And yeah, River needs her own show.
Actually I think this has more to do with the new Torchwood series. I think they don't want Doctor Who having to compete with it. So their splitting the series so that Torchwood is airing in between the Doctor Who season halves. Also Many shows airing here in the U.S. have these split seasons. They tend to do it for DVD sales I think they release a 1.5 season dvd set containing the episodes that aired in the first half of the season then again after the season is over so they double their dvd sales.

      *nod*
As for DVD sales, BBC has, certainly for the last 4 series of DW, released single DVD's with three episodes each while the series' have been airing, however someone posted a link to a Guardian article following link to my LJ account earlier where Steven Moffat explains his reasons for the split.

"Looking at the next series I thought what this show needs is a big event in the middle," Moffat told the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival.

"I kept referring to a mid-season finale. So we are going to make it two series – seven episodes at Easter building to an earth-shattering climax, a cliffhanger we could never normally do because it would be too long before it came back. An enormous game-changing cliffhanger that will change everything.

"The wrong expression would be to say we are splitting it in two. We are making it two separate series."

I'd like to think that the doctor comes across a group, new to time travel, who have decided that their first act with their new-found technology will be to kill Hitler before he leaves Austria for the first time.
The Doctor, somehow, has to talk them out of it of the world as we know it will cease to exist.

Without getting to far into the realms of Qward, can you imagine what the repercussions of killing Hitler (prematurely) would be?: - Israel wouldn't have been established; India would likely still be under the control of the British Crown; the USA might still be an isolationist state; there would have been no cold war; technology would be decades, or more, behind where we are today.

          • I was on another site and everyone is talking about finding out who River is. Did I miss an episode or something. They act like they all saw it. I sure hope I didn't miss it.

Episode 7 A Good Man Goes To War, it's revealed at the end of the episode.

                    haha, true.

But no, BBCA had been releasing on the same day, but they decided to skip a week between the two Flesh episodes because they thought Memorial Day weekend would be bad for ratings.

You're assuming only Hitler would've started the war. That's unlikely. Read Goebbels' diary. He speaks of the need for a new government and dealing with "the Jewish problem" long before he's even heard of Hitler. He wasn't alone.

'What if' conversations are fairly silly.

No, but he was the one with charisma enough to persuade the German public towards war and forge the crucial alliances. He also knew how and where to focus propaganda to good effect.
I'm not saying the war wouldn't have happened, but the outcomes and duration would have been different.

                                That's fair.
Certainly the duration. Few Germans were supporting the war at the end there.
If the National Socialists hadn't taken the government, the Communists probably would've. Who knows what effects that would have had.
