pick up and understand the big events that unfold, and the reasons why they unfold are right there in the book."

The conflict of "Schism" is set in motion with the surprise return of a character to the pages of the X-Universe. "Things kick into gear with the return of a character from Grant Morrison's 'New X-Men' run. This is one of my favorite characters from that run, and I'm a big fan of that run in general," Aaron explained. "That character's return sparks a worldwide resurgence of mutant fear and hatred. You'll see more Sentinels in an X-book than you've seen in quite a while."

When this crisis erupts, Cyclops is forced to develop a plan to deal with it, and his plan causes Wolverine, one of his most capable lieutenants, much concern. "At its core, 'Schism' is a story about Cyclops and Wolverine. There's a lot of other characters and elements swirling around them, but at the end of the day it really comes down to these two men and how they differ in a couple of fundamental ways," Aaron said. "Cyclops is the X-Men's leader and Logan doesn't want to assume his position. It's not his natural instinct. This book isn't about Wolverine coming in and suddenly deciding to lead his own branch of the X-Men. This story is really about a falling out between Scott and Logan and what brings that about. They find themselves at a real crossroads in their relationship and the differences that come between them pushes each of them in a very different direction."

While Wolverine and Cyclops have been comrades on the X-Men for many years, Aaron doesn't believe the two ever had a friendly relationship. "They were never friends, but Logan has come to look at Scott as his general. He's come to respect him much more as a leader these last few years as Scott has taken control and taken mutants to places they've never been before," Aaron said. "Logan has always been the good soldier, sometimes maybe a little bit begrudgingly, but he's always been right by Scott's side and gone out of his way to do everything he could to bring about Scott's vision. Now they find themselves at an impasse, and for the first time Logan says no. He feels the train has gone off the tracks."

Wolverine's perspective will be part of "Schism," but so will Cyclops.' Aaron wants his story to be as morally complex for readers as it is for the X-Men. "This is not a story about painting anyone as a villain or about one side being right and the other side being wrong. In some sense this is 'Civil War' with the X-Men, but it's not a civil war where there's a mustache twirling villain. We're dealing with two guys who have very strong principles and very strong beliefs," Aaron stated. "They also have definite ideas about what the X-Men should be doing and how they should be doing it. They just find themselves at an impasse. So hopefully we've created a situation where both sides will make complete sense in one way or the other.

"It's funny, I've even felt divided writing this story. I can see the strengths and weaknesses in both Cyclops' and Wolverine's arguments," Aaron continued. "When we first started talking about this story at one of the X-retreats we realized that we just got hung up arguing one side against the other. We had people in the room divided. Some of us thought, 'Why would this happen? This seems to be the right way.' Others felt the opposite. I think that means we're onto something. If we can't even get all these people in the room to agree on which side is right and which side is wrong, hopefully readers will be torn as well. We're creating a sticky situation here. It's not a black and white."

Parts of "Schism" will unfold on a global stage, but the bulk of the action will occur right on Utopia and a number of X-Men will find themselves playing supporting roles in the conflict between Wolverine and Cyclops. "This is a story that will focus a lot on the kids of the X-Universe," Aaron remarked. "We'll see some of the newest mutants. The Five Lights from Generation Hope will play a large role."

The conflict in "Schism" will be brought to life by an all-star team of artists, each drawing different issue. #1 features art by Carlos Pacheco; Frank Cho is drawing #2; #3 will be brought to life by Daniel Acuna; Alan Davis provides art for issue #4; the fifth and final issue features art by Aaron's "Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine" collaborator, Adam Kubert. "We've got a murderer's row of talented artists," Aaron remarked. "We've got some guys who are new to the X-Universe and some who have done their fair share of Marvel projects this year. Just working with one of these artists would be great and I'm lucky enough to be working with several of them on one project!"

At its core, "Schism" examines the conflict between two veteran X-Men and the paths they believe in. Said conflict will ultimately change the way the Marvel Universe views the X-Men, and the way X-Men view themselves. "The events of 'Schism' will continue to play out in big way in the Marvel Universe going into next year. It will have a profound effect on the Marvel U going forward," Aaron explained. "Because of what happens in 'Schism,' the status quo and dynamics of the X-Men and mutantkind will change for the foreseeable future."

