Story Outline for Season 1 - War of the Spectrum

This story will act independently of the comic books and its history.

With numerous attempts to conquer, Starro learns his lesson that he must beat his nemesis(es) before invasions can be attempted. With his sights set on the Green Lantern Corps and the rest of the spectrum. His plan is to infiltrate all of the various spectrum corps and pit them against one another in a war that will decimate every branch of the spectrum. Utilizing Qwardian technology, he's able to hide his presence when taking over a host. Even from the rings of the Green Lanterns. The beginning of the series will also introduce various members of the GLC, and show their standing within the group. John Stewart will be an up-and-coming rookie and the start of the show will show his origins as a marine and architect.

Taking over a band of Qwardians, Starro attacks a remote planet. Causing the Guardians to send their brightest champion, Hal Jordan, to investigate, due to fears of a potential Qwardian invasion. Upon arriving, Hal's taken over by Starro. Thus, begins the first part of Starro's plan. Arriving back on OA, Starro takes over other members of the GLC, then leaves OA.

The unannounced departure of Hal Jordan and other members of the GLC worries the Guardians, who send Kilowog, along with another up-and-coming member of the GLC, John Stewart, to investigate what happened. This will represent the middle portion of the series, when in tandem, we see Hal-Starro attack various members of different corps, while Stewart and Kilowog investigate the planet where the Qwardians attacked. As the series builds up, Hal-Starro and his group are able to infiltrate every corps of the spectrum. Which leads to various attacks on Green Lanterns in different sectors of the universe. Once this news gets back to the Guardians, they begin preparing for an eventual attack on the Corps. They bring in Guy Gardner to head up a defense committee.

News of the impending attack reach Stewart and Kilowog, who step up their investigation efforts. Upon arriving on Qward, Stewart and Kilowog are attacked. They are saved by The Weaponer, who agrees to help Stewart and Kilowog for a price. They must return a power source he once utilized, from a remote location in the Anti-Matter universe. A location he is unable to travel towards. He refuses to explain his reasoning, but vows to help them with their investigation if they help him with his problem. They are tasked with retrieving the core of a long lost relic, the Anti-Monitor. With no other option, and time dwindling, they agree to the Weaponer's deal. They retrieve the Anti-Monitor's core, and the Weaponer gives them a device which allows them to see who's affected by Starro. This leads Stewart and Kilowog to assume the Weaponer is the one who helped Starro, but he expels them from the Anti-Matter universe before they can confront him.

While Stewart and Kilowog are in the Anti-Matter universe, and after their eventual return, the invasion of OA begins. With thousands of members across various corps killed during the onslaught. Blue, Orange, and Indigo are the first corps to be extinguished. Leaving the brunt forces of the Red lanterns, Sinestro Corps, GLC, and Star Sapphires to fight one another. Hal Jordan and the rest of the infected Green Lanterns are able to destroy the Red Lanterns. This is when Stewart and Kilowog arrive on OA. Joining up with Guy Gardner, they're able to find a small band of Star Sapphires, who they test the Weaponer's device on. They save them from Starro's control, one of these Star Sapphires is Fatality. This will mark the beginning of Fatality's and Stewart's romantic plot line. Now, with Stewart, Kilowog, Gardner's forces, and the saved Sapphires, they confront Hal and his posse, who've destroyed the remaining Red Lanterns. They are able to subdue Hal Jordan and his group, saving them from Starro's control. They confront the remaining Sinestro Corps members, releasing them from Starro's control as well. They turn tail and run.

The end of the first season will show the aftermath of the war, with the Guardians learning that Sinestro escaped from the sciencells during the attack on OA. We then learn that the Weaponer made a deal with Starro that he had to release Sinestro from his imprisonment if he wanted him to give him the device that hid his presence from corps rings. Hal returns to Earth, giving up his ring. Finally, we see Sinestro catching up to the small band of corps members that ran from OA. John Stewart is recognized, along with Kilowog, as being the heroes of the war. With Stewart becoming the prime lantern of 2814.

I think I would watch both of these, but, cheap as it sounds, I have to go with GL just because I'm a bigger GL fan. And I miss GL:TAS.

Don't count on that to carry my vote in every round, though, Johnny.

Green Hornet as it would make a good TV series.

Before I read Johnny's proposal, I think it hurts him to reuse actors in roles they have already done. Sure if this was actually happening, it would be for the best but for this draft, I think it was an uncreative decision.

Also, written by John Vinson? You sure you want to hinge your proposal on your ideas alone?

If you don't vote for Green Lantern, you're probably a racist.

Here it is, roughly. I can provide more if demanded.

