  • Do you remember what life was like before the internet?

This question has been on my mind for a very long time, but especially in the last two or so weeks.

I remember playing guitar, working out in the yard and enjoying it, spending time with actual human beings in the flesh, and having a sense of bonding with my fellow man. I remember reading quite a lot of books, utilizing the full extent of my weekend to go here, there, and everywhere with friends, creating real relationships with people, and just being a human being.

This is only my opinion, but we have changed as a species. We are so uniformly programmed by the current state of technology that it almost seems life without it would drive someone utterly mad. We've really lost the human connection to each other, and I am sad about that.

I've really cut down on my internet usage since coming back home to MA from FL. I permanently deleted facebook, twitter, and all these other social sites, and basically (aside from informational sites like Wiki) I only frequent this board and Tumblr, which may as well be on its way out of my life as well. Man, I want to get back to being my old self, that didn't rely on technology to exist. Remember when we didn't have all the answers at our finger tips and life was exciting to find the answers through our own experiences with others?

    /end sad rant.

I wasn't planning on leaving this site. I probably said that wrong- I was referring to Tumblr being on it's way out. I love you guys too much to leave.

I was writing up this big, long reply about my own feelings, but the more I wrote, the more I realized it wasn't exactly relevant.

So I'll just say I'm glad that you have some more outdoorsy freedom, Doom. If it makes you feel better, go for it.

Also, I well remember life before the internet. And as much as I love how it makes life easier and brings people together, I also make conscious decisions to limit my time online. I spend WAY too much time online frequenting all the message boards that reflect all of the various things I'ma fan of. Green Lantern. The Thing. LOST. LOTR. King Kong. And on and on. Some posting and some lurking.

Because of that I don't even fucking BOTHER with facebook, tweeting, or any of that other happy horseshit. Too much cultivation of relationships with people I don't give a fuck about when I can spend that time talking with people I like about things we already have in common. Facebook is WAY too much work.

Before the internet Nerd Currency was actually worth something.

Now every fucking 19 year old on the planet can tell you what happened in every movie, comic, tv show etc from before they were born without having ever had to put any sweat equity into experiencing first hand.

If you knew that Jervis Tetch was the Mad Hatter it's because you had poured over the back issue bins, if you knew every one liner from every Simpsons episode it's because you had a blank tape in your VCR and taped every episode and watched them over and over and over again.

Fuck you younger generation! GIVE ME BACK MY COMMUNITY!

I remember having to put up with family turmoil and assholes in school, with only a couple real friends.

                      So fuck you 'pre-internet life.'

I remember days before the internet, and they DID seem like a better time, but I don't know how much of that was because there was no internet, and how much was because I was a kid. I seem to recall being a kid as more fun, on average, than being an adult...internet or no internet.
