Guy Gardner always draws a smile from me....but the whole story just reeks of the GOTU pulling his leg...and if that's the case I hope he gets majorly pissed.

I suspect they are trying to "manage" his reaction to John's arrest, get him on a shorter leash by "honoring" him, trying to appeal to his ego to tie him tighter to their agenda. The timing is too coincidental. It seems a clumsy attempt, and shouldn't work, but the Guardians don't really understand the way humans think so that doesn't really surprise me. What WILL surprise me is if Guy's new position actually has any effect on how he reacts to stuff. If it does, it will seem rather out of character to me. Though I suspect he will be rather upset to find that John HID his actions from him.

Old tactic. Divide and conquer. Guy will be asked to bring John in or something to test his ties.

It's not like the Alpha's oath is new to the issue.

Plus ... they actually showed the Anti-Monitor in a New 52 issue! I'm shocked at the continuity.

All except that final shot, which a construct Guy actually appears in. He wasn't there for the others.

I know the Oath didn't appear here first, but it's still awful.

They also could be giving Guy the higher rank to plan ahead. Give it to a guy who doesn't really have commanding experience, who is also short tempered, so if/when they decide to bring down the corps they'll be following someone who won't strategize against them well. Not only that but if they can make it so Guy loses his temper and attacks the guardians head on it'll give them a reason to 'fight' [annihilate] back.

Most of the one converted by Henshaw were Rookies. Henshaw went after Rookies because he they would not want to disobey an Alpha Lantern like a more established Lantern would have [Like John saying "No" the first time and I can imagine Guy telling them to go fuck themselves if they approached him[Though in fairness Guy and Honor Guard members actually outrank the Alphas}]

Was a good issue. I'm wondering what the gurdians plan with Guy in the future and what will happen to John. A lot of things to come in the next issues I guess.

Didn't Guy take lead of almost the entire corps against the spider guild invasion?
Didn't he take command of all the corps and lead them to earth to defend it against the black lanterns? As a member of the honor gaurd doesn't he help train all the rookies?

He has lots of experience leading in my opinion.

Yeah they're finally getting past Guy being a retard. He's now a great GL and not simply a flamboiant personality. About time really.

Yep. Back in the 80s and 90s I hated Guy and I relished when Hal beat him down, but now I really like the character (though Hal's still tops).

I agree my initial thought was that this was all just a move to get Guy more sympathetic to the Guardians cause and galvanize him against John. I think it might go to Guy's head for a while but push comes to shove he won't let his pal and comrade take a fall merely because the Guardians declared it...
