Not a bad choice. Though, do being 'in negotiations' really mean he's been cast AS Hammond?

Though, IMO, I would have gone with someone else, but he can work.

He doesn't have the Hammond look per se but he can act and for that I think it'll work.

Considering the source, it would be a tremendous fallout if he didn't get it

And just WHO would that source be?

Interesting casting. Peter Sarsgaard was never on my personal radar for the role, but I saw quite a few people over on Superhero Hype suggest him for Hector Hammond. I've liked him in the movies I've seen him in, he definitely has the snark factor going for him nicely. I'm sure he'll do fine.

the same guy who broke the Blake Lively news, and many other news bits. Point is, he wouldn't run an in negotiations article without confirmation from his sources.

He's an interesting choice and definitely not one of the people I had in the back of my mind, but he appears to be a solid actor.

Have to go check Netflix and see what movies he's done are available. Hopefully we'll get some Sinestro news soon.

Not a bad choice. He's a good actor. I thought Rainn Wilson would have made for a much creepier, psychopathic Hector Hammond. But, to each his own.

In my opinion this is good casting, Sarssgard is a really talented actor. I met him briefly on "Jarhead" and he's really nice. I think he has the right look, and if you've seen his performances in "Garden State", "An Education", "Boys Don't Cry", and "Jarhead" then you know he can run the gamut. He's truly talented. I think he'll do a great job.

W.West
01-13-2010, 12:21 PM
Maybe with this news people can stop complaining about "young cast" and calling out Hollywood just because they aren't Hugo Weaving or Nathon "Can't act for crap" Fillion. Maybe people will put just a little faith behind Martin Campbell and the people involved, and believe that everyone who gets their role actually tested well for it.

JohnnyV
01-13-2010, 12:32 PM
lol, West. You realize you're talking about people making posts in an internet forum. The complaining will never stop, even if the complaints are unjustified, and unwarranted. "Blake Lively = cashing in on young acting" - is about the dumbest shit I've read on the internet in awhile.

Mostly, because A.) No one has ever seen anything that she's in. or B.) If they have seen something she's in, it's on Gossip Girl. A role that she was probably desperate for in her young career.

Personally, I love that Lively is getting this role. I think she'll be hungry to turn in a stellar performance. Better than Russell, Garner, or Kruger who might have just seen it as another paycheck.

<H1>Blake Lively Talks Briefly About Green Lantern

The Gossip Girl star makes her first comments about the film after officially joining the cast.
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k158/ponyboyzero/blake-lively-serena-gossip-girl.jpg

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Blake Livelyhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif (http://www.thegreenlanterncorps.com/forum/#) was asked how she felt about being cast in the role of Carol Ferris in Martin Campbell'shttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif (http://www.thegreenlanterncorps.com/forum/#) Green Lantern

“Oh my gosh, it means the world!” Lively commented while at an LA book release party Tuesday night.

For those of you that aren't aware of the character's background, Carol Ferris is the only child of aerospace mogul Carl Ferris. She hired Hal Jordan as a test pilot and quickly found herself attracted him.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k158/ponyboyzero/sexy-blake-lively-sherlock-holmes-p.jpg

“It’s such an exciting film to be a part of, wonderful cast, wonderful studio and it’s an amazing role so I’m really thrilled.”

When the topic of changing her hair color for the moviehttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif (http://www.thegreenlanterncorps.com/forum/#) came up (Ferris is a brunette), Lively kept quiet but made a funny face.

MPP - As opposed to the general consensus on this site, I think she's a great choice for role! Looks wise she's spot on except for the hair color. I think she's a much better choice than she two contenders Jen Gardner and Keri Russel.

Hopefully we'll hear some Sinestro casting news soon.

The promotional ring (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002Y5RP98/ref=ox_ya_oh_product) that they've been giving out for Blackest Night. It's a big plastic one, my primary motive for using that one is that I can re-cast it to build a light-up version later.

Heh heh, true that. Though I think he'd fit better as Tomar Re, with his slim physique.

I think Abin should be a bit more ripped, since he was described as a "great warrior". Someone like Liam Neeson or Patrick Stewart, someone who's voice alone exudes wisdom, and has the physical stature to be impressive.

Besides, Abin doesn't need much body acting, I mean, he basically just lies there dying... probably some fighting with Legion, but basically just dying :P

Access Hollywood talked briefly with Blake about being cast as Hal's love interest:

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Blake Lively couldn’t be more excited to go from “Gossip Girl” to “Green Lantern.”

“Oh my gosh, it means the world!” she told Access Hollywood of her big-screen casting news on Tuesday night at the book release party for “Gossip Girl” fashion guru Eric Daman’s “You Know You Want It” in New York. “It’s such an exciting film to be a part of, wonderful cast, wonderful studio and it’s an amazing role so I’m really thrilled.”

