We were simply talking about the aspects of dating and courtship. THOSE tendencies are driven by the need to mate, otherwise why have them? I think you all are confusing my statements as the act of sex itself, with the DESIRE for sex & mating. Which is what I'm driving at. The act itself may or may not happen, but that isn't the point. The point is the need and want to do so is the prime motivation.

Well, I added about long-time monogamy too (because I believe the trend of decreased sexual frequency is true for these people too). But I don't see how this negates my point. Again, even with marriage this would be the point. If some people date because they're looking for a future wife or husband, by your logic those people are still primarily dating for sex. They've just postponed it to a later date. Why would a couples be more and more willing to find enjoyment in each other without sex if the whole point of their dating was to get sex?

And again, in this scenario when the partner loses their ability to have sex the other partner, being motivated primarily by the desire to have sex, should become disinterested. The fact that it isn't even possible should lead them away from dating anymore.

I'm going to do something head exploding and actually agree with IonFan on this one, to an extent. Everything you do in the practice of, dare I bring up an ancient term, "courting", is all a dress up for the primal desire to have your naughty parts played with. For some, consciously, for others, subconsciously.

To me, saying that dating or going out "isn't about sex" is the same as saying "Looks don't matter". Which is easily one of the biggest crocks of bullshit that mankind has ever devised in the pursuit of trying not to feel awkward while trying to get laid or court.

All the social and cultural trappings we attach to the premise of ultimately pro-creating still has that base, primal attachment to the idea of having sex. Taking a girl out to putt-putt, while a fun activity is really only there so two people can become comfortable enough to get back to the bed and get between the sheets.
