I read that it happens when nerves in the roof of your mouth get too cold, so to "cure" it, you should press your tongue against the roof of your mouth to warm it up. Never had occasion to test this, though.

Here's an article from science daily on it, but it doesn't mention people being more susceptible. But this one says migraine sufferers get it more.

Your tongue, I think, has a lot more blood vessels in it (strongest muscle in your body I've heard, and I expect that requires a good blood supply). As I understand it, it warms up pretty quick.
