  • John Stewart vs. Kyle Rayner

Place your bets... "War of the Green Lanterns" Part 2 will showcase these two lanterns going at it... who do you believe will come out on top?

    John Stewart

    OR

    Kyle Rayner

I'm going with John since Kyle recently got beat down by Sinestro and before than the Weaponer... I think John is going to put in work with some tank, chopper, and Uzi constructs.

Kyle is a beast too, but I don't think he's going to win this fight.

Is there a reason Kyle uses the robot constructs?

I hope John wins cause that would be the 1st thing he's done in awhile; plus I want to see half the board go in an uproar

Might as well add a poll.

My money would be on John is this was a true "battle to the end". He has more experience and is a "harder" person than Kyle is. While Kyle may be an artist, so too is John, just in a different sense. An architect must have a pretty detailed imagination to produce schematics of whatever they are building. Plus, he's a Marine, and physically stronger and tougher than Kyle is.

Gonna have to go with Kyle. He's always been a favorite of mine and I just cant see him losing.

And lets not discredit Kyle here though. He has proven his fighting skills numerous times over the years. And while John may be imaginative in a different way, I think Kyle's creativity is stronger in the sense of constructs.

He can whip up some creations that Im sure would throw John off a bit.

Well the last time they "fought" has during Homecoming and Kyle beat a not quite into the fight John. But given Kyle's track record, he died in Blackest Night and got owned by Sinestro in Brightest Day and John is coming off a huge win over Xanshi. I can see Kyle going 0 for 3 in big events.

Kyle's not a pushover. Sinestro is supposed to be top GL baddie, so of course he's not gonna be beaten so easily anymore. The fight was lame, but it's more of an exception than the rule. In most other cases Kyle wins out. He didn't fall for BL jade's love shitck like a putz, nor BL Alex's. He's going straight after the Weaponer, not crying about losing to Sinestro. All in all he's a good guy in a fight.

That said, though, I'm gonna have to go with Jhon. I like Kyle a lot, but Jhon has the experience and that counts for a lot in my book. Jhon isn't a pushover either. When he wants to be, he's a ruthless fighter. I tend to think his anger makes him more ruthless than Kyle when it comes to it.

Much as I want John to win, simply to restore some dignity and relevance to the character, and much as I think he probably SHOULD win (even though I like Kyle, and am not specifically rooting against him), I just don't trust that there is very much chance of John winning. I figure this will either be one of those fights that doesn't get to progress to an actual, definitive conclusion (leaving supporters on both sides arguing that their guy WOULD have won), or Kyle will win. Depending on how much they want to allow John to ever be taken seriously again, he might lose on some kind of technicality or though some kind of third-party interference, or because he realizes, during the fight, that he might be on the wrong side, so his determination falters. But my pessimism where John's handling is concerned doesn't allow me to seriously picture him decisively winning against Kyle, even if I think he should.

You're probably right. But not because Kyle will win - but because there likely won't be a winner, in any of these fights.

Sinestro and Kyle fought recently - who won? Writers always couch these sorts of conflicts with parameters that suggest it could go a different way, with just slightly different circumstances - even in the limited cases where someone does win. Clearly, Flash's one big trick is speed. And yet how many of those Flash-Superman races ended up as ties? Most of them, if I recall correctly.

Based on what I've seen each of them do with their powers in the past I would say Kyle would win (but only by the skin of his teeth). John may have been a marine but that was a long time ago not to mention the fact that he was crippled and spent a lot of time out of action.

Kyle has never stopped being a lantern for as long as he's had it (except Ion but was still active).John was victorious in the BN Xanshi thing but that had a much greater personal resonance with him. He was fighting to conquer his greatest failure. I don't see him putting as much of himself into this fight.

Also Kyle has in the past managed to contain a supernova among other things equally as badass not to mention he is able to think outside the box more than John (things like being able to use his power ring even after Traitor ground it into dust). No disrespect to John but I think Kyle wins this one.

As long as we get a decent fight with an actual conclusion to it then it should be awesome regardless of who wins. The only thing I can think of being worse than interference or them just stopping would be for one to beat the other with little to no effort.

I'd go with John on this. Experience trumps all, plus it's been documented that John has great mastery with the ring and has will that can exceed the limitations. Even if their wills were equal, John has greater physical strength and stamina with his training as a Marine.

You're right, usually they leave it vague. There have actually been a few cases in GL history where somebody was flat out beaten in a head-to-head, but only a couple of them had no real extenuating circumstances that I can think of.

During CoIE, John took on Guy in a straight-up battle of wills and won. Of course, this is back when Guy was a total jerk, so they had no problem having him lose like that. (And, shortly after that, Hal took on Guy, who had teamed up with Star Sapphire and Hector Hammond to try to take Hal down, and Hal beat all three, so yeah, Guy didn't do too hot back then.)

Other than those, as far as I can recall, even if there was a result it was left unclear whether it was repeatable, or indicative of relative power.
