Actually, the Guardians DID choose them. And they accepted (John was also chosen, and declined). They just didn't realize when they accepted that doing so meant having freaky surgery performed on them.

Though it occurs to me that even Alphas converted by Cyborg Superman would have had to have been "chosen" after the fact by the Guardians to remain in that capacity. No WAY would they have allowed anybody to retain that kind of power and authority without their approval.

This is the first issue in a long time that I actually enjoyed, although Im iffy on guys new "position",

Decent issue, but some dumb stuff knocked it down a peg. Like the Alphas' oath and Guy remembering events with Sinestro for which he was not present.

Nothing happened ... again. Guy didn't even get the rank the GotU mention. A bar fight was the big event. I don't mind a break in the action sometimes but Tomasi does too many of these "building" stories imho.
