Eric Bergren, an Oscar nominee for co-writing The Elephant Man, has died. He was 62. The WGA said he died July 14 of complications from liver cancer in his hometown of Pasadena.

He's an important figure in French culture, not just for his drawings and paintings, but also because of his connections to different filmmakers, including those who worked for the film publication Cahiers Du Cinema in the late 1950s. Dufour is referenced in the writings of Alain-Robbe Grillet. Dufour's hand appears in Jacques Rivette's art epic 'La Belle Noiseuse'.
