Irv Cross, a Pro Bowl cornerback who would become the first Black man to work as a full-time sports analyst on national television, died Sundday near his home in Roseville, MN. He was 81.

His death was announced by both CBS Sports and the Philadelphia Eagles, his former NFL team. A cause was not disclosed.

“Irv was a pioneer who made significant contributions to the storied history and tradition of CBS Sports and, along with Phyllis George and Brent Musburger, set the standard for NFL pregame shows with The NFL Today,” CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus said in a statement. “He was a true gentleman and a trailblazer in the sports television industry and will be remembered for his accomplishments and the paths he paved for those who followed.”

Fred Segal, who was a fashion icon in Los Angeles for more than 60 years, has died because of complications from a stroke, his representatives confirmed Friday. He was 87.

“In 1961, Fred Segal created a retail scene that defined Los Angeles fashion and sparked a revolutionary shift in style that has transcended the last six decades. Fred Segal pioneered the shop-in-shop concept and experiential retail, resulting in a brand built on heritage, inclusivity and love that changed the face of retail forever,” read a statement.

Ronald Pickup, who appeared in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and its sequel among more than 150 film, TV and stage credits spanning a half-century, died Wednesday after a long illness. He was 80. His agent confirmed the news to the BBC today.

Pickup played Norman Cousins in John Madden’s 2011 romantic dramedy The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, sharing a SAG Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture with Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel and others. He returned for 2015’s The Second Best Exotic Hotel.

Peter S. Davis, the producer of the popular cult Highlander franchise, died in his sleep February 21 at home in Calabasas, CA, his son, Epic magazine co-founder Joshua Davis, told Deadline. He was 79.

Davis began his career as a Wall Street lawyer and launched his own firm in his 20s before heading to Hollywood in 1977. He produced more than 20 films during his career, including the early Brad Pitt starrer Cutting Class (1988), Joe Pesci’s Family Enforcer aka Death Collector (1976), and Sam Peckinpah’s last film The Osterman Weekend (1983). He worked with Bob Shaye and Bill Panzer to produce New Line Cinema’s first film, Stunts starring Robert Forster.

His death was announced by his husband Bill Rosenfield.

Vernon Jordan, a civil rights leader and close adviser to former President Bill Clinton, died Monday evening. He was 85.

A cause of death was not immediately released.

Jordan died peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and family, Jordan's niece Ann Walker confirmed to CNN.

According to Walker, Jordan had his favorite dinner and dessert -- chocolate chip ice cream -- before he went to bed.

Singer, songwriter and percussionist Bunny Wailer, an icon of reggae music, died in Kingston, Jamaica, on Tuesday morning. He was 73 years old. Wailer was a founding member of The Wailers, alongside Bob Marley and Peter Tosh.

His death was reported initially by Jamaica's Observer newspaper, which said that he had been unwell since enduring a second stroke in July 2020.

WWE announced the death of legendary professional wrestling promoter Jim Crockett Jr. at the age of 76 on Thursday.

Crockett's death was first announced Wednesday by Rock 'n' Roll Express member Robert Gibson on Facebook: "Rest In Peace Jim Crockett, Jr. You will be missed by so many." ...
Crockett Jr. took over Jim Crockett Promotions from his father, Jim Crockett Sr., upon his death in 1973. Crockett Jr. served three terms as NWA president from 1980 to 1991 and eventually began referring to JCP as the NWA.
The Charlotte, North Carolina, native eventually sold JCP to Ted Turner in 1988, at which point JCP became World Championship Wrestling or WCW.

Crockett acquired several NWA-related territories during his time as owner of JCP, and he also helped cultivate some of the biggest stars, events and ideas in wrestling history.

Among the performers who reached new heights under Crockett were "Nature Boy" Ric Flair and fellow Four Horsemen members Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard and Barry Windham, as well as Dusty Rhodes, The Road Warriors, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and Harley Race . . .

I don't think so.

The Crocketts actually had better talent that Vince did, but his shows were slicker and more professionally produced because Vince copied everything World Class Wrestling was doing in Texas. I'm posting a link to a great documentary about World Class in the Videos forum. Even someone who knows or cares nothing about pro wrestling will probably find it engrossing.

Joan Weldon, stage actress and a Warner Bros. contract player in the 1950s who achieved lasting sci-fi fame in the creature feature giant ant classic Them!, died Feb. 11 at her home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was 90.

Her death was only recently announced by her family. A cause was not specified, but the family notes that she “passed away peacefully” at home.

Norton Juster, the celebrated children's author who fashioned a world of his own in the classic “The Phantom Tollbooth” and went on to write such favorites as “The Dot and the Line” and “Stark Naked,” has died at 91.

Juster's death was confirmed Tuesday by a spokesperson for Random House Children's Books, who did not immediately provide details. Juster's friend and fellow author Mo Willems tweeted Tuesday that Juster “ran out of stories” and died “peacefully” the night before.

Roger Mudd, the longtime political correspondent and anchor for NBC and CBS who once stumped Sen. Edward Kennedy by simply asking why he wanted to be president, has died. He was 93.

CBS News says Mudd died Tuesday of complications of kidney failure at his home in McLean, Virginia.
