Jerry Remy, the man who soundtracked decades of summers for Boston Red Sox fans, has reportedly died at 68. Remy, a longtime Red Sox broadcaster and former baseball player, was being treated for lung cancer.

Remy was a player before he was a broadcaster. The second baseman spent the first three years of his career with the then-California Angels, then would play for the Red Sox for the next seven years, ending his career in Boston in 1984.

Four years later, Remy was hired by NESN, starting a decades-long career as the voice of the Red Sox, a career that would lead to his induction in the Red Sox Hall of Fame as both a player and a broadcaster. He had many legendary calls, but his narration of a fan getting pizza thrown at him epitomizes why many fans loved him.

Longtime TV news anchor Jovita Moore died Thursday night at 53 after a monthslong battle with cancer, WSB announced Friday morning.

"Jovita died overnight, seven months after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer," the station's statement said.

"Back in April doctors discovered two masses on Jovita's brain. After surgery, they diagnosed her with glioblastoma, the most common type of brain cancer," WSB said. There is no cure, said the statement.

Moore had been with Channel 2 Action News since 1998, where she anchored evening newscasts, WSB said. Before moving to Atlanta, the native New Yorker was on the air at WMC-TV in Memphis and KFSM in Fayetteville and Fort Smith, Arkansas, where she started her career, WSB said.

Dr. Aaron T. Beck, whose brand of pragmatic, thought-monitoring psychotherapy became the centerpiece of a scientific transformation in the treatment of depression, anxiety and many related mental disorders, died on Monday at his home in Philadelphia. He was 100.

His death was confirmed by Alex Shortall, an executive assistant at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy in Bala Cynwyd, Pa., outside Philadelphia. Dr. Beck’s daughter Dr. Judith Beck is its president.

Dr. Beck was a young psychiatrist trained in Freudian analysis when, in the late 1950s, he began prompting patients to focus on distortions in their day-to-day thinking, rather than on conflicts buried in childhood, as therapists typically did. He discovered that many people generated what he called “automatic thoughts,” unexamined assumptions like “I’m just unlucky in love” or “I’ve always been socially inept,” which can give rise to self-criticism, despair and self-defeating attempts to compensate, like promiscuity or heavy drinking.

Linda Carlson, who starred in the short-lived 1970s TV series Westside Medical and Kaz before becoming a familiar recurring actor on Newhart, Steven Bochco’s Murder One and the television adaptation of Clueless, died Oct. 26 in Gaylordsville, CT. She was 76.

Her family said the cause of death was ALS.

Born in Knoxville, TN, Carlson moved to New York to attend graduate school at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and soon after began appearing Off Broadway and, in 1973, on Broadway in the Otto Preminger-directed revival of Erich Maria Remarque’s Full Circle.

Dean Stockwell, “The Boy With Green Hair” who grew up to become one of the most beloved adult character actors of his generation, has died. The four-time “Quantum Leap” Emmy nominee and 1989 Oscar nominee for “Married to the Mob” was 85.

The accomplished actor and visual artist with more than 70 years’ worth of credits on his résumé passed peacefully at his home in Taos, New Mexico, of natural causes, his reps have confirmed.

Born Robert Dean Stockwell in 1936, the Hollywood native got his start in a series of supporting MGM child actor parts throughout the ’40s, including 1945’s “Anchors Aweigh” with Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly, 1947’s “Gentleman’s Agreement” opposite Gregory Peck and a starring role in Joseph Losey’s 1948 Technicolor sleeper hit “The Boy With Green Hair,” which made him a cult icon of sorts.

                • Quantum Leap was a terrific show and I followed it to the end back in the day. Sad to lose anyone, but glad to hear he made it to 85.

We could only be so lucky to hit 85.

Freaky. Is that a Freudian slip? I'm going to go ahead and fix that one lest someone think I'm suicidal or something.

Gavan O'Herlihy, an Irish actor best known for his portrayal of the eldest Cunningham sibling, Chuck, on the U.S. sitcom Happy Days, has died in Britain at the age of 70, his agent said.

"He was a wonderful actor with a long and distinguished career in film, television, and theatre," Michael Emptage said in a statement to People.com Friday.

"Gavan was admired and respected for his directness, his sincerity, and his honesty -- he is greatly missed by all who knew him and most particularly by his adoring wife and family."

His brother, Cormac O'Herlihy, told Variety the actor died in Bath, England, on Sept. 15.

I went looking on Netflix for a few of these. Started with Anchors Aweigh and ended up putting two or three other comedies on the list, then both Agreement and Green Hair are unavailable so I just made a note to find them somewhere else. Really annoying how Netflix will list stuff that they don't have.
