I've been wondering lately about star trek. We haven't had a new series in years, and the closest we've had is a movie reboot. But if you could make a new star trek series, when would it be set, where would it be set, and who would be in it? Or would you just not want another trek series.

Would people want a new star trek series?

I'm open to the idea, but I can live without it, for sure, even as a big Trek fan.
There supposedly is a new Trek series pitch that happened very recently, called Star Trek Cardinal, but when I looked it up, I didn't see a lot to interest me. Kind of a "gritty" take on Star Trek, with a oddball ship filled with misfits. Might make an interesting series, but not really thinking it sounds much like Star Trek to me. DS9 was about as "gritty" as I'm interested in getting with Trek, meaning not very.

Yo.
the biggest (and best IMNSHO) Star Trek -stories have to do w/exploration & how other things fit in relation to *us*, so Im down for anything that stays true to that concept. my twist on it would have an alien as the head Starfleet officer, as its never been done b4..............
oh, and dont forget the green chics, cuz U cant have an ST-series w/o them!! ;P

Overall, though, I enjoyed it, and enjoyed it a LOT in the last season when they seemed to have finally gotten on the right track. They cancelled the show JUST as they were figuring out how to make it really good, IMHO.

Star Trek declined more and more in terms of popularity and quality when the writers focused more on the science than on the adventure and its people.Villain Draft 3: Fourth Place Winner

If it were up nto me, I'd have the captin as a dark and tragic character and he's hiding something from the crew, and he's on a exploration mission for five years (like the other ones) but instead of enjoying meeting new characters, he just gets deppressed and wants to go home. There would also be a human nemises of the captin for the whole series and he's a member of the crew. He'd be sort of like Q was to Pichard but darker and human. Also, the ship won't be all white and squeeky clean, it would be dark and a bit rusty like RTD on Dr who or maybe star trek: enterprise. Also, the captin would be a veteren from a terrible war between the federation and the klingons or the borg. That would explain why the ship's in such bad shape, and if the borg were the ones the federation had a war with, the borg would be thought to be extinct but then have some survivours come back (like series one of doctor who where the doctor finds one surviving dalke, then he fights a hell army of them). Thoughts?

I didn't watch much of Enterprise, but I thought the concept of the show was pretty cool.
I would be in favor of a new Star Trek series. Since The Next Generation had a Klingon as a security office, I think it would be logical to have a Romulan as a Starfleet Captain. You just witnessed the strength of geek knowledge. N.W.A., Nerd With Attitude. Straight out of Vulcan!

Originally posted by Mister Ed View PostNot my preference, no. Not that I am completely opposed to a show with that tone (though I am not a BIG fan of "grim-n-gritty"), I just don't think such a show would seem very "Star Trek" to me. Star Trek, traditionally, has a certain level of optimism, and I prefer my Trek that way. If everybody is all depressed and scheming against each other, that's just not Trek. Might make an interesting show, but I'd just as soon you called it something else, and didn't try to shoehorn it into the Trek universe.

A Star Trek where all the characters are from a planet of aliens that coincidentally look just like garden gnomes has never been done before, either. By your logic, that means it ought to be great.
Keeping a somewhat consistent tone to the universe does not mean you have to repeat yourself. Or would it be a good idea to have a new Alien movie where everybody is happy and cheerful, and the aliens learn to get along with everybody? I mean, it would be different, right? Don't want to be boring by maintaining a consistent tone!
