  • Winter The Dolphin Gets Her Prosthetic Tail!

Winter the dolphin lost her tail over five years ago. True story, btw. She was out doing her thing and got caught in a fishing net. Her tail, tangled in the net, lost blood circulation. When she was rescued it had to be amputated. Everyone thought she wouldn't survive.

Here we are all these years later and volunteers (who had worked on prosthetic limbs for other animals) have managed to grant her the gift of swimming again by creating her a synthetic tail(s, there's more than one version).

Warms the heart, to know there are good people in the world that would volunteer their time to help out lil' Winter.

[EDIT]: Can't post the vid. for some reason, click the link and there's a video of her story.

Wouldn't it have been cheaper to just put her down?

      In theory, yes.

But dolphins and humans, haven't we always had a "special" relationship with them? Also, by learning more on aquatic animals movements, undoubtedly it could be used to make the better boat or whatever.

      So glad she's ok, though.
