ACTOR and filmmaker Zalman King, who became known for his erotic work after writing and producing his breakthrough film "9 ½ Weeks," has died. He was 70.

King's son-in-law Allison Burnett says the filmmaker died Friday morning at his home in Santa Monica, Calif., after a six-year battle with cancer.

Born Zalman King Lefkovitz in 1941, King began his career as an actor in the 1960s. He and wife, Patricia Louisianna Knop, collaborated on the screenplay for "9 1/2 Weeks," which became a cult hit starring Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke.

Charlie Sheen was among the first people to pay tribute to King, taking to his Facebook page to write: "the world lost a brilliant and noble soul today. My dear friend of 40 years, Zalman King, just lost his battle with cancer. Fought like a recon marine til the bitter end. Say a prayer for his amazing wife Pat and their lovely daughters. Safe travels my friend".

He may not be an instantly recognisible name, but there’s no doubt that the work of Kenneth Wannberg has been in your ear – literally – most of your life. As the chosen music editor of John Williams from 1967 to Wannbergs retirement on 2005, he worked with the maestro on dozens of projects, from Star Wars in 1977 to their final collaboration, Steven Spielbergs Munich in 2005.

Born 28th June 1930, Wannberg started out as an assistant on South Pacific and The King And I, moving into the field of music editing where he made his name. Wannberg was also a composer himself, working on dozens of films including The Philadelphia Experiment and Blame It On Rio, but his work with Williams will be what he is best remembered for, an essential member of his team and a huge part of making iconic music that will outlast us all.

Ken Wannberg passed away on 26th January age 91, and Fantha Tracks send their condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

Howard Hesseman, enshrined in pop culture history for his role as radio disc jockey Dr. Johnny Fever on CBS sitcom "WKRP in Cincinnati," has died at 81.

The actor scored two Emmy nominations as best supporting actor for his role on the show, which ran from 1978 to 1982. He also played architect Sam Royer, Ann Romano's second husband and Barbara's father-in-law, on "One Day at a Time," and went on to star in "Head of the Class" as history and social studies teacher Charlie Moore in the '80s.

His manager Robbie Kass confirmed Sunday to USA TODAY that Hesseman died on Saturday in Los Angeles from complications of colon surgery, calling him a "groundbreaking talent" and lifelong friend, "whose kindness and generosity was equaled by his influence and admiration to generations of actors and improvisational comedy throughout the world."

New Jersey's beloved weather-predicting groundhog — Milltown Mel — has died. The animal prognosticator passed away on Sunday, days before he was supposed to make his annual Groundhog Day appearance on Feb. 2.

On Sunday, the groundhog's official Facebook page confirmed Milltown Mel's death.

"We Wranglers are sad to report that Milltown Mel recently crossed over the rainbow bridge," the post began.

"Considering the average lifespan of a groundhog is about 3 years, that is not such a shock, but Mel left us at a tough time of year, when most of his fellow groundhogs are hibernating ... so no babies will be available to replace him until this Spring," the post continued.

Yeah, I just saw this. Bob Wall (82) was the real deal. He was a 9th level black belt and hired the fighting extras in EtD. He trained Michael Jai White, Schwarzenegger, and Elvis, was friends with Bruce Lee, and got jobs for Jim Kelly and Chuck Norris. Respect.

Italian actor Monica Vitti has died, aged 90.

Vitti’s death was announced by writer, director and politician Walter Veltroni on behalf of Vitti’s partner, Roberto Russo.

The film star, who shot to fame in the 1960s, had been battling Alzheimers disease for two decades.

Vitti was best known for her roles in films by director Michelangelo Antonioni, including L’Avventura (1960), Red Desert (1964), L’Eclisse (1962) and La Notte (1961),

Her co-stars over the years included Michael Caine, Terence Stamp, Richard Harris and Dirk Bogarde.

After her string of films with Antonioni, she made a move to comedies and regularly worked with Mario Monicelli.

This guy very publicly told the governor to kiss his ass. I think it's OK to mention that.

It's like a boxer talking all kinds of mad trash, then getting the hell beaten out of him. Except it's much worse, because this is life and death.
