    Lou Ottens, the Dutch inventor of the cassette tape, the medium of choice for millions of bedroom mix tapes, has died, said Philips, the company where he also helped develop the compact disc.

    Ottens died Saturday at age 94, Philips confirmed.

      Cliff Simon, who played the villain Ba’al on the long-running “Stargate SG-1” series, died after a kiteboarding accident at Topanga Beach in California, his wife announced Thursday. He was 58.

      “There is a gaping hole where he once stood on this earth,” Colette Simon wrote on Facebook. “He was and always will be the love of my life and there is unimaginable heartbreak.”

          Sir Jackie Stewart has said “there will never be another Murray Walker” following the death of the legendary Formula One commentator.

          The passing of Walker aged 97, whose remarkable broadcasting career spanned more than half a century, was announced on Saturday evening.

          Walker’s unique, high-octane style will forever be ingrained in British sporting culture.

            Marvelous Marvin Hagler, who dominated boxing's middleweight division in the 1980s, has died at the age of 66, his wife Kay Hagler said on Saturday.

            The cause of death was not immediately known. Celebrity website TMZ reported Hagler was taken to hospital in New Hampshire on Saturday with chest pains and trouble breathing.

            Hagler, who legally changed his name to Marvelous in 1982, posted a record of 62-3-2 and ruled supreme until his reign as undisputed middleweight champion came to a controversial end in 1987 with a loss to Sugar Ray Leonard.

              Hagler truly lived up to his nickname. He could not be discouraged and never took a backward step. There has never been anyone like him.

                Trevor Peacock, who played Jim Trott in The Vicar of Dibley, has died at the age of 89. Peacock who appeared in many British shows, from EastEnders to Jonathan Creek, had dementia.

                A statement on behalf of his family said: “Trevor Peacock, actor, writer and song-writer, died aged 89 on the morning of 8 March from a dementia-related illness.”

                • This is the fight of Hagler's that everybody talks about. It might not be the best one, but it's short and action-packed.

                  Thomas Hearns made a huge blunder in choosing to slug with Hagler. He was a savage puncher, but even he couldn't have knocked out Hagler without bringing a baseball bat into the ring. The only way to beat Hagler was on points, and Hearns should have fought him accordingly.

                    While accepting his anime achievement award at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2021 tonight, Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki announced that one of the pioneers of anime and a mentor to some of the greatest anime creators ever, Yasuo Otsuka passed away this morning at the age of 89.

                    Suzuki thanked his mentor in his speech, saying, "The person who has helped me get here the most is Yasuo Otsuka-san, who passed away this morning, which, for me, made today deeply meaningful. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to him. May he rests in peace."

                      Actor Yaphet Kotto, best known for his roles in “Alien,” “Live and Let Die” and “Midnight Run,” died Sunday at the age of 81, his wife announced Monday.

                      In a social media post shared on Kotto’s Facebook page, Tessie Sinahon said she was “saddened and still in shocked of the passing of my husband Yaphet of 24 years.”

                          He died on Wednesday from heart complications at a hospital in Dar es Salaam, Samia Suluhu Hassan said in an address on state television.

                          Magufuli had not been seen in public for more than two weeks, and rumours have been circulating about his health.

                            Boston Marathon icon Dick Hoyt passed away Wednesday morning. He was 80 years old.

                            Hoyt became a Boston Marathon fixture over the past three decades beginning in 1980. He ran the Boston Marathon annually with his son, Rick, who is quadriplegic and has cerebral palsy. Dick and Ricky Hoyt completed 32 Boston Marathons together. Their final race together was in 2014.
