  • Aww. Well, he lived a long and productive life. You didn't do this, so I'm not blaming you, but it's annoying that the stupid article titles it "Harry Potter Actor." He was in like a thousand things including the co-lead of All Creatures Great and Small for many years, but no, his obit is titled after his secondary character in HP (not that I don't like him in that role).

Funny side note, he was considered a leading historian on and marksman with the longbow, a subject he felt very passionately about (in its role in Medieval history), writing and filming about it.

Daniel Licht, composer for TV’s “Dexter,” died of cancer late Wednesday. He was 60.

      • I know him mostly as Fudge of course, but I've also seen All Creatures Great and Small, and he was superb in that as well.

Interesting fact about that bow thing. I actually took archery during camp a few times. Fun, though of course I'm sure the pros would blow-me out of the water, ha-ha.

Haruo Nakajima, the Japanese actor who originated the role of Godzilla by stomping around in a hot, heavy suit long before the introduction of CGI, has died.

It must have taken some real guts & skill to operate that uncomfortable kaiju suit like that, but he did. RIP!

The very first suit they built couldn't be moved at all. The one they went with he couldn't stay in for more than a few minutes and at the end of the day, they'd pour out the sweat. He sustained a serious injury (to the crotch no less) in the suit and many close calls.

He played the big G 12 times and other suit monsters for Toho and Ultraman productions as well. A real artist and actor. He'll be sorely missed.

Yeah, especially with how heavy those suit was. Jeez, at least he was really good at holding it, especially in several films. I know I wouldn't survive a minute in at least one.

                • ^Yeah, me too. Even some of these make-up jobs in the sci-fi/comic book movies, I don't think I could handle. As soon as I'd hear "now you have to be in this five hours and it takes two to take off," I bet I'd get a crazy itch wherever the makeup is.

I'd practically be sweating like a hog as soon as I even started to get into one of those suits.

We lost another of the singing cowboys. R.I.P.

                      • Damn, I knew he was getting pretty bad, but actually losing him really sucks. I first heard him in High School High with John Lovitz, and Rhinestone Cowboy is actually a great song. Gonna miss him.

That's the one where the hip hop DJ scratches his "Rhinestone Cowboy" record? I remember that. I'm debating whether to watch True Grit (where that pic comes from) again tonight. I love the movie and he's great in it, but it doesn't feel like it's been that long since I've seen it.

                          • Yeah, HSH has the record scratching scene. I watched that with my dad fairly recently because I'd bought the DVD off my one boss, and my dad laughed when Campbell started singing, recognizing him instantly.

                            • Alice Cooper, who was a close friend of Campbell, gave a nice interview tribute today. Interesting when he talks about how well regarded Campbell was on the guitar, like how Van Halen asking him for lessons!