Stacy X To Return In X-Men: Vengeance
As prostitute depowered, repowered dead characters go, there’s pretty much Stacy-X. Created by Joe Casey and Tom Raney in Uncanny X-Men, then moving to New Warriors, she met her untimely demise in New Warriors #17 in an accident.

But, according to yesterday’s X-Men panel at Wondercon, she’ll be back, along with three other unidentified characters, in something called Vengeance
http://www.bleedingcool.com/wp-content/uploads//2011/04/vengeance2.jpg
Anyone catch the other figures?

UPDATE: Holocaust was another. The others are described as a flag wearing character and a small man in a black and white suit,

UXM 534.1 was a good read, I think I'm going to enjoy Gillen on this book a lot more than Gen Hope, which honestly is quite boring. Art was good too since Pacheo is the best artist we've seen on UXM in a while. Things I particularly liked about the issue:

1) Gillen touching on the whole Xorn/Magneto issue from Morrison's run.
2) Magneto's portrayal in general.
3) "Your arrogance sickens me, Beekeeper. Only Namor has the ability to make the earth move. And he reserves that privilege for one woman at a time."

I'm indifferent. Some panels look okay and others like awful. Don't like the Patrick Stewart look. Comics aren't movies....

Still, I hope those first couple of pages are actually wordless, like that one issue of Second Coming.

So far Gillen has brought his A-Game.

Okay:

1) Age of X ending, felt very BLEH! I don't know, the idea of a separate universe created by Legion, WHILE the OTHER X-books are continuing status quo.....EH!

2) Age of X: Universe - COMPLETELY STUPID. Good story, good art, but doesn't make sense when the actual universe only existed for 7 days. We just had 2 books about made up memories.

3) Uncanny X - HOLY $H!T. Did that really happen to Magneto. I did not see that coming. Not enjoying Dodson's art on this book (everyone looks like they are related to Barry Bonds post-steroids), but I really am enjoying the story.

4) X-23....loving her book.....so-so on Daken, but Collision just keeps twisting and turning the characters. I'm enjoying it.

I read the second to Prelude to Schism and I thought it was very deep story on Magneto's father, as it features him as a World War I hero of Germany to be later thought of as less than human with his Jewish heritage when the Nazi's take over. This deeply effected Magneto's views and beliefs.

The issue also focused on Magneto's admiration of Scott Summers.

Not any action in this book or clue of the pending doom to hit Utopia but I found it be worth the read.

Seeing as it's only a 5 issue mini I doubt this will happen.

I really enjoyed Uncanny this week. Gillen's few issue on the title have been a huge step up from Fraction's imo and seeing as I'm a fan of Kitty+Whedon's run in general this issue was a real treat. Dodson's art was great too and likewise is a huge step up from Land's stuff.

Aaron's Wolverine continues to be enjoyable as well. I know some people didn't like the opening arc due to the whole Wolverine finding himself aspect, but I encourage you to pick up the current storyline. Wolverine is out for revenge and it just makes for some great reading.

I just read Uncanny X-Men 537, and think the writers must not like Kitty Pryde. I mean, in Astonishing they nearly killed her off and recently she cannot unphase. And the final page of issue 537 is just... well...

Well............... It's not about hating but rather making life hell for the characters that are fan favorites like Kitty Pryde. Look at Daredevil and Spider-Man, it's a story choice. You can't have everything be sunshine and rainbows, but when it does become sunshine and rainbows the character has to have bad shit happen to them.

...Weird list.

Some writers get their entire run noted in the list, but the man who made the X-Men huge, doesn't?

Claremon't 17 year run should be #1.

And the AoA deserves to be in the top 10 at the least.

(for me personally, it's in the top 5)

Actually it's just a one shot. #540 starts the Fear Itself tie-in arc. But so far Gillen's Uncanny has blown his Gen. Hope work out of the water. He's only like 3 issues into his solo run so you could pick it up no problem.

Well, even though the Avengers and F4 showed up during Second Coming they couldn't do anything as they were outside the bubble.

Amid ‘Schism’ between Cyclops, Wolverine, Marvel ending ‘Uncanny X-Men’

Marvel’s Uncanny X-Men — long one of comics’ most tight-knit teams — is being torn apart by a schism between Cyclops and Wolverine to such a degree that something’s got to give.

And it’s the Uncanny X-Men who will do just that.

Marvel Comics is putting an end to the flagship title with issue No. 544 in October as the brutal effects of the upcoming “X-Men: Schism” mini-series rends the team apart.

