George Pérez, the acclaimed comic book artist and writer known for his work on major DC properties, including Crisis on Infinite Earths, Wonder Woman and The Avengers, has died. He was 67.

The famed artist, who also worked on The New Teen Titans and Superman during his decades-long career, passed away on Friday peacefully at his home with his wife, Carol Flynn, and family by his side, according to a statement posted to his official Facebook page. His passing followed a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

“He was not in pain and knew he was very, very loved,” the statement said. “We are all very much grieving, but, at the same time, we are so incredibly grateful for the joy he brought to our lives. To know George was to love him, and he loved back. Fiercely and with his whole heart. The world is a lot less vibrant today without him in it.”

Pérez publicly announced his then-stage three pancreatic cancer diagnosis in December 2021, telling fans that the cancer was inoperable and doctors had given him six months to a year to live. The artist opted not to undergo treatment.

        • ^A bad time for comic book legacy. I was never a fan of Perez' style for some reason, but he was good at doing detail in group pictures and such.

Country music legend Mickey Gilley died on Saturday surrounded by family and close friends. He was 86-years-old.

The announcement comes after Gilley announced tour date cancellations on May 1, saying health issues and energy levels prevented him from being at 100 percent at his shows.

Gilley, whose career and business interests were synonymous with the Urban Cowboy movement of the 1980s, had a career that spanned seven decades and included musical hits like “Room full of roses,” and “Stand By Me,” and cameos in Urban Cowboy, the movie starring John Travolta and Debra Winger that was set at his Gilley’s nightclub.

Gilley was born March 9, 1936, in Natchez, Mississippi, and grew up in Ferriday, Louisiana. He learned to play piano at an early age. He learned the rockabilly style of playing from his first cousin, Jerry Lee Lewis, who went on to form his own successful music career.

Gino "The Duke" Cappelletti, an original member of the Boston Patriots in 1960 and a Patriots Hall of Fame wide receiver and placekicker, passed away this morning at his home with his family. Cappelletti was 89 years old.

"My heart aches after learning of Gino Cappelletti's passing this morning," said Robert Kraft, Patriots chairman and CEO. "For the first 51 years of this franchise's history, Gino contributed as an all-star player, assistant coach and broadcaster. You couldn't be a Patriots fan during that era and not be a fan of Gino's. The Patriots have had many iconic, fan-favorite players over the years. Gino was the first. I remember watching him play in 1960 and throughout his career. He was one of the AFL's biggest stars, becoming the first Patriots player to earn league MVP honors and retiring as the league's all-time leading scorer. He became the second player in franchise history to earn Patriots Hall of Fame induction and I will always believe he deserves to be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As great of a player as he was, he was an even better person and storyteller. On behalf of my family and the entire Patriots organization, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Gino's wife, Sandy, their three daughters, Gina, Cara and Christina, and their 10 grandchildren, as well as the many others who will be mourning his loss."

Cappelletti earned the American Football League's (AFL) 1964 Most Valuable Player award and was one of only three players to play in every game in the AFL's 10-year history, along with Jim Otto and George Blanda. Cappelletti finished his career as the AFL's all-time leader in points (1,100) and field goals (170).

Fred Ward, the prolific character actor with starring roles in “Tremors,” “The Right Stuff” and the second season of “True Detective,” has died, according to his publicist. He was 79.

Ward died May 8, publicist Ron Hofmann confirmed to TheWrap. No cause of death was given.

Though Ward may never have been quite a household name, his chiseled face would be highly familiar to any household that watched movies or television in the 1980s and 1990s. He made his film debut in 1979’s “Escape from Alcatraz” with Clint Eastwood, played Gus Grissom in “The Right Stuff” (1983), and had a starring role opposite Kevin Bacon in the 1990 cult classic “Tremors.”

Ah man, one of the great, hey that schlubby-lite dudes. Love that brief period where Hollywood thought that he was going to be the next best thing between Timerider and Remo Williams. He ruled in Tremors, too. RIP!!!
