  • Article discussing the history of comics circa 1990

Comic Book Resources has an article that I think will be of interest to anyone who wants to learn more about what happened in the recent past that has shaped the way the industry and market are today.

The article can be found here.

    Enjoy.

Yeah. And sadly we have DC to blame for one of the sickest stunts ever. When variant covers stopped working, does anyone remember their relaunch of Batman and The Outsiders (titled this time Outsiders) where most of the story was the same but there were I think about six pages that were different depending on which version you got. Fortunately the backlash was such that they never did that again.

I remember picking up a comic book in a supermarket and the guy checking me out proudly proclaiming that he had a bunch of number one issues of Hulk 2099 and they were all sealed. It was all I could do not to deck the fool.

I'm hoping in future articles the author will cover the day that Marvel destroyed Capital City distribution and for the first time ever showed how little respect they had for anything other than their bottom line by going to an exclusive distribution deal with Diamond.

Yeah, Outsiders #1 Alpha and Omega.

As far as I remember, DC never did that again. But Top Cow pulled the same shit with Fathom #1, whereas Marvel went that route with Slingers #1.

Yeah I had forgotten about slingers. Well fortunately none of them ever to the best of my knowledge repeated it. Thank god.
