Exactly, alot of people I know hate that. He also had it a bit in terminator 4 (man did that film suck?). He had it DKR a bit, but not as much in DK, and it sort of worked better seeing he was older and more fragile by then.

I say this as someone who hasn't even decided if they like the Joker in DK, but that's not necessarily true. He gives two stories of his origin. Either would be enough to explain his psychosis and therefore give him some motivation. It may be thin, but it's not "zero" motivation. In fact both sound consistent with the backgrounds of real-life serial killers.

In addition, he specifically states that he has the goal of taking down Batman, villainizing Gotham's other hero, and revealing Gotham for what it is. Again, these are all crazy but they motivate him to do what he does.

Rises goes crazy with arcs. Everyone has one. Bruce, Gordan, Blake, Foley, Selina, Miranda, Alfred. It's nice when I watch a film where characters change from where they start and actually evolve. It's also nice in a film where the film isn't a jaded, lifeless, and emotionless piece, like the Dark Knight, or isn't so cramped, claustrophobic, and minimal, like Begins.

I would argue that of the list, only Bruce, Blake, and Selina technically "evolve" as characters.

Maybe I should have said: "Bane has no motivation? Then neither does The Joker". I agree, I think he has some motivation, but it's still less than Bane's, but that doesn't make either of them bad. It's easy to simply say someone's crazy. I think all three films go a bit further than the Amazing Spider-man "Oh, he's just a crazy guy" route.

Gordon's a stretch, and Foley's arc is very minor, and Miranda's arc is spoilerific, but you gotta admit that Alfred's is pretty major, if early on in the film.

The reason Dark Knight's still a good film is because these little things are irrelevant. It's like Lost, if after season 4 you're still saying it makes no sense and you want to know where the Polar Bears came from, you're doing it wrong. It's about the characters, their stories. The plot's just there to facilitate those characters and their growth.

I think Rises is the best of the trilogy because unlike Begins, a character in the film has an arc, and unlike Dark Knight, that character who has an arc is the main character. I like that the Dark Knight could just the same be applied to Harvey Dent, who was clearly the main character since he was the only character with an arc, but I'm not fooling anyone, the Dark Knight was Bruce.

I was under the impression that Bruce used someone else's x-rays and MRI scans to cover for the story of being a cripple, although no cartilage was kind of overdoing it.

There should be a rule around here: One poll per month. It's getting ridiculous with all the useless polls that are popping up.
