Unions have no business existing in the modern workforce they should be abolished.

If I had a business and the ungrateful, asshat workers want a union I'll let them form it and that very day I will send out a 60 day notice telling them the business is closing up shot for good and that they are the reason why. Not because the business is doing bad but because they are ungrateful shits who want a hostile relationship with management and they don't deserve the job I am providing them.

I not a big defender of unions, by any means. My jaundiced view started when reading about a strike by grocery store workers nearby, and discovering that the baggers already made significantly more than I did, at a more demanding job, and yet were still striking for more. All too often these unions seem to be all about trying to pry out as much as they can get, not fairness to workers. And they certainly don't seem to give the slightest consideration to what is good for the business that is employing those workers, even when ignoring that can lead to worse conditions for the workers (at least the ones that get laid off).

That said, there ARE some crappy, crappy places to work, that treat their employees like garbage and take as much advantage of them as they can get away with. If unions would actually target places that really NEED their attention, versus trying to get in everywhere they can, I'd be a lot more kindly disposed toward them.

When my wife worked in the facilities department at NASA Ames as a Civil Engineer, the union was CONSTANTLY trying to get in, and it was required that they be allowed to be forever calling votes on union organization, over and over and over, until one day they finally managed to pass it. Once in, everybody had to join. And guess whether they were then required to allow endless votes to get RID of the union. There was ABSOLUTELY no need for a union in that situation.

But some of the stories I hear about places like Wal-Mart? If any employer is as bad as they are painted (and I'm not going to assume everything I've heard is true) then they could probably use some union pressure.

I'm assuming, Hybrid Lantern, that IF you owned a business, you wouldn't run it in such a way that union involvement would make sense, and that being the case, I could see getting upset about the union coming in. I know I would be. Though I think I would actually wait until the day that the union made unreasonable demands before taking the kind of drastic action you suggest. Especially since not ALL your employees would have to support a union for it to come in, and you'd be shafting ALL of them equally with your preemptive strike.

If I did run a business that it made sense for a Union to come in and destroy the place I would shoot myself in the head.

I work at a grocery store where I was forced to join the union upon being hired. The atmosphere is hostile it's management vs union and they both hate each other like the Hatfields and McCoys.

I am a vindictive asshole, you fuck with my hypothetical business I will make sure you don't work a day longer than I can get away with. If my hypothetical business fell under W.A.R.N. they get 60 day notice & if W.A.R.N. doesn't apply then they would come to work and find it locked up.

Unions = Politics, it was about politics the minute it was opened.