“Well, as anyone who’s watched the movies will know, the traditional axis of the X-Men has been the polarity of Magneto and Xavier. Xavier basically believes in peaceful integration. Magneto doesn’t,” said Kieron Gillen, who has been writing “Uncanny X-Men” since 2010.

“In the last five years or so, the X-Men have been exploring a different angle. A catastrophe reduced the population to a couple of hundred mutants, and no new ones are being born,” he said. “This fledgling species was looking at extinction — and the militarized forces of prejudice moved in for the kill.”

Cyclops united the remaining Mutants, doing what neither Magneto nor Xavier, aka Professor X, was able to do.

“Everyone has basically gone along with Cyclops, no matter what reservations they had,” he added, but now, those reservations are reaching the breaking point, which is the focus of “Schism” and sounding the death knell of the Uncanny X-Men.

Marvel has likened the fracture, and its fallout, as world-changing as its “Civil War,” a 2006-2007 crossover that divided Marvel heroes in ways still being felt.

“The X-Men are getting torn apart from within. The events of ‘Schism’ do more damage to the X-Men than any villain has ever done,” said Nick Lowe, who has been editing X-Men books for Marvel for six years and “Uncanny X-Men” since 2006.

Lowe said the story shows Cyclops — a founding X-Man and part of the series since its debut in 1963 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby — and Wolverine, the ferocious fighter, seeing their relationship frayed beyond repair.

Jason Aaron, who is writing the five-issue mini-series, said the foundations for the X-Men’s end is the heart of “Schism,” but it’s something that has been developing over the course of years.

“It’s obvious that things are coming to a head between” them, Aaron said of the mini-series that will have issues 1 and 2 shipped to comic shops next month. The first issue is illustrated by Carlos Pacheco while the second issue will be drawn by Frank Cho. Daniel Acuna, Alan Davis and Adam Kubert provide the art for issues 3, 4 and 5.

“Whether you’re a long time X-Men fan or a new X-Men fan, you can pick out and understand the nature of this conflict and how it breaks apart the two lynchpin guys of the X-Men.”

The duo has a complex history and relationship with each other rooted far back in the simmering romantic tension between them and Jean Grey, Cyclops’ girlfriend who went from Marvel Girl to Phoenix to Dark Phoenix before sacrificing herself.

“That very personal conflict is going to ripple off and break apart the X-Men in a huge way,” Aaron said of the characters, whose names are Scott Summers and Logan. But as to how it happens, he’s not saying.

“As far as the nature of that conflict and what sparks it and how it happens, that’s still under wraps. That’s the whole crux of ‘Schism,’” Aaron said.

Gillen said the events of “Schism” makes ending the series a necessity.

“The X-Men has always been a book with ideology and ideas at its heart, and to be fair to them — to best present them — you have to be entirely true,” Gillen said. “And if the story we’re telling demands that you end the ‘Uncanny X-Men,’ you end the ‘Uncanny X-Men.’ No, it’s not taken lightly — but it’s taken if it’s necessary to do it.”

I don't think that they're renumbering it like they did Cap or Thor. Those were renumbered because of the new movies coming out. true true. But I don't think in this case we're going to get a new #1 for Uncanny in this case. I think it's more likely that we end up with two new books each depicting a side/faction coming out of Schism and then a year or so from now when both sides are united again we'll get Uncanny back.

Great article. Even though I'm looking forward to Schism, it's going to be upsetting to see an unrepairable rift between two of my favorite X-Men.

It's good to know that this will have lasting effects as the article notes this will probably last the next five years, unlike DC events that usually don't.

um is that a Sentinel from the HoM universe or am i just looking at it wrong?

It's been a while since I've read HoM so I can't help ya there but, the current storyline in Uncanny X-Force though is taking place in the AoA universe though.

For those of you who are fans of Morrison's New X-Men run, I found this post over at the CBR forums (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=371684), it's kinda mind blowing:

I'll present this to y'all in stages, so you can read along and keep up with my vast intellectual scoop.

1: Look at the 'nuff said' silent issue. In particular, look how Xavier kills Cassandra in the womb. He's not using his mutant powers - he's being coerced. His eyes flash blue as he uses his powers - something he's never been seen to do before.

2: In Riot at Xavier's, Sophie Cuckoo takes the 'Kick' drug and dismantles Quentin Quire. As she does so, her eyes flash in the same way as Xavier's did as he dismantled Cassandra.

