Tell me when there is a trailer. I don't do well with following news, since half the time I do the films in question never get produced (Akira, Devil May Cry, Thundercats, etc.)

I'm hoping it gets that far. Universal and Red Eagle Entertainment has been unusually quiet over the last several months about this movie. Which normally doesn't bode well. If done right this could be bigger than Lord Of The Rings, however doing it right is the biggest problem.

LOTR was huge and amazing... but it was in no way "done right."

Well Universal has until August 2012 to actually start production on the Eye Of The World movie or they lose their rights to the property.

Which honestly has me more than half convinced their going to place the rights in "Turn Around" (industry slang for selling the rights to recoup some part of their development investment) and we won't see anything of WoT on film ever.

Maybe Warner will pick it up... with Potter ending this year, and The Hobbit closing in for 2012 and 2013, they're gonna need a new stay in their Fantasy Lit blockbuster department... what better than The Wheel of Time to come in and fill the void for 2014 and beyond?

While I would go see a WoT movie, I have honestly thought it would be better adapted as a long run television series. Simply because of the sheer scale of the series. With Lord Of The Rings they were only dealing with 3 books, with Harry Potter 7, Wheel Of Time when finished will have 14 books in the main series and 1 prequel. That's a ton of story and considering how long it takes to make a movie it's completely unrealistic to expect to see each novel made into a film, but you can not condense books into a single movie unless you cut away so much of the story that it becomes unrecognizable.

A long run tv series would be better that would allow them to have say 20+ episodes per season would allow them to do 1 novel per season give or take and give the story the time and scope and depth it needs.

I'm completely against TV series adaptations of novels ever since Legend of the Seeker destroyed my beloved Sword of Truth series.
(And even attempted your ideal of a season per book by trying to tell the first book in the first season and the second in the next.)

Well Legend Of The Seeker was adapted badly from word one. The story was changed the characters were off. And the budget was WAY to low for a adaptation of a series like Sword Of Truth. Plus sadly they gave it to Sam Rami to adapt and I'm sorry it all looked and felt to much like Heracles and Xena which he was a producer/director of.

Budget constraint is part of TV, thats the thing. Granted the writing of the adaptation could've and should've been better, but I can't imagine anything else being done any better on TV. Thus why I'm against the idea, now. I was excited for Legend of the Seeker originally, but I was completely insulted by the crap we got from it. I'm sorry, but I just no longer believe it to be a suitable adaptative medium.

Have you seen Game Of Thrones HBO has released? It's a much higher quality adaptation of a fantasy novel than what LOS was. And something like that would be great for WoT.

HBO is a premium channel and their seasons are never 20+ episodes, though.

They use something like two full (22 ep) seasons' worth of budget for one 10-14 episode season.

I won't argue that, simply because its true. But I think it might be the only way to get a good film adaptation of the series.
