Whereas there seem to be many more fans of Highlander and/or its sequels and spin-offs than have appeared on the fan group (The Gathering)
and whereas it would be impolite to hijack Andrew NDB's own film thread
and whereas a remake of the original Highlander is in the works (there was a thread for that announcement), this thread can serve as gathering place for Highlander news or just any discussion.

    So, for a first post.

I've been re-watching season two of the show and it struck me how much information the intro crammed in.

"He is immortal. Born in the highlands of Scotland 400 years ago, he is not alone. There are others like him; some good some evil. For centuries he has battled the forces of darkness, with holy ground his only refuge. He cannot die unless you take his head, and with it his power. In the end, there can be only one. He is Duncan MacLeod, the Highlander."

Can you imagine if you never heard of Highlander before how odd and how much information that is?

I, Booster Gold, am insulted that you did not post a picture of the best Highlander project to date with your two photos.

~Oh, sir, you know that was never the best Highlander could be.~
It was still better than 3 of the 6 seasons of the main series, though.
      ~That is true, I suppose.~
Not to mention all but one of the film sequels.
      ~Touche, sir. Touche.~
Hah! Sword lingo. Nice one, Skeets.

I have yet to see Raven, but will when I finish the main series, especially with such a high recommendation.

Whats the point? the last movie took a massive shit on the entire series and made every piece of the mythology worthless, I find it hard to watch any Highlander show or film knowing that this is how it ended, its like The Crow movies, accpet HL is worse because its all one big story.

          Spoony's review sums it up for me;

          http://spoonyexperiment.com/2010/12/...source-review/

Should have left it at the first movie imo.

I, Booster Gold, would rate the quality of the film franchise as follows:

              Highlander
              Highlander - Season 4
              Highlander - Season 5
              Highlander: Endgame
              Highlander - Season 3
              Highlander: The Raven
              Highlander: The Search For Vengeance
              Highlander - Season 2
              Highlander - Season 1
              Highlander: The Final Dimension
              Highlander - Season 6
              Highlander: Reunion
              Highlander: The Animated Series
              Highlander 2: The Quickening
              Highlander: The Source

As for The Source ruining the franchise. Remember that it was effectively removed from official continuity shortly after its release (via an offical skit featuring both Duncan and Amanda at a Highlander convention where Duncan mentions a dream where Joe died). Also, it should be noted that it was not even the last production of the franchise, Reunion was... and while it takes place arguably "before" the great catastrophe that plunges the world to where it is in The Source (as dipicted in the comics, if anyone recalls) and thus could coexist within said continuity... but it doesn't... because The Source didn't happen. Just like The Quickening.

~I did not realize you were such a nerd, sir.~
Oh, you realized it. YOU encouraged it.
~Yes, sir, but you have taken it so far.~
              Oh, shut up.

I might put Final Dimension (which I found fun) higher, but at least agree with your bottom 3.

What the hell is a "fun fun"? Seriously, is that a typo?

I remember when I was a wee lad the Fox station in my city would play the movie, what seemed like 4-6 times a year. It never caught my attention because (Freddy Mercury, please forgive me!) of the freakin' soundtrack! It was just the most annoying sound I'd ever heard! Echh!

Years later, I had a girl who loved the freakin' franchise. She tried to get me to watch with her...I kept falling asleep. I DID however, go to see one of the movies when it was released in theatres. It was ok...but not really.

She was so into it, she gave me Duncan's, or the other dude's, miniature sword on a necklace. It was cool because it was a little sword I wore around my neck...I wonder what happened to that thing?

Anyway, long story short...there can only be one all conquering franchise and that is the Wars...yes my friends Star Wars! Which is better , I wonder?

No seriously, I'll check out the re-make when it's aired on HBO or something.

"There can only be one." I use that line whenever I meet someone with the same name as me. Last time I did that, I think the dude (friend of a friend) took it kind of seriously because he didn't talk to me for my entire two-day visit! *shrugs*

The line is "There can be only one," not "There can only be one." Adrian Paul gets mad when you say it wrong.

~How would you know that, sir?~
Because I watched the behind the scenes featurettes on the Endgame DVD?

I kind of have a problem with weighing an entire season's worth of episodes against an individual film, but your list isn't too far from my own.*

And the final judgment on whether or not the Source is canonical is sort of a "take it or leave it." "Reunion" lightly suggests it might not be, but we still see "The Source" mentioned in story blurbs on Big Finish's recent (and official) audio novels read by the actors. While a shitty story and a horrid movie, it's relatively harmless in the timeline (beyond Joe's death... but it wasn't like he was going to live forever anyway).

*: I'd put Highlander 3 a bit higher and The Raven quite a bit lower.

Yes, a typo. It was supposed to be "which I found fun." I was typing fast (getting ready for dinner). FD wasn't quite fun fun.

Dude, we should totally make that an interweb thing! The new slang! When something is "fun fun", it's the most awesomest thing ever? Whattayasay?

Fair enough. I, Booster Gold, was unaware that Big Finish was doing audio novels for Highlander. I might have to look into that.
