My 2 cents worth: Saw it Sunday night, wasn't entirely disappointed. There were some great scenes there, and the new and improved Ripley had me completely stunned with her "self surgery". However, there does need to be at least one new chapter to connect this to the Nastramo story, since they ship that Nastramo discovered and the one covered in Prometheus are clearly not the same ship at this point. Wasn't crazy about the very end since it didn't really look like what we are used to seeing, although who knows....it could be the progenitor. Yeah the movie left more questions asked than answered, so I hope they can at least fit in one more prequel to tie up loose ends.

Yo.
it also wasnt the same planet as the 1 the Nostromo was routed toward, but the point was that the Engineers (or Weaponers, as I call'em) had multiple installations in this part of the MWG while going about their business.
I agree that Id be interested in seeing/learning about how they came to be about the business of making weps, as well as learning where they came from originally; it'll likely be something dark & apocalyptic, but ya never know.

I think Im going to go see it again this week. Knowing now that it's a different planet makes me a lot more forgiving of things that weren't continuity errors in the first place.

I think you know a movie has failed when you have to do too much homework to even understand what you just watched.
Inception is a movie that asked you questions, but you still enjoy it and dont need a ton of research to understand, that is optional if you choose so.
For Prometheus it is required research if you want to understand.
While I like the idea of Prometheus 2 n 3 the thought of having to wait how many years for them to even get made is off putting, thats like LOR coming out and they just say well yeah you'll get your answers in the next 2 movies, we have no idea when they are coming but you'll just have to sit tight and wait, and yeah I know LOR is not even as complex as Prometheus, but its just an example.
Further more a movie should be able to stand on its own two feet without another movie to explain far too many things.
You can watch Aliens without watching Alien and vice versa, if their ever is a Prometheus 2 I dont think you will be able to do the same.
I guess what we have seen is that the gap between Alien and Prometheus is too big, by that I mean Ridley is no longer the same director, 30 years is a long time, Perhaps like Alien3 they should've gave a young up and coming director a chance to explain this other side of the alien universe like Ridley got his chance years ago.
Yes I know Alien3 was a failure but any fucking movie following Aliens would be, plus it was tied to the Alien Ripley Saga and not really allowed to go in a different direction like Prometheus.
Instead Ridley went out and hired the guy from Lost, I guess that should have set alarm bells off from the go.
I hate how some people are trying to find some deep under layer to this movie that some how makes it a classic, its the same people that think Matrix is something deep, it might have been if they left it at one, but surely not after they fucked it up.
Its true that theirs other mediums out there that ask and pose the same questions Prometheus does, but they actually do it better like the obvious At the Mountains of Madness, too bad Del Toro gave up on making that movie now thanks to Prometheus.

Christian Philosophy
Ancient Astronaut theories
Lovecraft
Cosmic Horror
I would pick out parts where these apply in the movie (like the obvious intro) but theirs far too many, so I'll just say the entire movie.
That's before we get started on the plot holes, now I want this in by tomorrow or you fail class Mr Tazer! :PLast edited by Frank Castle; 06-16-2012, 02:13 PM.

well, I always hated school so U might as well gimmee that F now........
as for the rest, all I can say is that while that stuff *could be found there* if ya looked, its not really necessary to do so NOR does it make the movie "un-graspable" for the average viewer afaic.
personally, I just want somebody to tell me how da fuck she managed to make it back to the android w/only 30secs of air left..........

Whoa Whoa dood I'm a straight man, I dont know what you think getting an F means, now if this was a scene out a naughty america movie you'd be quite happy at getting that F.
You also over estimate the average viewer, these are the same people on mass who are continually funding RE with more and more movies, one day people will ask how we ended up with 8-10 RE movies, and nobody will know, just like Prometheus.
All I can say is the reviews of people speak for themselves.
As for the running out of air, I assume (because thats what this movie makes you do) that she got some resupply pack on the pod thing where the squid was, I think... I vaguely remember her grabbing some stuff, might be wrong, or its just something that happened off screen.
Also since David was a total fibber for the entire movie, he probably had some extra spacesuit or air hidden somewhere.
I'm just making up shit because I really dont know, theirs also the idea that Charlie Theron was actually a robot, theirs some decent reasons for this, but again the movie doesn't make it clear, and if she was a robot what was her purpose? David had a purpose, the only thing I get from her is she likes to bark orders and that you probably dont want to be too close to her when shes burning marshmellows around a camp fire.Last edited by Frank Castle; 06-16-2012, 04:01 PM.

Prometheus only made 5 million on friday. That's a pretty big second weekend drop. Fox may reconsider doing a sequel.

I take this to heart because I was a big RE fan, its just awful to see where the movies have gone, its a pity because as horror and zombie fan, I would have loved to seen it done right, and not just been an excuse for Milla to where skimpy outfits while she shoots big loads in slow motion.
Too bad her other fetish film what was it Ultraviolet? didn't take off, otherwise they might have just left RE alone.
As for people not liking sci-fi, thats not true, Avatar was a massive success, the difference is it aims low with its plot and is not a jumble to follow, however if you want to find a deeper meaning its there.
Prometheus is too grand for its own good and more likely things flew over peoples (casual cinema goers) head, and it doest even do its own QnA very well, I doubt they left thinking ahh yeah that was Space Jesus.
Whats obvious to you is not so obvious to others, we could use our resident alien expert on these boards as an example, you know.... that guy

Jokes aside that will be too bad if we dont get a sequel, the whole point of Prometheus was to explain all the questions from Alien, I dont feel we got that and they even admit its two movies away from reaching that point, maybe someone will do it in comic/video game from or something.
