  • John Stewart as a Darkstar

Has anyone read his appearances in this book? I liked the concept and enjoyed seeing Ferrin Colos in the Trinity crossover, but I've never found back issues for the Darkstars series itself.

Read them all. They're really not too bad... John Stewart did a respectable job of making a new name and life for himself in the Darkstars.

I said no, because when I read them, it was just too much of a disappointment for me, after reading him in Mosaic. Perhaps I didn't give them a fair shake.

Nope. John is a Green Lantern. Having him do anything else is a waste of time and panel space.

I never collected that story, but I should probably pick it up some day (just like I should get the rest of Guy's title).

I didn't like what I saw of the Darkstars and John's run in them when they crossed over into the titles I was reading.

Just another failed attempt by DC to make one of the "other" Green Lanterns into something else.

I don't mind the attempt, its the failure that bothers me. I would be quite satisfied with any of the lanterns finding success as long as it isn't at the cost of another.

It keeps failing because the four of them were meant to be green Lanterns, and that's what their fans want them to be.

Not a spirit of redemption, a Vuldarian warrior, a Darkstar, or a white lantern.

As noted before, while I can agree with you on the above list, I still think Guy was at his best with the yellow ring.

Of course, with Sinestro's return, and the advent of the emotional spectrum, that would no longer really work for him, so we can't go back to that. So green it is (though I will admit that, for a temporary thing, Guy going Red made a surprising amount of sense).

I never did care for the Dorkstars.

                      Or Sentinel.

Why in the HELL can't DC get that?

And instead of using the viable Earth Lanterns that they've already got, they change them into something else, flush Jade so they can be politically correct and make Alan gay, and create Simon Baz so they can be even more politically correct!

What is the point of being Politicaly Correct if no one wants to read your comic DC?

Here's my issue with how they do it: They want to flush something that works and replace it with something that's politically correct but might not work.

The operant word there is REPLACE. If you have any sense at all, you realize that a struggling industry needs above all to keep what's working for it. If the goal of your shareholders is to save the world (which I doubt), and you want to ADD something that's politically correct to the mix and see whether that works, that's OK. But to do it the way they do is stupid and self-destructive.

If what they were doing was working, they wouldn't be struggling. It's like when you had Didio claiming that a reboot was needed because sales were going down too much. What I thought was "Wait, if the sales went down on your watch, why are you still sticking around?"

Simon's problem is that his intro story was so bad that it hobbled him from the start. All he needs is a good writer who can make him distinct from the other human lanterns. He's not Ms. Marvel, but if he could get that kind of support it would help.

Baz is Geoff's character. Let him deal with the problem -- just so long as it doesn't involve any sort of REPLACING...
