  • Why no collectable love for Guy?

Seriously, no busts and no statues. I have Guy as part of the Legacy statue, the snowball, and the Eaglemoss figure, but no bust or statues!?! Even Jade has a bust, even John has a statue (yeah its from JLU, but it still counts). Guy has the second Earthling to have a GL ring (well third {Tales of the GLC back story}or fourth if you include Alan) and a yellow ring bearer. Maybe Emerald Warriors might lead to him getting a bust or maybe Red Lantern Guy for the Blackest Night set.

There was a gorgeous brazillian import statue of Guy in the 90s. Really hard to find.

Looking at my GL collection, I've got quite a few Guy products. They squeak him in here and there, and over the years they ARE starting to add up.

Until Rebirth and the rest, Guy was treated pretty much as a running joke. It's only now he's finally receiving a measure of respect.

I wouldn't say he was a joke until Rebirth. The Warrior series was very good, even if you don't like the Vuldarian powers. And his portrayal in Crisis and GLC was as a Renegade ... or near Renegade.

FYI: Legend of the Green Flame established a dude from China as the first Earthling to wield a ring (barring time travel stories of course :P). But if it makes you feel better, his earliest stories had him as a mysterious "Lantern that almost was".

Mostly. He was treated mostly as a joke. Warrior was an exception. He was finally treated as something other than a joke for a change. But until then, he'd just been an ignorant, brain-damaged jackass with a ring. Well, ever since coming out of the coma anyhow. Before them he was quite a nice guy. Now he's still a jerk, but a more bearable one.

I'll agree that JLA and Volume 3 made him comedy relief. But I can't agree that he was a joke in Volume 2. He was a legit threat about then, his brain damage making him unstable in the dangerous way more than the funny way.

I dunno if you can count an entire series as an exception. Sure he got second billing after Warrior bit the bucket, but that's to be expected of a character who no longer has a book. If I tally it up I think his joke years were the exception.

Warrior wasn't a terrible series, just a okay series in my opinion.

The Thing about his JLI days is he's not presented consistantly even then. no, I'm not talking about the Angry Guy/Sweet Guy bit they did.
Guy gets into it with Batman batman decks him with one punch
sometime later Guy pays Kilowog a visit and They completely tear down the GL Citadel in a free for all.
Kilowog is Twice as big as Bats in two directions (if not three) and is probably at least ten times as strong.
One of his "light" punches should be at least twice as hard as one of Batman's serious cold-cockers!!!!

Batman caught Guy off-guard. Guy was cocky (as usual), and got knocked the fuck out as a result. On the other hand, he tackled Kilowog while fully aware, and having the backing and protection of the Power Ring. The 2 situations aren't remotely the same.

Guy was great in The Road Back. I'm sure Gerard Jones didn't mean for it to happen, but he ended up totally overshadowing Hal.
