    • lol "Stetsons are cool"

Anyway, the Christmas Special... ummm... it was good, I guess. The Doctor kind of came off as a dumb jerk. I suppose some of it could be passed off as the missing human element (like not coming to the obvious conclusion that Abigail is dying) but some of it (like completely rewriting someone's history just to try to make them a better person) just seems kinda douche-y. Maybe it's just the Smith Doctor is a bit more of a jerk than Tennant's Doctor was.

I just finished Season 5 with Matt Smith, and whoever said it was absolutely right- the last two episodes were friggin AWESOME. Tonight, I picked up a Holiday Specials collection, and got done with the first one. Onto the second.

          Cyber-King was HAWT. :P
That was me. They were awesome. Hope the next season will as good(or better, which won't be an easy thing to do)

The Christmas special was good, but it could have been better. Smith's doctor is a bit douche-y, but he is a bit more entertaining at times

          • He's been douche-y since his first appearance I noticed that in series 5 he cared a lot less about his companion's life than Tennant did

I guess since getting hurt by the whole Rose thing, he came back with less feeling

            • RE: the christmas special- I don't think the Doctor was necessarily changing the old man per se, but getting the old man to change himself. And to me, the most positive thing about the whole episode was that they used the shark as a psitive life form rather than the whole "Jaws" vision. That absolutely made my day. That Mako Shark was so cool, and to see this beautiful woman singing to it and treating it like a little baby just blew me the hell away. Such a special moment. (Big Shark enthusiast here).

The funny thing is, ever since NS2 told me about the holiday special, I absolutely told my family that we have to be home BY 9pm because I am NOT missing this special. I went through 3 visits to various family members, plus our own little get-together. Dr. Who topped it all off for me.

lol @the Shark stuff and whatever he did, it's seemed kinda like he was just being an asshole. The Doctor probably wouldn't have even noticed this crashing ship if not for Amy and Rory. And instead of tricking him or reasoning with him, he goes and rewrites his history for his own means...

                    • Know what I dont get? Why are people interacting with their younger selfs? Did everyone forget what happened when Rose held herself as a baby?

You should see him in Gosford Park.

                          I liked the episode.
It had a steampunk vibe (as DW often has), which was cool. All steampunks believe the future (even colonized planets) will in fact adopt a Victorian aesthetic!

Actually, I was the same way about Matt Smith....after David left, I figured I was done with Dr. Who. Then I saw season 5 on DVD at the store and hemmed and hawed about it. I finally broke down and bought it. And I have to say- Matt is pretty decent. Obviously, he brings a very different perspective to the role, and I started to grow a fondness for him. So I'm down with Matt now. lol

At first I thought, no one could ever top Baker. Then Tenent came along. Now I'm wondering if Matt can top those two.

The difference there was that Rose had already saved her dad's life and turned her into redundant object in space-time, (by being a future Rose that was no longer possible because her father was no longer dead) and damaging the fabric of the universe in the meantime.

Whereas old Sardik touching young Sardik was a different case. While Young Sardik's life could have resulted in many possibilities, Old Sardik's was still one of the possible outcomes, neither of the Sardiks had become redundant in space-time.

An alternate explanation is that the TARDIS has some basic protection against paradoxes, which the Master amplified during Sound of Drums and Last of the Timelords.
As Rose's action in Father's day led to the TARDIS being erased from the timestream, that protection didn't exist.

What I'm really pleased about is that Moffat is looking harder at the problems and possibilities of manipulating events in time that Davies ever did.
What I suspect, though, is that at some point it will all come back to bite the Doctor in the backside.
There are reasons why the Timelords had strict laws against interference and that the consequences of breaking those laws were far worse than just being exiled to Earth. I suspect that whatever the silence is that has fallen, will be one of the consequences.*

*(I remember watching an episode of the Outer Limits where a woman invented a time machine and changed lots of events in her past: the consequence for her was that she remembered every time stream, which put an incredible strain on her brain and led to her going crazy and having an aneurysm, I wonder if the Tardis is having a similar problem?)
