good issue, kind of reminding me of what I liked about what I liked in Volume 4.

Watching that mom being torn away from her baby? That had more emotion than the last 3 years worth of stories. I just knew it was going to take the kid.

I laughed so hard when John couldn't say I love you as the reactor went off. That's hilarious and still real. "Our love will protect us." That's essentially everything great and everything wrong with the Star Sapphires and that's what makes them so compelling.

I don't want to jump on the bandwagon for Van Jensen being great, but he far exceeded my expectations with this first issue.

Everything rang true. It flowed together well, even using the technique of jumping back and forth between the sublots. And there were no crazy pointless retcons!

I enjoyed Jensen's first issue. He does an admirable job housekeeping in the wake of the First Lantern, as well as establishing a new baseline. Rebuilding the GLC in a universe that no longer trusts the Corps is a great path forward for these characters and concepts. Jensen gives very natural voices to most of the characters that appeared in this issue, with the exception of Fatality. Not unlike the Hal/Carol scene in Venditti's debut on GL #21, I found the back and forth between John and Yrra melodramatic and forced.

Bernard Chang is a good fit on art for this title, with a very anime-influenced style. Like Tyler Kirkham, his style doesn't lend to very unique faces and expressions, but Chang's action sequences and alien designs are solid.

Now that the epilogue is out of the way, I'm interested to see what both writers have charged up in their power batteries.

I don't think those new Lanterns are going anywhere anytime soon
This was def way better than GL21

Van Jensen is an amazing writer, and I loved this issue. Also Van wrote my other favorite series Pinocchio Vampire Slayer.

Could be, but that could be very dangerous. After all, sociopaths manage to remove the fear of authority and even of bodily harm.

At any rate, I'm sure this will come up again with the character. Maybe he'll even wash out or have to change his whole life view.

You would think the ring could either sense when a person can't leave or the recruit really could override it. I mean jeez, what if it was an infant? The GLC would've been responsible for the kid's death. All it would have to do is keep calling her and eventually offer an ultimatum.

Oh, jump, jump. There's plenty of room. Besides, we GL fans are fickle. We'll be quite willing to turn the wagon over if it doesn't go in the direction we want.

I would hope not. The ring doesn't have a personality. Its not (or at least it shouldn't be) about the situation they are going through. The rings search for someone with great willpower and the ability to overcome fear. That's it. And I like it like that. If the ring makes a mother abandon her child, then that's the fallback. Maybe if Salaak didn't quit his job, he could have notified someone to help the kid. lol

Somewhere in the 1990s, I'd wager.

It's certainly something to see the most jaded of us on this board unanimously impressed by a single issue of a GL comic. There's always so much worthy of hating on.

What am I going to DO with myself now if I can't complain?!? I'm going to have to write a strongly worded letter to DC about that! How DARE they take away my ability to bitch and moan! (kicks can with pouty face)
