  • The Return Of Guy Gardner Warrior. Kinda.

Guy Gardner--From Blue Collar To Blackest Night.
Forget The Super Powers-Get To Know The Guy.

There's a Herculean task being performed that you may or may not know about. Chuck Minsker, former TV news and children's show producer, has been turning the a giant wheel on a daily basis for a while now, (kinda like Conan did in the Arnold movie) the results are a daily comic book review, 365 days a year. He does daily reviews of the latest comics and weekly trips into Classic Comics as well.

This week Chuck Minsker dips into his Classic Comic Book Review Vault and hauls out Guy Gardner: Warrior #40 by Me, Beau Smith, Aaron Lopresti, Dan Davis and Tony Daniel. I wanted to share this review with those of you that were friendly with my two year run on Guy Gardner: Warrior and those of you that never had the chance to really get to know the personality of Guy Gardner.

Guy Gardner: Warrior #40 is a stand alone story (A rare item today in super hero comics) with no tagged event. It's got Gorilla Grodd, Lady Blackhawk, Buck Wargo And The Monster Hunters and perhaps Guy Gardner's greatest foe...his mother.

Please check out the review and make Chuck Minsker's site a daily stop for your entertainment reading.

      You are most welcome.

As far as EMERALD WARRIORS....I just spoke with Eddie Berganza at DC. Not much I can really say. I'll let DC handle the P.R. end.

      Your amigo,

      Beau

Thanks Beau, that was short but to the point. GUY always puts his shoulder to the grindstone and usually has to work twice as hard at being a "Hero".

You really did change GUY for the better during the Warrior days. I'm happy to say i own the entire run, though i wasn't too excited by the powers, i really enjoyed the ride and your portrayal of GUY.

So can you tease anything about your GL annual or if you'll do some guest writing on Emerald Warriors?

How about GUY vs ..... ?
:On worlds afar or scenes at home, wherever the cause should make me roam, always i vow to fight the good fight, to combat evil with all green lanterns might!:

Thank you. I was never crazy about the powers either, but DC wanted him to have some. My main goal was to give him a personality and make him likeable. I wanted the readers...and myself...to like Guy.

Can't say much on the other stuff. Gotta leave all that up to DC.

            Thank you!

            Beau

I just read about the upcoming new Emerald Warrior line and am pumped for it. I only got into green lantern about a year ago and have been loving every issue of the current run of GL and GLC. Guy is my fav character and am looking forward to his own book.

I'd love to see some more of him and the "The Corpse".

Beau was the first writer to really flesh out Gardner, and what's really amazing is, he managed to do it in a single panel in issue #22, where Guy says, "The super-hero biz is a strange one. Ya got a lot of Boy Scout types, some jerks, and some that border on just plain psycho. I always saw myself as the blue collar hero. The one that would block for ya on third and long."

What a revelation! Here was a hero who was willing to do the dirty work to get a job done, and had fun doing it. He was a normal person doing extraordinary things.

In other words, a regular joe. I miss that Guy.
So do I. The new, post-Rebirth Guy kinda grew on me after a while, but I miss that Guy. With or without the Vuldarian powers.

On a related note, I miss that Tony Daniel as well. I liked the exaggerated style he had back then a lot more than the new, tamer one he displayed on Teen Titans and the Batbooks.

The world of comic books changes every year and as they say, what goes around comes around. We may see a lot of characters at DC return in a way that has been set up before. The best of the old with a taste of the new.

Might not be a bad thing at all.