The last time anyone could recall seeing or hearing anything about the Green Hornet was just before the fall of Oni Juuma, Yakuza crime boss in Century City and the masked criminal’s only true competition left at the time. The reports of the Green Hornet and Kato staging a raid on a Yakuza deal right before the organization was taken down by the police sent shockwaves through the city, as Oni’s removal signaled the end of all the major established crime families and the Green Hornet’s sole ascendance to power.

Then, nothing; the Green Hornet all but disappeared, leaving behind a legacy as a man who had everything, a city in his thrall, and chose to just give up, walking away from an enterprise that would’ve made him set for life. With the foreign Yakuza uprooted and the Green Hornet mysteriously vanished, Century City rejoiced. Frank Scanlon, the tough on crime mayoral candidate backed by Britt Reid, the newspaper magnate, won in a landslide election as the credit for the end of organized crime in the city was pinned on him. Life marched on and Century City was at peace.

Fast forward a couple of decades and Britt Reid, Jr. is not living up to his father’s illustrious reputation.

Britt Reid, Sr. was a philanthropist, involved in local politics, a pillar of the community. His son, sole heir to his company and fortune, is a party boy, lothario, and constant target of the paparazzi. The two hardly agree on much, save that they both grieve for Britt the elder’s wife, Britt the younger’s mother, who passed away from breast cancer several years ago, gone too soon.

As Britt Reid, Sr. plans to hold a reelection benefit for Frank Scanlon, still in office by the skin of his teeth, his former political luster having been tarnished in recent years, Century City also welcomes Hirohito Juuma, son of recently-deceased Oni Juuma and head of the Juumasan gaming company, whose arrival signals the creation of new jobs and a thriving economy for the city. By all appearances, Hirohito seems to not have followed in his father’s criminal footsteps.

The elite of Century City partake in the festivities, unbeknownst to them the conflict that has landed at their doorstep.

The benefit, held in Britt Reid, Sr.’s own home, is crashed by the Black Hornet. A menacing figure clad in all black, openly mocking the Green Hornet’s former garb, save for the mask obscuring his face, but not his words. He challenges Britt Reid, Sr. to combat, shaking the millionaire to his core, but not deterring him. Britt Reid, Sr. steps up and Britt Reid, Jr. is forced to watch as his own father takes on the Black Hornet, and, despite the fight he puts up, is defeated, falling down dead on the floor. Before Britt Reid, Jr. can attempt revenge, a mysterious woman calls him off. The Black Hornet escapes, his mission apparently successful.

Later, Britt Reid meets Hayashi Kato, his father’s former partner in crime and himself a father. Mulan Kato, the woman who protected Britt during his father’s gala, has been trained for years in the way of martial arts, a prodigy who lives up to her father’s legacy. Together, the two inform Britt of his father’s secret past as the Green Hornet. The heir apparent is shocked by the revelation, and made all the more angry when he’s denied a part in their scheme to uncover Britt Reid, Sr.’s murderer because of his inexperience and attitude. Not one to take no for an answer, Britt adopts his father’s mantle and learns the ropes of vigilantism from trial by fire, ultimately being let in on Kato’s plan and being trained by Mulan.

With the help of Mulan Kato’s cousin, Clutch Kato, whose white trash demeanor belies a true technical genius, Britt and Mulan outfit themselves as the next generation of crime fighters in the city, the new Green Hornet & Kato.

The story would unfold thusly: Hirohito Juuma is revealed to be taking cues from his father, Oni Juuma, who faked his own death to escape life imprisonment and who had returned to take Century City as his own. Oni did not want Britt Reid, Sr. harmed, though, as he knew it would draw too much attention to their operation. Hirohito pursued this himself in order to regain his family’s honor. What’s more, Hirohito would be supported in this sole venture by none other than Frank Scanlon, the mayoral candidate's earlier lamenting of not having a public menace to use as a political rallying cry laying clues as to his true intentions. Ultimately, both Oni and Frank are betrayed by Hirohito, seizing power and honor for himself as the only crime boss left in Century City, Yakuza or otherwise. This, of course, leads to a climactic battle with the Green Hornet and Kato, where the victor walks away with the soul of a city.

This affiliation with the Yakuza would lay ground for later exploration of Hayashi Kato’s time after he left Century City and returned home to Japan, including the revelation of Hayashi’s prized pupil-turned-Yakuza assassin Redhand, who would appear in later media.

However, the core story remains: Britt Reid, Jr. adopting the mantle of his fallen father and seeking answers as well as establishing himself in his own right with the assistance of the Kato family against the resurgent Yakuza in Century City.

Directed by and adapted from source material written by Kevin Smith.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Not a lot changes in the transference from book to film, as that summary covers the first two volumes pretty comprehensively, if I do say so myself. Like I said, I can provide more or answer other questions if asked.