3: Here Comes Tomorrow. The Stepford Cuckoos reveal that they are a Weapon Plus project. So the Stepford's powers were created by Sublime, who ran the project. He manipulated their powers into existence and creted them.

4: Earlier in the same storyline, there is a character who appears for one page, called 'KooKoo'. She is the Sixth Stepford Cuckoo Her appearance is in issue 153, page 7. Her dialogue on this page blows part the entirety of New X-Men. In reference to an attack by Sublime-controlled Nightcrawler clones, she says "its eyes... something came through its eyes... I remember"

She then goes further and says "he fell... he fell like that time... on his knees... that day they all fell on the stairs..."

She is referencing the day Xavier killed Cassandra in the womb. At the moment he killed his sister, using blue energy from his eyes, his pregnant mother fell down the stairs.

So what does this mean?
* It means that Cuckoo 6 was aware of Xavier killing Cassandra in the womb.
* It means that Sublime knows about Xavier and Cassandra.
* It means that Sublime was present at this moment, and pushed Charles into manifesting mutant powers.
* He created Xavier.

I will now take questions.

Marvel Readies the X-Men for a "Regenesis"
After announcing the end of its longest running title in "Uncanny X-Men" last week, Marvel Comics has unveiled plans for two new series to take its place. Resulting from the events in "X-Men: Schism," the publisher will launch "Wolverine & the X-Men" #1 in October to be followed by a new "Uncanny X-Men" #1 in November as part of its "X-Men: Regenesis" plans.

According to the Associated Press,Kieron Gillen will continue writing the adventures of Cyclops and the mutants who decide to stay with the longtime X-Men leader, while "Schism" scribe Jason Aaron will tackle "Wolverine and the X-Men."

Axel Alonso, Marvel's Editor-in Chief and longtime head of the X-editorial team, told the AP, this plan was one a long time in the making and not a decision made for a quick sales bump. "For five years, we've been getting our ducks in a row to prepare for `Schism,' just as 'Schism' sets up a 2012 event that will have all eyes focused on the X-Men," he said

Stay tuned to CBR for more news on Marvel's X-plans.

Neal Adams & Christos Gage Team For "Wolverine" Project
Comics news can break just about anyplace these days, but it appears that when it comes to acclaimed artist Neal Adams and Marvel Comics, interested fans should make sure they're following the right folks on Twitter.

A few months after Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis Tweet announced that Adams would be drawing the introductory "New Avengers" #16.1 (whose cover is at right with penciled interiors appearing in a recent Talk To The Hat column on CBR), the artist himself took to Twitter to release the barest details of his next Marvel project: a Wolverine collaboration with writer Christos Gage.

"I just finished New Avengers 16.1 written by @BRIANMBENDIS who has been saying very nice things about the work. (blush) He's posted pages," Adams wrote last night on his account. The artist then followed up, saying "Clearing the board for a five part Wolverine that Marvel seems to have re-titled "The First (something!)" I don't think I am supposed to say" and adding "I've heard nothing but good things about @Christosgage I intend to make this one of the best collaborations in comics ever. He does too!"

Of course, considering the fact that Adams is also finishing the maxi-series "Batman Odyssey" for DC (which he also addressed on Twitter), it may take a while before the official final details of the Wolverine project hit the web.

Stay tuned to CBR News as more information becomes available.

Gillen: UNCANNY Cast Are Most Powerful X-Team of All Time (http://www.newsarama.com/comics/uncanny-x-men-relaunch-gillen-interview-110617.html)

I found something to be very note worthy.

This:

Nrama: I know you can't talk about roster (and really, we wouldn't want you to spoil it!) but with Cyclops as the ostensible leader and a desire for a "world-class superteam," can you describe what kinds of mutant characters you see as being appropriate for that style of team?

Gillen: You're making a presumption here. The Schism is between Cyclops and Wolverine, but we haven't said that Cyclops actually ends up on my side. We haven't said that Cyclops even survives. There's all sorts of possibilities which I wouldn't rule out. Let's see where the end of Schism #5 leaves us.

But generally speaking, what kind of mutants are on my team? Extremely powerful ones. I'd argue the core cast of nine are the most powerful X-team of all time.

What a weird thing to say....
We all know Cyclops is not going to be killed; because there would be no need to split the teams if he was! It would end this 'things will never be the same agian' event before it even began.

