  • Multibillionaire in talks with scientists who cloned Molly, plans on CLONING DINOSAUR

    holy shit

Just months after making public his intentions to build a fully functional replica of the RMS Titanic, eccentric Australian billionaire Clive Palmer is already setting his sights on another larger-than-life endeavor: Cloning a dinosaur for a Jurassic Park-style attraction.

The Sunshine Coast Daily reports that Palmer is in "deep discussion" with the scientists responsible for Dolly — the first mammal successfully cloned from an adult cell.

A source close to Palmer told the Daily that the mining magnate plans to make a home for his cloned dinosaur inside his redeveloped resort in Coolum. If you're not into attractions that could go horribly, horribly wrong, Palmer also plans to install a casino and a mega Ferris wheel.

No word yet from Palmer on the veracity of this claim, but an official press conference is scheduled for Friday.

Last I checked, in order to clone something you needed a complete genome. I'm kind of doubting anybody has that for a dinosaur. I'd believe a Mammoth before a dinosaur. They keep finding those things frozen in ice, don't they?

my only real concern is what if they bring back like some old disease?

Yeah, but you know, they can fill in the gaps with frog DNA John Hammond style.
Now you'd never call Erwin a "Wussy"
Nor label his working day "cushy"
But you might have to question

How could this possibly go wrong? Nope, can't think of anything.

Obviously you get it from the blood of a mosquito preserved in amber. Duh.

i was thinking about that just now. i am curious to see if doing it like that would work

I don't like this at all. It not good to bring back old species, especially ones that might be savage.

I'm no expert by any means, but I was under the impression that current cloning tech doesn't re-construct a genome, or even alter it, it just straight-up takes a complete set of genes from one cell and puts it in an egg and induces it to divide. I didn't think we even had the ability to "fill in the gaps" with something else.

and that fill in was frogs in the movie if i remember correctly

female frogs to be exact because all dinos were female in the film

But for the record, you can sequence and toy with the human genome....well, I can't, but someone with the knowledge can...the problem is probably rendering something that can sustain life. You might almost end up with something like a dinosaur if you tried hard enough.

It was frogs in the book too...however, some of the dinosaurs changed sexs like some species of frogs can if the frog population favors one sex too heavily...(that might be bullshit, I'm honestly not sure.)

Yeah, I know what it was in the movie. I'm saying in real life I'm not sure we currently have the ability to Frankenstein up a "complete" genome from a bunch of different bits. I thought current cloning used already complete genomes, possibly inserting a sequence or two in somewhere for experimental purposes.

Naw man, scientists fuck with the genome all the time. Some fuckers in Germany made dogs that glow in the dark a few years ago.
