More than likely their story idea deals with a 1st doctor adventure as as both actors who have played the 1st doctor are dead, they have decided it's a good idea to reboot. Perhaps make the character younger and give much higher design and production values to that era of the doctor.

It's not a reboot, per se; just a standalone film in its own universe, like the two Dr. Who movies from the 1960s. The TV series will continue along in its own established continuity.

Let's forget the Peter Cushing movies, there weren't any Timelords in them!

I really wouldn't mind seeing Doctor Who movies, so long as they were done properly and in the spirit of the character.

There's certainly a lot of room in the franchise for more stories, with any given incarnation that they don't need to start messing around with reboots or parallel universes.

There's a whole Time War story to be told, alternatively there's a lot more to be told about the Doctor's early years, before being discovered by Ian and Barbara (although not necessarily an origin story).

Before the days of Ecclestone et. al, all Doctor Who stories were stand alone tales with no seasonal story arc (apart from Trial of a Time Lord).

But what's the point? Really? When these days a TV series is often bigger than a movie, and where a movie is usually done as a way of ending a franchise (X-Files, Sex and the City, The Inbetweeners).
Frankly, The Christmas episodes, Planet of the Dead, Waters of Mars and End of Time were all 'movies' albeit without a cinematic release.

Is anybody going to [want to] watch a movie with the recognisable cast removed? It really didn't work for Cushing's movies, it certainly didn't work with 8's movie (which drove the nail further into the coffin, rather than providing the impetus for a revival).

That got away from me a bit...

Anyway, to sum up, yes to a movie if they can do something that could be easily slipped into canon.
          No to human Doctors
No to a cheap and greedy attempt to cash in on a name, with little or no relationship with the source material (Cushing, Steel, I'm looking at you!)

            • Willing to bet the Dr will end up as some pouting, pretty 20 something. Still if they actually cast someone older who doesn't look like a catalogue model then they would be off to a better start than the series.

Also, the Cushing movies were great. So there.

              • Matt Smith is not at all pretty and David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston are both in their 40s (Eccleston was 41 when he took the part and Tennant was 35).

When casting the Eleventh Doctor, they wanted to get someone older, but Matt walked in and did his audition and they were like "fuck, we love him"
