I haven't seen it, but it's pretty obvious that audience aren't going goo-goo over it.

Who knows apparently it's just like every other Ridley Scott movie and there's a director's cut waiting to be released on Blu-Ray/DVD.

Another thing was, I was looking for the final space jockey to get up after getting facefucked by the giant facehugger and make an attempt to take off again, only to have an alien burst out of his chest when he got back into his chair, killing him. The facehugger eggs that are see in Alien would have come about if the alien that burst out of his chest had been a queen. That didn't happen as it all plays out right there in Vicker's shuttle.

But NOW I'm hearing, (and I haven't had time to verify this yet) that the planet they are on in Prometheus isn't even the same one the Nostromo investigates the distress call of in Alien. They are both labeled LV something or other, but the number is different in Prometheus than the one given in Cameron's Aliens. If that's the case, everything goes out the window altogether and it looks like the space jockeys just had a bad run with their weapons program all over the place.

I LOVED that the chick and the android decided to take one of the four ships and go on to where the space jockeys come from to get answers. If they decided to do another movie they could, but if not that's a GREAT way to end the film.
yea, that they were on a wholly diff planet (LV-223 instead of LV-426) was something I picked up immediately as Im an anal-rentive continuity whore (and proud of it damnit!!) for things like this, but it being so doesnt throw off anything from the previous 4 films, which is a good thing. the only other things I have to contend with mentally is the fact that: 1) LV-426 is actually CLOSER to Earth than LV-223 (the 1st is 10mos away from home by ftl, the latter 24mos) which to me means that they *shouldve* picked up the 1st beacon a lot sooner than they did given how far out the colonies had been at this point, 2) the fact that Weyland AND his daughter die (prolly leading to the company to merge w/who or watever "Yutani" is within the 30yrs time diff between this and Alien) on a rock where the company KNOWS they were headed to......but apparently never followed up on when it & crew doesnt ever return, and 3) exactly HOW did that android learn the Albino Weaponers language?? they didnt have *any* sources for it that we saw, so how could it have spoken *watever* to that albino, let alone practised it over the 24mos time they were in hypersleep?

I suppose shrinking the Albinos was Scotts "geoffcon" (or, more appropiately, his "Greedo shoots 1st" -moment), where he had something done early on, but then regretted it for watever reason.......or possibly forgot due to being 70+ and forgetful.

wont happen: IIRC that ship & pilot wouldve been there (and undisturbed) for *much* longer than the 30yr time gap 'tween this movie & the 1st could allow.

well, I think NOT billing itself as a prequel mightve hurt it, however comparing its performance to Mad 3 is somewat erroneous, as thats kids movie which is automatically guaranteed to bring in *atleast* 2 tickets (since the young'uns cant/wont be buying their own), and the 2 movies play up to 2 very diff crowds.

and OF COURSE theres gonna be a dir. cut to this movie; U shouldnt have even had to wonder about that..........

..And GL wasnt a kids movie? It was and still tanked, I do get what you're saying but Mad 3 JUST because its a kids movie does not mean its going to be a success at BO.

Prometheus is a movie that has flaws and it seems reviews and word of mouth have spread enough for it to effect the BO numbers, I can not disagree, the movie is just about ok imo, but I can totally see people finding it awful, I compare it to Alien3 which gets the same reactions.

I would think the DirCut will improve the movie like it did with Alien3.

Its funny you said that without seeing the movie, the film it self is full of black goo-goo, that will make sense when/if you watch it.

No, but his point is probably valid. Children's movies are more likely to draw in a whole family than sci-fi horror would.

actually, Id say GL wasnt a kids movie, not in the same way atleast. while yur right in that simply being 1 *isnt* enuff to guarantee financial success (and I wasnt trying to say that either, but I guess I shouldve expanded my position on that point), Mad3 is the 3rd offering of a successful franchise that has also been continued to remain in the publics eye (and positively so) with the tv spinoff featuring The Penguins, so it would have to work hard to fail.............whereas GL was a completely new film franchise targeted to the masses (not just the kids OR its fans) and Prometheus is the latest offering of a franchise that hadnt been touched in almost 2 decades (and wasnt even advertised as such, which wouldve affected its notoriety).

to me, it just seems logical that 1 would make more money over their shared initial wk-end, but thats a long way from saying "Alien 5" will be a financial failure, which seems to be how M.W. is calling it.......

              • OK, I admit, I haven't seen the movie, and likely won't, but I found this a hilarious review concentrating on some of the more absurd aspects of it (which are certainly not unique to this film, but funny nonetheless).

I could break every movie I've ever seen down like that, but I certainly wouldn't enjoy most movies if I did.

I think it can add an extra LAYER of enjoyment, myself. Just because you enjoy a movie doesn't mean you can't ALSO enjoy pointing out the stupider bits.

(And let's face it, the notion that a bunch of people would be going on a deep space mission without having met each other in advance, and without even knowing the purpose of the mission, IS more than a bit absurd.)

Not if there's a greedy CEO who wants you to be kept in the dark, and have the potential Earth media to be kept in the dark. Kind of like Jurassic Park.

U have a point on that 1st part, and as for the 2nd all I can say is they did the same thing in Aliens, but that didnt stop it from being an awesome film. ;P

Except in Jurassic Park I thought there was a cover story. It's one thing if people are told one thing, then another is revealed. It's something else when you don't tell them anything, especially with the duration involved here.

I just don't think it's all that plausible that you would be able to recruit a bunch of professionals for a voyage that will take YEARS (as opposed to the days involved in JP), and they'd all get on the ship without so much as saying "Hi!" to each other first, and wake up at the other end GUESSING what they were doing there.
