The Coming High Food & Gas Prices: Fact or Fiction?

Ok if you follow FOX News, Palin, Beck, and Rush you know that they've been talking about the coming high food & gas prices for sometime now and i was wondering what do you all think of this?

sidenote as some of you may know i work at a grocery store (Food Lion) and for the past year or so i've seen things change that none of our costumers have even looked at. for example we no longer sell Bud. Beer 20 packs, we sell 18 packs but the price never changed so your still paying for a 20 pack, samething happened for a 50 lb bag of dog food (now 40 lb) and for most of the diapers (30 packs become 20 packs) you may not see it but we're getting less but we're still paying as if we're getting more ()

Coming? Shit, it's already here. Out here in Cali., we're paying over $3 a gallon for regular gas.

well if you follow Beck he says it could be $5.30 by the end of next year (and that's just for gas what he says about food is crazy)

This isn't anything new, and it won't get any better so long as we require petroleum products as our main fuel source.

And yeah, of course food is going to get more expensive, we got rid of all the train lines and replaced them with trucks that run on gas.

What we could really use are some infrastructure upgrades that make us less dependent on oil...but that ain't gonna happen.

It's been happening for years. Of course, they (Beck) say it's going to get worse. The better question is: should they be trying to prepare Americans for it instead of scaring them?

Well coincidentally gas went up by a good ten cents right after all the repubs got nominated.


I know it amolt always happens with elections, but not by that much, especially after it spent almost 2 years hovering right below 3 a gallon.

I doubt there'll be a serious hike in food prices, many nations have stockpiles for just this sort of thing


However there's no denying that in 50 years we'll have twice as many people and will have lost a third of the worlds best farmland, what will happen then I honestly have no clue but I pray I'm not around to have to see it

i hope your right Mrt but Beck said something about Kellogg's going up in prices soon (he said something like $20 just for one box of cereal, crazy i know), i asked one of the Keellogg guys who came to my store a few days ago about this and he said yes it's going up just add $3 to $5 to what it is now before taxes ()

I know the EU has bought up and has massive stores of stuff like powdered milk, canned meat, vacuum sealed grain, etc in silos on the continent and in Britain, America I've no idea, is it likely to have big stores?
