  • Hell just froze over: comiXology now DRM-free!

    http://comixology.tumblr.com/post/92...rm-free-backup

comiXology is now offering drm-free comics (including download as pdf/cbz) with all publishers that allow it. This is almost every publisher except Marvel, DC and IDW (wankers!).

Although their license still states that you only lease the comics from the publisher and don't own them in reality you now have offline access to your comics, store them on any device, your harddisk/ssd, burn them on an optical medium or usb drive.

I might get more comics digitally now. Actually I will.

By the way this isn't just with comics bought from now an, it's with all the comics you ever aquired from comiXology:

Good news, but still has serious problems.

    1) Prices are still far too high.

    2) The DRM-free files are apparently digitally watermarked. (That bothers some folks, I know.)

    3) Marvel and DC aren't on board.

I still haven't recovered my comics from them and they haven't answered my e-mail.

I don't have Twitter, but thanks. I'll e-mail them again with more specifics. It looks like I might've had multiple accounts under one e-mail, but I'm not sure.

Well, I think I'm done with comixology and digital comics. I heard back from Comixology but they could only find 1 more comic under any of my 4 e-mail addresses. They offered to restore every title one by one if I provided screenshots of the iTunes receipts (which probably go back 2 years at this point), but now iTunes won't let me log on to their store (after multiple attempts). I don't know what the heck is going on! I hate computers.

UPDATE: just to be fair, my books mysteriously re-appeared. Not sure if it was tech's help (doubt it, since he said he couldn't find them and never e-mailed me otherwise) or because I re-signed into iTunes, but they're back for now.

I still don't see how to access the store on the new app, though. Does anyone have Comixology for iOS? How do you buy new comics in the updated app?

You can't anymore. ComiXology got rid of in-app purchases since Apple takes 30% of all in-app purchases. You'll have to buy them from the ComiXology webstore and sync with your app moving forward.
