  • GoodFellas' Henry Hill Dies

    69

In the end, the mob didn't whack him and he really did have to live the rest of his life like a schnook, albeit one with an awesome movie made about him.

TMZ reports that former gangster Henry Hill, whose biography "Wise Guy" was adapted into Martin Scorsese's 1990 classic GoodFellas and starring Ray Liotta as Hill, died Tuesday in Los Angeles after a long battle with an undisclosed illness. He was 69.

"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster," said Hill in the opening of GoodFellas. But after getting caught in a drug sting, Hill gave up his Mafia cohorts and lifelong friends to avoid prison. He went into the Witness Protetction Program, and struggled to stay on the right side of the law in the years since.

Following the success of GoodFellas, Hill became increasingly public, writing cookbooks and appearing as a guest on the Howard Stern show. It was reported earlier this year that AMC is developing a TV series based on GoodFellas.
