Lata Mangeshkar, one of India's most venerated singers who sang tens of thousands of songs in her lifetime, has died at the age of 92.

She had been admitted to a hospital in Mumbai city in January after testing positive for Covid-19.

The doctor who treated her said she died of multi-organ failure.

Mangeshkar had an extraordinary career spanning over half a century, singing more than 30,000 songs across 36 languages.

But it was her work in Bollywood, India's Hindi film industry, that made her a national icon.

Sister Janet Mead, a Catholic nun who devoted her life to the homeless, the Aborigines and other disadvantaged people in her native Australia and became a global sensation as a chart-topping pop star in 1974 with a rocked-up version of the Lord’s Prayer died Jan. 26 in Adelaide. She was reported to be 83 or 84.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Adelaide confirmed the death without giving a cause but friends said she had been suffering from cancer.

The Lord’s Prayer single sold more than 2 million copies worldwide. The single shot up the charts in more than 30 countries and reached No. 4 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at Easter 1974. It was nominated for a Grammy Award for best inspirational performance (nonclassical) but lost out to Elvis Presley in 1975 for his rendition of “How Great Thou Art.”

By my math, he'd have been only 24 or 25 when he worked on 2001.

I actually heard an interview with him a year ago regarding the other film he directed Brainstorm. Really interesting stuff. One of the all-time greats too. RIP!!!

                  https://www.theguardian.com/music/20...-music-dies-77

Betty Davis, the trailblazing raw funk pioneer of the 1970s who spent decades after a blistering music career out of the spotlight, has died at the age of 77.

The vocalist and ex-wife of jazz legend Miles Davis died of natural causes, according to her close friend, Danielle Maggio, an ethnomusicologist focused on Davis’s work, and the Allegheny county communications director, Amie Downs, Rolling Stone reported.

Known for her overtly sexual lyrics and raw, wild voice, Davis was an influential musician and significant figure in New York’s late-60s music scene. Nearly all her catalog was recorded between 1964 and 1975. She cut three albums in the 1970s – 1973’s Betty Davis, 1974’s They Say I’m Different and 1975’s Nasty Gal – which gained her a reputation as a cult hero for explicitness and sensuous carnality years ahead of her time.

Ian McDonald, a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter best known for his co-founding roles in both King Crimson and Foreigner, died Wednesday at the age of 75. A rep for McDonald confirmed the musician’s death, adding that McDonald “passed away peacefully on February 9, 2022 in his home in New York City, surrounded by his family.” His son reported on Facebook that the cause was cancer.

McDonald was known as one of the key architects of progressive rock, playing both saxophone and keyboards in King Crimson and co-writing its iconic 1969 debut, In the Court of the Crimson King. The record’s opening track, “21st Century Schizoid Man,” featured McDonald’s wild double-tracked alto-sax solo, which he performed the same year at a famous concert in London’s Hyde Park. He left King Crimson before the year was over, moving on to a duo project with Crimson drummer Michael Giles. He would also appear as a session musician on King Crimson’s 1975 classic, Red.

This is crazy that this happened almost three months after the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife(which I still haven't gotten around to seeing yet). At least he was alive to see the film's release and pass the franchise's legacy to his son. He's produced and directed a lot of good movies and showed that Arnold Schwarzenegger had good comedic timing. May he rest in peace and my thoughts and prayers go out to his son, family and friends. Hopefully he's reunited and laughing with Harold Ramis.