Blake recently won the role of Carol Ferris – reportedly over stars including Jennifer Garner and Keri Russell – who is the love interest and boss of pilot-turned-superhero Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern, last week.

Ryan Reynolds is set to star in the title role of the film, scheduled for June 17, 2011. Peter Sarsgaard is reportedly in talks to play the film’s lead villain.

Whether Blake will stick with her trademark blonde locks is another story. In the DC Comics, Carol is a brunette. But the star is keeping her hair colors to herself, demurring to reply and making a funny face when asked by Access if she would go dark for the film.

She was more outgoing on the subject of Eric and his influence on “Gossip Girl’s” fierce fashion.

“He’s so terrific, I feel like he’s one of the biggest reasons ‘Gossip Girl’ is successful,” she said, recommending his new book. “I’m a little jealous he’s telling the world his secrets.”

Martin Campbell says Mark Strong in talks to be SINESTRO

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/sherlockonesheet281.jpg

Sherlock Holmes" actor Mark Strong is in talks to play Sinestro in the "Green Lantern" movie, according to director Martin Campbell.

Speaking with MTV News during the junket for "Edge of Darkness," his upcoming action thriller opening January 29, Campbell dismissed rumors that "Watchmen" actor Jackie Earle Haley was in talks for the role.

"No, that's completely wrong," said Campbell of the persistent rumor, which popped up again recently despite Haley denying any involvement with the "Green Lantern" movie. "In fact, we're in negotiations with Mark Strong to play Sinestro."

"He's not only a wonderful actor, but he looks like Sinestro," he added. "If you look up old pictures of Sinestro, he's very like him. The Jackie Earle Haley thing, somebody told me about it this morning; I had never heard it before in my life."

If negotiations pan out, Strong will have a role in not one but two much-anticipated comic book movies, as he also plays mobster Frank D'Amico in Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of John Romita Jr. and Mark Millar's "Kick-Ass." However, Campbell didn't stop there — he also offered up a list of characters from Green Lantern's universe making an appearance in the film.

Oh, and brace yourselves, folks — Kilowog is one of them.

"Well, Kilowag will be," said Campebll. "Tomar-Re is in it. Sinestro is in it. Abin Sur is in it. All the origin people. Carol [Ferris], of course, who will be played by Blake Lively. All the main characters are there, and it's a complex story. The origin story of Green Lantern is complex, probably one of the most complex, which makes it a challenge to get it right."

If Strong becomes Sinestro, he could join recently announced in-negotiations actor Peter Sarsgaard, who's in talks to play villain Hector Hammond.

In the comic books, Sinestro is a former Green Lantern who trains Hal Jordan (played by Ryan Reynolds), only to become one of Jordan's greatest enemies when he leaves the cosmic police force.

Wow! Literally my only complaint about this is that Mark Strong has been my top choice to play Captain Cold in a Flash movie for quite some time, and now that won't happen. :(

Other than that, I'm VERY happy. I've been telling anyone who'll listen for a couple of years now that Mark Strong is one of the most consistent, underrated actors working today, and I've been happy to see his profile raise lately with his roles in Sherlock Holmes and soon Kick-Ass. Is he being typecast as a villain? Possibly. But you can't complain when he plays bad guys so damn well.

Mark Strong is someone I never considered for Sinestro. But if he does indeed have the part, I really couldn't be happier. Great actor playing one of my favourite villains - bring it on!

hell yea, I thought he was freaking evil in Sherlock Holmes, good actor, can definitely pull off the look and body build for Sinestro, not 100% on the height but hey 3 out 4 (acting ability, look, build, height) is far more then enough

yes they can. Look at the old lone ranger tv series. Clayton Moore was REAL short but they made him look tall. And with an effects driven movie like this it would just be another thing. However if the person playing the part just happens to be taller than what their action figure will be then that IS a plus. And that wasn't my only problem with JEH. I just thought there were better choices out there. This is one that I didn't think of but agree with completely

Spectremjm
01-16-2010, 01:52 AM
Hammond and Legion are the villains, Sinestro is still a good guy (technically anyway) in the movie. And the number of villains was not the problem with Spider-Man 3. It was the way it was handled and written. Batman Begins had several villains, did it ruin the movie? No. Superman II had 4 villains and it was still very good.

Echo7Solo
01-16-2010, 01:57 AM
agreed. it isn't the number of bad guys in the movie it is how they are used. Plus if Legiond and Hammond are in it then you add Sinestro and Carol then you have 4. The thing is two out of 4 will be set up for the other movies :D

Kilowog has been confirmed. BIG CHECK! Mark Strong as Sinestro? The only thing I recognize him from is Body of Lies, which was a craptastic movie. But it wasn't bad because of him.

