Based on the cost I found for incarceration in Florida, it would be a little over half that ($21K per year, not $40K), but still, it seems a lot. But then the question becomes, do we let criminals that are very likely to re-offend, based on prior evidence, roam free because it costs too much to hold them? Maybe the answer should be yes in some cases, but no politician is ever going to say that, and they are the ones who decide.

Let's face it. This guy sounds like he is likely to end up back in prison even if we give him a shorter sentence this time. Maybe it is cheaper to keep him there longer than to keep bringing him back there over and over? I dunno.

If you don't think the sentence is too long, then you should think that spending $800K to lock him up for 20 years is a profligate and irrational use of the taxpayers' money.

After 14 felonies and 31 misdemeanors, he should serve seven years for this. But not twenty. If the length of the sentence doesn't seem excessive to anyone, then the cost of locking him up for that long should.

I'm not sure something like that could even be accessed on the internet in Iran. Which is not to say that the Saudis aren't messed up, of course. Just that Iran is not exactly a nice place, either.

I've never heard of anyone in Iran being arrested for this, or being publicly crucified by the authorities either. And women can drive cars in Iran. Yet we love the Saudis and hate the Iranians.

Yeah, it's a completely different realm and most Christians I personally know are aware of that (or at least would admit it if pressed). In America, being a Bible-believing Christian is more about having an unpopular minority philosophy (more so in certain parts of the country than others). In China, North Korea, Nigeria, and some other hot spots, it can mean imprisonment, torture, and possible death. I've met or personally known (especially in Nigeria) missionaries and pastors to those places and they all live with that possibility.

Oh look, it's the War on Christianity that paranoid people have been praying for. And, gasp!, it's not in the US, it's in China.
