Hi all!
I was obsessed with comics as a kid, and had around two thousand of them neatly bagged, boarded & boxed by the time I stopped collecting at the age of 15. For some reason, my interest just seemed to fizzle out at that stage of my life. I sold off the comics that were worth much of anything at my local shop, and gave the rest of them away to younger cousins and fellow collector friends.
Now, all these years later (I turned 31 in '08), I've suddenly found myself with a rekindled passion for comics. I went hunting around and visited several local comic shops, looking for a place I felt comfortable sinking unreasonable sums of money into, and found what I hope will be my new "home away from home" at one of the Atomic Comic locations here in Phoenix.
Ironically, my favorite hero as a kid was always Batman. My walls were plastered with his posters, I wore T-shirts with his image emblazoned on them all the time, and collected his issues fanatically. But after picking up a wide-ranging stack of the latest comics recently, I found myself pulled in the strongest by the stories and characters I encountered in Green Lantern and Green Lanter Corps.
I liked Green Lantern when I was a kid, but I only picked up his comics every once in a while. He never really sparked my interest that much. But now that I'm getting back into comics as an adult, the character has truly captured my imagination.
I've picked up the three most recent issues of Green Lantern, as well as the "Green Lantern: No Fear" compilation of the first six issues. And it's my goal to pick up all the back issues, little by little as my budget permits. I've also snagged the three most recent issues of Green Lantern Corps, and managed to find copies of the first and second issues of the series at my new local shop. I also plan to slowly fill in all the gaps in that series as opportunity and budget permit.
So here I am, a guy who used to love comics -- but only "like" Green Lantern -- returning to the fold with a few more years under his belt, and a much bigger interest in the Ring-Swingin' Champ.
