I still don't get why they didn't make DeMatteis/Giffen/Maguire the 80s version of JLA Retroactive, with Morrison and Porter on the 90s issue.

Porter would have to come off the DC Online game and Morrison is writing two series, a movie and a book. While it would have been good to see, it was not the best option financially for a one shot. And to be fair, the Morrison run didnt start until the late 90s.
