I don't buy it. I have sex, and I don't pay for it. The only way to make that quote seem true is to just point at other stuff that you DO pay for and try to say that it is equivalent to paying for sex, which is ludicrous. If I take my wife out for dinner, I'm paying for DINNER, no matter what may or may not happen later.

Well, as a Christian and an elder in my church, I agree and I hope I have a higher view of marriage than that may have applied, but just to play Devil's advocate I believe those who make this argument would imply you pay with more than money. You pay when you take out the trash or listen to gossip you don't care about or take her shopping when you'd rather watch a game etc. Hopefully, you and others don't actually view marriage or other relationships as a barter-sex arrangement, but that's what this philosophy is saying. You (by and large) don't just walk up to a person and say "we will now have sex. I will never see you again, give you money, or any other investment of my time, resources, or services" and expect a positive result. In that sense, it's never "free." It always involves a commitment of money, emotion, time, resources, etc.
