So now ET was just Hal going on a brief rampage, but leaving the Corps functioning? If the CPB still existed AND was functional, that means either the Corps never went away OR they retconned in Hal KILLING OFF the entire Corps, I would think. Because if he left the CPB intact, AND didn't kill off everybody, you'd still have a bunch of powered up GLs operating at the same time as Kyle. That would be a huge change.

Ganthet's speech to Kyle implied that the Corps was still functional. And there's no mention of Hal's rampage anywhere. There were also a lot more dead Lanterns on Oa's surface, instead of just Skelewog, Sinestro, and the Guardians.

Hal had the drinking problem in Emerald Dawn, however I think you're both remembering Kyle's friend Tyler. Tyler was Kyle's friend I mentioned earlier who in issue #90 or #91 had a drinking problem and Kyle helped him work through it after pulling him out of a car wreck as GL while visiting his mom in California.

I thought it was an interesting friendship worth exploring since Kyle dropped out of college and Tyler got his art degree but couldn't get work.

They've already fundamentally changed the nature of Kyle's character anyway.

The appeal of Kyle in the first place was that he was an "everyman" caught up in a world that he didn't understand and wasn't cut out for but then over time and with hard work came to not only belong but also excel.

Well now he's not an everyman at all.... now he's the one true and chosen, bonafide "Torchbearer"(TM).

He's gone from being Peter Parker to Harry Potter and none of the Kyle sycophants seem to care.

Probably cus he's a cool artists who wears neat clothes.

Who's saying ET didn't happen the same way? I didn't see anything that really negated that. Ganthet still climbs out of a pile of bodies and goes to Earth to give Kyle a ring. Seems like they just didn't have time to retell all the other things that weren't from Kyle's POV.

BTW, I'd be fine with pissing away ET and a lot of the stuff that happened then. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Make the reason Kyle came into the ring something else, or neuter the Parallax story even more.

Wasn't Kyle chosen also because there was no one left to choose? (meaning that they were left at best with a last resort to find someone to re-form a new corps) Besides, I would figure it a better honor to be chosen by the ring than Ganthet.
