  • The difference between New Guardians and Green Lanterns?

What exactly is the difference between a New Guardian and regular Green Lantern?

Are New Guardians more powerful or don't have to recharge??

  • #2
The New Guardians were created to sell toys and appeal to a broader and less discerning audience.

The Green Lanterns were created to sell comic books and tell interesting stories.

    Hope that clears it up...

      He's right.

Though Geoff Johns might put it differently.

The New Guardians are the leaders of their respective rainbow corps (but not the entities): Atrocitus, Larfleeze, Sinestro, maybe Hal, Saint Walker, Indigo-1, and Carol.

It's not Hal. Kyle is representing the greens in this one.

          Not really
Glad you got that out of your system though

Curious why you thought to pick out Hal, when NONE of those listed (except Saint Walker and POSSIBLY Carol) are the representatives in the upcoming comic?

That list, however (including Hal) is correct if one is referring to the "New Guardians" as currently referred to (on comic covers, anyway- not sure that term has been used at all inside a comic- maybe it has).

In the upcoming comic, it is Kyle, Bleeze, Glomulus, Saint Walker, Arkillo, Munk, and probably either Carol or Fatality, judging by the cover of #1.

little blue guys = Guradians = "All Powerfull Beings" creators of the rings
"supposedly" 2 in each sector = Green Lanterns = replaceable at death

As you say, I was going with the most recent story line. I haven't read the solicits on the new book. I didn't realize it would be different.
Kyle wasn't the NG in that story was he?

No. Hal was the one hanging out with all the other Corps leaders, so he would be the one considered a "New Guardian" in that storyline, though unlike the others Hal really wasn't the "leader" of his respective Corps.

Huh? Bleeze can't even think, Glomulus doesn't exist, and even if he did he's a pit slug and all he knew how to say was "Yumma!" "Yum!" "Mine?" "Mine!" "Glomulus says mine!" "Hoo!" and "Hee!" and possibly "Hungry!", "Ooh!", and "Food!", and Arkillo is... OK, but his personality doesn't exactly scream "protector of the universe." And the SS NG is definitely Carol, since Fatality was just a member, not even CLOSE to being their leader.
                    Nok.

In case you missed it, it seems pretty clear that, for the purposes of the new book, the "New Guardians" concept no longer includes the "leaders" of the respective Corps. It now seems to simply be a group to which each Corps sends a representative. So I see no reason to assume the SS is Carol. It COULD be (Saint Walker is part of the group, so there is SOME continuity) but it could very easily be Fatality. Or somebody else.

I'm assuming, as far as Glomulus goes, he is there simply so Larfleeze can feel inlcuded (and keep an eye on them) without Larfleeze being bothered with actively participating.

And with respect to Bleez, given the new Red Lantern ongoing title, I figure they MUST be planning on modifying the mindless nature of Red Lanterns somewhat. I mean, what's the alternative?

I'm surprised by Arkillo, too, but mostly because I thought he and Sinestro were on good terms, and it seems likely Sinestro would view this group with contempt, especially led by Kyle, so I'd expect him to stick some guy he hated with "New Guardians" duty.

Wouldn't make sense if it was Carol. I could understand Saint Walker however.
As for Sinestro, it would never work with Kyle being the leader. Sinestro actually showed a little respect towards Hal. He won't do the same for Kyle.

I sure hope there are some real plans for the New Guardians. The lineup seems to suggest otherwise. Glomulus and Arkillo are particularly disappointing, for obvious reasons, but the fact that the top members of every corps except Blue are missing seems to suggest that any important events will be occurring elsewhere.

I doubt anything truly important will occur in New Guardians, after all Johns is still running the show. I'd just be happy if Bedard puts out some quality stories, I loved his R.E.B.E.L.S. work but his GLC stuff was mostly meh to me...except for that one awesome scene with Sinestro and his corps.

I think the best we can hope for is a short run like Emerald Warriors sadly got, and having the title replaced by a Green Lantern title with a much better premise.

They should have called this book 2 things: 1) a mini series and 2) The New New NEW Guardians.
