  • Matt Smith Confirms Himself for Series 8 2014
Matt Smith has confirmed that he will continue to play the Eleventh Doctor in Series 8.

In an interview from Saturday’s edition of The Sun’s TV Magazine, Smith says: “I’m on a break for a couple of months while I’m in Detroit making How To Catch A Monster.”

“We come back and shoot the Christmas special over the summer, then we go on to the next series, which will either start filming at the end of this year or at the start of 2014.”

So there you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth!

Interestingly, back in March The Sun claimed he was leaving at Christmas.
I LOVE conspiracy theorists. They are like human versions of the cymbal clapping, dancing monkeys. No one takes them all that seriously and they get bored with them after about 10 minutes.

    • Ah yes, I heard about this a while ago on another forum. Should have posted it here. A lot of people are hoping for a mid season regeneration.

        • Matt Smith might continue to play the Doctor into season 8 (11.4), afterall, David Tennant continued to play the Doctor into season 5 (11.1) - for about three seconds.

                • SPOILERS!

I'd like to think he's the Valeyard or rather the Doctor who became the Valeyard... but with the way 11 was talking, it sounds like a past regeneration - My suggestion would be before William Hartnell who did something horrible which caused him to be so guilty he became The Doctor as a self imposed penance

                  OR

A forgotten regeneration somewhere (before the first or between 8 and 9) who did something so horrible that The Doctor believes that generation doesn't deserve the title (which 11 suggested when he said what he did to Clara about why he picked the title)

                  • I just watched last weeks episode. So it seems that the Cybermen and the Borg are becoming one and the same.

                        I hope he's the valeyard.

But even if he is an incarnation of the doctor, he won't actually be the (Xth) Doctor, as he does not have the title of doctor. So really you could argue that although the valeyard is the doctor in the future, he's not actually a doctor. But whatever.

I hope he's the Valeyard. After all, we did get a valeyard reference in this episode. I think that would be the perfect way to do the 50th. I've been begging for a Valeyard return for ages!

Also, loved how we saw all the classic doctors. A bit angry we never saw McGann though. Maybe they want us to forget he was the doctor. Maybe they're rebooting it so Hurt will be the 8th doctor instead, although we saw a picture of Mcgann last week.

                          • Hmmm. Dont know what to think of Hurt's appearance. It does seem to lend itself to it being a past self, although the fact that the Doctor was in his own time stream does mean its possible it could be a future incarnation.

I wouldn't mind him being the Valeyard. But with everything I have been reading and seeing online I am more inclined to think he will be a former regeneration that the Doctor has chosen to ignore and suppress. If Hurt is a former incarnation, I have a feeling we will finally get to hear the Doctor's name when the 50th anniversary special comes around.

Onto this episode though: I enjoyed it. I was disappointed that the Whispermen and the Great IQ were the baddies. I was hoping for the Silence. I liked the nods to the past in this episode and rather enjoyed seeing the Doctor actually steal the TARDIS. Great concept I believe for an episode, but I feel like the execution was lackluster.

                            • there have been rumors that John Hurt's character is actually....

                              **SPOILERS**
highlight to read.......The "REAL" 9th Doctor, that would make Christopher Eccleston's Doctor actually the Tenth and David Tennant the 11th and Matt Smith the 12th, the reason why they never mentioned John Hurts incarnation and pretty well skip him entirely has something to do with his actions during the Time War which after the season 7 finale...looks like is about spot on

                              • I heard that too. I beg that this isn't true though. I think that would be just awful.