I'm glad to hear Campbell is trying to tackle a more complex origin instead of just slapping together a simple piece of crap.

So far, so good.

Liana Sur (Abin Sur's wife)

I caught some of "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" last night to check out Blake Lively. Her storyline was the only one not about landing some dreamy boy - it was more dramatic. I thought she did fine. I don't imagine she'll be asked to do too much as Carol other than convey a particular persona and I imagine that would be determined largely by the director, so I'm not so concerned. Her performance won't be the "Sofia Coppola" of the film.

I've watched some interviews with her, and I just like her as a person. She doesn't have that dumb, un-earthly personality like so many other starlets (Megan Fox). Of course she has plenty of time to go off her rocker. Which might happen once she becomes Carol Ferris, and thousands of people ask her to sign their Green Lantern batteries.

I really want to check out that indie movie she's in, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1134629/, think she plays a crackhead. Might be a good place to see what her acting range is like.

I find it hard to imagine that old "mustache, big head and red skin" look making it to the film - it's just so cheesy *and* corny. (Mmmm, cheese and corn....) It looks ok in comics, but for live-action I imagine they'll have to go a little further with it. EVS or whomever helped by making the white of his eyes black to emphasize that he's an alien. I would think they'll put in lots of details like that to avoid making Sinestro look so dated. (it's bad enough his name is so goofy...)

I've always pictured Patrick Stewart in my head as Abin Sur since I was a kid. He looks like Abin, and his voice is so booming and charismatic. Everything about Abin that's important comes from what should be a powerful death scene, and he could easily pull that off.

The Oscars were lousy with GL cast members - Ryan Reynolds introduced a Sandra Bullock clip, (his hair seemed to be a bit longer than usual in front - a glimpse of Hal's look?) Tim Robbins introduced Morgan Freeman and Peter Saarsgard introduced one of the best actress nominees. (his head was shaved - his look for Hammond or an indication he'll be wearing a hairpiece of some sort?)

Young Carol means a Young Hal ---

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k158/ponyboyzero/Jenna-Craig-567689-859.jpg

Actress Jenna Craig (The Final Destination, Year One) has confirmed on her website that she will portray 11-year old Carol Ferris in Martin Campbell's Green Lantern. Blake Lively landed the role of her adult counterpart several months ago.

The character of Carol Ferris is the only child of aerospace mogul Carl Ferris. When she was visiting her father's airfield as a child, she witnessed the death Hal Jordan's father. While Hal Jordan was always shown as loyal and loving to his father, Carol was a bratty braggart that felt superior because of her father's position.

Since this pivotal scene is kid-Ferris' introduction into the Green Lantern mythology, it's safe to assume that it will be included in the film.

I'm willing to bet that is going to be similar to the scene johns wrote where hal meets Carol at the air show and then watches his fathers plane crash.

Yes, definitely!
I have an Alex Ross JLA special in my hands now, and Ryan looks much like Ross' Hal Jordan!
Now I just need a good shot of him wearing the ring (where you can actually see the ring details) or the flying jacket, or maybe both!

well in the first leaked script I read alan Scott is in the movie and I think he is still a member of checkmate but i could be wrong, so either waller is in there to help setup checkmate with alan, or takes alan's role from the script that was leaked.

Well, in Smallville Checkmate is going to be introduced soon (if ever it has not been yet)... I guess WB is going to:
1)Introduce Checkmate to both small and big screen audience, in order to get them confident with it in order to...

2)Plot up to JLA. Clearly WB is planning something a la Avengers... but in a slightly different way.

Yeah, I'd say that's pretty likely, as well as our first (real) look at Abin Sur and probably Sinestro too. I'm really excited to see Mark Strong as Sinestro, he really has a passion for that character and bringing an authentic adaptation to the screen.

Yeah, Strong seems to really be taking hold of the character and doing his best to bring Sinestro to the screen and he's easily the second thing I'm most excited about with the film. Temuera Morrison as Abin Sur was a great choice, and I can't wait to hear him giving the ring to Ryan.

When it comes to details, I think they'll tell us who's playing Kilowog, Tomar and the Guardians at SDCC but that's probably it, unless their in a good mood and spill all kinds of info (Here's hoping). I also hope they'll show the final looks of all the main characters.

That's why Princess Iolande is one of the CGI characters is weird...OK I know the situations are different.

I just want to say poor Katma Tui. Arisia can be in First Flight, Bzzd can be in the film, but because of great Sinestro, Katma Tui almost can't appear in any place on the screen, at least can't now.
