No, it wasn't a dig at you. As mad as we both were at him, and as much as he'd done previously, what he did at that time was literally nothing, but both of us reacted as if he'd done something.
Tazer pointed out that getting the staff's attention was going pretty far, and having had time to think on the situation, I can't disagree with him. IonFan may have earned loads of enmity on the board in general and from the two of us in particular, but at that moment, what happened in the past was coloring our eyes about what was happening in the present.
I don't like having to apologize to someone like IonFan, who's encounters with me have been so consistently toxic that I can't ever describe them accurately. He makes my blood boil. He makes me see red. But what he did then, just agreeing with the general sentiment that the offending family is made up of jerks, was not something that violated the board's rules or the topic's spirit. In all honesty, it supported them, even if it clashed with his previous caustic remarks which inflamed us time and again.
I care about you, Doom. I worry about you a lot, like when you told us about that runaway boy from the town over. I know that you can handle yourself, both in real life and on the Internet, but god almighty, I just don't have it in me to watch you make a decision that could cause you pain or embarrassment if I can help it.
You had good reason, and probably always will, to despise IonFan. I won't fault you for your negativity towards him based on genuine examples of his nonsense. But I don't want to see you call down thunder from on high to smite a molehill. As much grief as he's given, that one remark about the family wasn't the source of any.
I'm not saying you shouldn't take a stand and call his nonsense out when it crops up. I'm saying that one time was one time when doing so was in nobody's best interests. He'd packed his bags the last time, and that was that, and when he came back, he toed the line, and I only saw someone I loathe in a thread I love and I lost it. I should have realized what I was doing when you threatened staff involvement, but I didn't, and then the Picture thread exploded a thousand-fold worse and the matter was put aside until now.
It isn't easy for me to say any of this, to IonFan or you, Doom. But I value our friendship too much for me to stay silent about it.
