  • Game Draft 2 rd 2: Eternal Darkness vs MegaMan X4

Since the dawn of time, four ancient gods have fought each other in a permanent standstill. Ulyaoth, with powers of magic. Xel'lotath, with powers of the mind. Chattur'gha, with powers of physical strength. And Mantorok, with powers of chaos.

Their struggle would have gone on forever, without a clear winner, if it hadn't been for Pius Augustus (Michael Fassbender), a Roman Legionary in Ancient Persia. Corrupted by the power Xel'lotath, he became the undead Liche, dedicated to the binding of Mantorok, the rise of his master, the end of humanity, and an Eternal Darkness.

2000 years later, Alexandra Roivas (Kristen Bell) travels from Seattle to Rhode Island to identify the corpse of her grandfather, Edward Roivas (John Noble). He was killed alone, at home, in a room locked from the inside, and his head is still missing. The police runs out of clues very soon, and Alex decides to solve the case herself. She soon finds a hidden room behind her grandfather's library, a secret study holding an ancient book: The tome of Eternal Darkness.

Every episode of this HBO series deals with one chapter of this tome, deals with one life that was changed forever by the ancient ones and their undead servants. There is Karim (Jacob Anderson), the Persian Swordsman, who tries to prove his love to Chandra (Freida Pinto), only to sacrifice his life as the undead guardian of Ulyaoth's artifact, to stay by the side of Chandra's spirit. There is Anthony (Emile Hirsch), a messenger to Charlemagne, who is trying to solve a gruesome murder in a French monastery while battling the demonic power that is building within him. There is Ellia (Jamie Chung), the Khmer slave girl, chosen to hold Mantorok's essence.

There is Maximilian Roivas (John Goodman), ancestor of Edward and Alex, who discovers the ancient city of Ehn'gha under the family mansion, sees things no man was ever meant to see and becomes insane, murdering his own servants. There are archaelogists, architects, WWI field reporters, firefighters in the first gulf war and even Alexandra's grandfather himself. All of them found the tome of Eternal Darkness at one point. All of them got drawn into the struggle of the ancient ones. Almost all of them died.

While every episode initially seems to be stand-alone, they are all tied together in subtle and not so subtle ways, creating a rich tapestry of insanity and damnation. In the end, it will all lead to a final confrontation between Alexandra and Pius. Will humanity survive?

    VS

    Directed by Seiji Mizushima
Reploids X and Zero have begun to help build a world where no Mavericks exist. Since then, the Reploids are now living in peace with humans, and many large Reploid armies have formed, each one at peace with one another and growing every day. The Maverick Hunters, ever growing, have begun to wipe out the remaining Maverick resistance, and have been heralded as the keepers of the peace. One of the largest and strongest Reploid armies, known as the Repliforce, have developed strong ties with the Maverick Hunters, with their similar ways in honor and the desire for peace. In particular, Zero has befriended one of the leaders of Repliforce, Colonel, so much so that they have become fast friends, and Zero has shown affection for Colonel's sister Iris. Together, the Maverick Hunters and Repliforce protect the world from the Mavericks and ensure peace, but little did they know that their loyalty toward each other was about to be tested. Before long, the Maverick Hunters receive a report that the Sky Lagoon, a floating city in the sky, has been sabotaged to cause it to slam into the city below. All intelligence showed that Repliforce were suspected to be behind the plot. X and Zero respond immediately, heading out to the Sky Lagoon to find answers, little realizing that the true Mavericks are about to pit the Hunters and Repliforce against each other, in a bid to wipe out both sides, unless the Hunters can discover who is really behind the plot before all is lost...
Jonny Yong Bosch voicing Zero & Roger Craig Smith voicing X

Zero is the primary focus of this animated feature, as he leads the fight to stop the Repliforce at all cost. However Zero himself has memories of an old doctor. Who is Zero, and what are his true origins? This battle will be Zero's most personal yet.

Backing up Zero is the Maverick Hunter known as X, Dr. Thomas Lights last creation and best hope for the future of Reploids. This fight becomes personal for X as he questions his ultimate fate, irregardless he's always there for his friend Zero.
    Steve Blum voicing Sigma
    Luci Christian voicing Iris
    Sean Schemmel voicing The Colonel

The evil Sigma, once commander of the elite Maverick Hunter squad turn to the dark side forsaking everything he was originally programmed for. What does Sigma want with the Repliforce? More importantly, what is his connection to Zero?

Iris, girlfriend of Zero and brother to The Colonel. Torn between war, Iris's role is that of peace until one action will cause her to slide away from Zero.....forever...

The Colonel leads the main front for the Repliforce's fight for freedom. He is soldier with honor. He respects X and Zero, but he will not stand idly by as they are branded Mavericks after the fall of the Sky Lagoon. The Colonel will defend the Repliforce, even if it cost him his life.

    David Hayter as The General
Jeremy Irons voicing Dr. Thomas Light
and Jeff Bridges voicing Dr. Albert Wily
Leader of the Repliforce, a man who wants nothing more than a utopia only for Reploids. Sadly his ambitions are the tools with which Sigma will use to start open war between the Repliforce and the Maverick Hunters. What is leader to do in times of war.

100 years ago, these two men shaped the history of robots and their legacies extended to this current time. These two serve as cameos with but Dr. Wily having the bigger role of the two.

As much as I would like to see the MegaMan movie, Eternal Darkness sways me. Having Guillermo Del Tor as Director, and John Noble and Kristen Bell, two of my personal favourites, as actors helps, especially after Fringe and Veronica Mars.

Looks like Megaman made a big comeback since the last time I checked this.

No, seriously. What happened here? The other matches this round had 8, 9 and 12 votes respectively. This one had seven, only 48 hours ago, and the result was a pretty clear 6-1. With the exception of kazzar, who argued in favor of Eternal Darkness, there was no discussion in this thread. And then, out of nowhere, come seven votes for Mega Man just before the poll closes, leading to a total of 14 votes, the highest participation in any draft round in recent history? This seems awfully suspicious.

Iggy probably begged for votes from people who could care less.

              This.

Cause there's no way in heaven or hell that a decently cast Eternal Darkness, being directed by Del Toro, should lose to a Mega Man game-movie.

                Okay, what the hell?
Go away for a day, and shit happens. Eternal Darkness should have won this by a mile. Suspicious things are happening here.

Then why bother doing these drafts to begin with?

I brought a similar point up in a previous draft, but was made to look like a consipracy theorist. How's that looking now?

For the record, I voted for Eternal Darkness.

I decided when creating the polls that voting would be anonymous because we would get more voters that way. From now on(post videogame draft), we'll just have to settle for the voters with enough testicular fortitude to reveal their votes (and hope that doesn't make people vote against teams out of spite).

I propose just banning Miss Azalea from all future drafts.

HAHA! Nice reference. For a minute there I was like "Who the hell is Miss Azalea?"
I LOVE conspiracy theorists. They are like human versions of the cymbal clapping, dancing monkeys. No one takes them all that seriously and they get bored with them after about 10 minutes.

Then have Heide advance in my place, if this is going to be a problem going forward.
