The Legion Of Heroes

Just curious if there are any fans of the Legion on here, and interested to see everybody's opinion of the Legion. Andrew, Nived and myself came to the consensus on the flashchat that it's a weak cast that we don't really consider to be canonical in the DCU. I personally see them as a Deus Ex Machina in a lot of things and honestly wish they were either left to their own (stay the hell out of my JLA comics!), or were just dropped completely. I don't know ANYBODY that reads the comic.

So anybody else have feelings on the subject?

(Also feel free to discuss any part of the DCU you feel sucks or should be dropped/changed.)

I have zero interest in the Legion, even the premise for such a thing is stupid, and really I hate that is where the DCU is headed in the future. How many times have they rearranged things in the DCU and still every single future has an Fing Legion? how about one where there are no heroes other then the Corps! How about that, Didio?

I take the opposite stance from GLJIMT: Ive been a long-time fan of the LSH (GDS-DS ftw baby!!) and even given that this current run of the book w/Shooter hasnt been *stellar* as most would have hoped I still look forward to its continued existence since it brought to intergalactic stories to the DCU (ESPECIALLY during the Kyle-era when there was no Corps).

I didn't say I don't find them canonical, I just said that I'd like to avoid them whenever possible. In my opinion they're campy, they're silly, there's oodles of them, they're completely non-accessible to new fans and it's difficult for me to imagine readers' invested interest in them when they've already been completely rebooted twice in only the past 15 years alone.

It's also difficult to imagine something in DC I like less. Maybe Captain Marvel evokes the same, "Kill it, make it go away" feeling in me, but not quite.

I have the same sentiment about the current JLA -title; I say switch that 1 out, and replace it with JLA Classified (which I oddly enuff dont even READ but hear more positive things about)...........

That's very difficult to believe, since JLA Classified has been cancelled for many, many months now.

I never got into legion, when I 1st started to collect I could never figure out the history, and when I finally did BAM!!!!! it was something different. So as an abstract, its cool, but I don't buy the titles.

I love the Legion of Super-Heroes!! Needless to say, a series with as much history as the Legion is going to have its ups (Levitz '80's era, Giffen's relaunch, DnA's relaunch), and its downs. (right now) I joined somehwere in the middle and was able to buy up a crap load of cheap back issues to fill me in on the history. (which isn't really relevant now anyway) It's only convoluted if you try to address the overarching continuity of the pre-boot (original) Legion, due to the many retcons. (which was mostly wiped away by the reboot)

Anyway, while there are a ton of characters, it usually means there's something for everyone! (my favorite is WILDFIRE!)