And Cyclops has to be in this title, because the others are spoken for by other teams. And I don't see Cyclops taking over X-Factor Investigations (god would that suck!)

Uhhh not true. If the pro-Cyclops side blamed Wolverine's side for his death that would be a pretty good reason for the split or if you know Wolverine killed him. Also pretty sure Cyclops being dead would be a pretty big "things will never the same again" event.

Word!

Scott also has been shagging Emma Frost.

Moreover, Scott has been viewed the leader of all mutant kind. Even Magneto is in admiration of him, as he lead the X-Men to San Francisco and then turned Asteroid M into the island of Utopia, a sanctuary for the remaining mutants.

So, I'm going to start reading, slightly old issues of Uncanny X-Men (slightly old, as in, about 12 issues ago)

Do you guys have any Idea what issue I should start on?

Thank you.
Read all of Matt Fraction's run.

Start with issue #500.

I disagree. Fraction's run was pretty crappy imo. You might be better off hitting the bigger X-Stories like House of M, Messiah Complex, Second Coming etc.

I concur that Fraction's run was pretty lame. I mean the Quarantine (about 4 issues ago) storyline just seem like "filler" material.

I can't speak to the quality of Fraction's run, but I think you can't really go wrong with just reading the X-"events". That's what I do.

Hope has been kidnapped and there is only one mutant who can track her down: Wolverine! And when Mutankind needs their messiah more than ever, will Logan do what's necessary to find Hope? Will the source of his animosity for the red-headed savior finally be revealed?

Does Alpha Flight count as an X-Book? Oh well.

Guardian is most likely back on the Alpha Flight team/book we just came out. Cant recall if its an ongoing or mini. Where are you starting with Uncanny?

Alpha Flight is an 8 part mini series.

I was thinking of starting Uncanny on either #500 (it was recommended to me, but I can't find it) or #538 (it is right next to me), which one do you suggest?

538 is the last part of an arc that continued from Astonishing X-men. Not a bad read and I'd suggest getting the parts before it if you want. 539 is the beginning of a new arc and will start to deal with the Schism storyline that is being teased. This wouldnt be a bad place to start and you can supplement that with the Prelude to Schism books that have just released and is up to issue 3 of 4. There is a big bad coming so great that it is threating to divide the X-men. Scott will lead the UNcanny X-men and Wolverine wil lead well....Wolverine and the X-men. The prelude books show Scott speaking with various members and gaining some insight as to how to handle the as of yet undisclosed big bad.

Thanks. I guess I will start on 539. The dividing of the X-Men is what is getting me to read Uncanny.

I don't really know much about the Marvel Universe, The only Marvel titles I have read were Secret Invasion, 2 issues of Iron Man, 10 issues of Captain America, and Alpha Flight.

Guardian comes back somewhere in the Chaos War, which was not related to Uncanny. He's back in the recent Alpha Flight One Shot issue that came out a few weeks ago, and he is starring in the limited series Fear Itelf: Alpha Flight.

Guardian appeared in Unanny #109 (which I began reading this morning) to bring Wolverine back. He was never an X-Men.

Not a problem. I was a fan of Alpha Flight back in the 80's when it first came out, but after issue 12 when they blew Guardian up I stopped reading. He went in a non super hero type way.

Spoiler Alert

Guardian suit is mechanical like Iron Man. In issue 12 of Alpha Flight, Guardian fought some dude at Alpha Flight headquarters (IIRC) and at the end of the fight Guardian's suit is badly damaged and is about to explode unless Mac can disable use suit. Each panel of the comic is a countdown to the explosion and him frantically trying to stop the explosion. The panel hits 1 (IIRC) at the end of the page where Mac's wife enters the room distracting him. Flip over to the next page, and BOOM! Bye-bye Mac.

Thanks. I guess I will start on 539. The dividing of the X-Men is what is getting me to read Uncanny.

If you only care about the X-Men becoming divided you might as well avoid Uncanny altogether. 539 looks like a one-issue filler until the the Fear Itself tie-ins start with 540. Instead I'd recommend you hold off until Schism comes out and then continue on with the new status quo afterwards. I suppose you could pick up Prelude to Schism if you really wanted to but nothing I've read in it so far makes it seem like mandatory reading.

Otherwise I'd recommend picking up the major X-Events or picking up 534.1 which kicks off Gillen's run.
