US Air Force officer and test pilot Chuck Yeager, known as "the fastest man alive," has died at the age of 97.

Yeager broke the sound barrier when he tested the X-1 in October 1947, although the feat was not announced to the public until 1948.

His second wife, Victoria, confirmed to CNN Monday night that Yeager had passed after she tweeted from Yeager's verified Twitter account that the World War II flying ace had died.

    • Even though he was more of the hero to my parents' generation (even older really), I always admired Yeager. This is a guy who broke the sound barrier with broken ribs and who refused to put his name in the hat for the first round of astronauts because he wouldn't pilot anything a monkey could fly. A real man's man.

Tommy "Tiny" Lister -- famous for playing intimidating, but lovable tough guys in films like "Friday" -- has died ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell us they got a call to the actor's Marina Del Rey apartment Thursday, just before 3 PM, for an unconscious male. Our sources say Tommy was not transported to the hospital, as he was pronounced dead on the scene.

It's goofy fun. Lister actually made several appearances out and in ring after the movie as Zeus in WWF, but IIRC, they were all in tag teams because he wasn't really trained.

I thought he wasn't considered because they were requiring a college degree, which he didn't have.

Though I remember hearing of him voicing the opinion you mention as a reason for not wanting it (and can certainly believe it was not just sour grapes).

No. It's true. He wouldn't have made the cut for Mercury but as far as I know, he never tried.

                      • The manager of my LCS was telling another member how today is her father's birthday (he's sixty). She also mentioned how his father had passed away very recently but the family really couldn't travel for either occasion due to the pandemic. I didn't ask much about it (she did warn that her father wouldn't be comfortable with people talking to him about his father passing when the other member said he'd send the owner a happy birthday message), so I don't know how old he was when he passed.

His death was not COVID-19 related.

                            • I honestly didn't know le Carré had been alive this long. He long outlived Fleming, whose work he seemed to despise.

Tony Award-winning Broadway legend Ann Reinking, an actor, dancer and choreographer, died on Saturday night in Washington, her sister-in-law Dahrla King told Variety. She was 71.

“The world and our family have lost a vibrant, amazing talent and beautiful soul. Ann was the heart of our family and the life of the party,” her family said in a statement on Monday. “She was visiting our brother in Washington state when she went to sleep and never woke up. We will miss her more than we can say. Heaven has the best choreographer available now. I’m sure they are dancing up a storm up there! Annie, we will love and miss you always!!!”
