Ganthet didn't do anything with ring other then have it genetically locked to Kyle. The using the other emotions is a by product of Sayd having forced the other corps rings onto Kyle, having them burn out while he was using them against the Guardians and then the remaining energy is now in Kyle himself. He's just channeling those energies he's got in him through the green ring he's got. Hope was just the easiest to tap into because he wore that ring in WotGL. But the others he needs more instruction on how to tap into. Otherwise all he can do is burst of energy like he did to Ganthet.

This issue was the pits for me....Kyle is being such a mangina at the moment that nothing short of him ending up slipping Carol the "emerald meat" is gonna save this book in teh short term.

Not anymore. Ganthet created a new ring for Kyle out of thin air; he didn't reprogram an existing one. Who knows what capabilities it may or may not have.

I do not care for the new creative team one bit. The art is bad and I wonder if the writers have ever read a comic with any of the characters in them. They get the history right but the personalities are way off point.

Also I thought Kyle made the ring locked to his genetic structure himself after he stopped being Ion God.

No, the genetic lock thing was a big plot point even before then, first illustrated when, after Zero Hour - an ex-GL stole his ring and tried to use ... sadly failing and subsequently killing herself. Only he and Hal could use the ring.

I'll take Kyle's statement that he never knew his dad to be more figuratively true than factually true. We've only ever seen him talk to his dad once and since then he's been mainly space based. More likely is that the writer just didn't know about that issue. He can't be expected to know everything; I think he's done a good job of trying to keep the boat afloat so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

The ring can access other spectrums because of the time he wore them all together. Sayd was responsible only indirectly. And it's a bit of a retcon because he only ever tapped other spectrums since issue 0.

While he did call out Carol, I took the main point here to be that his residual rage left him cold, specifically not caring whether Alex's grave was fixed or not.

I love the Kyle Red Lantern Costume,,,the gladitorial look as well as the mask. Kyle flew into a "BLIND RAGE" therefore his mask covers his eyes. awesome design.

The writing was tolerable, but dear lord, the art was not. Kyle's Red Lantern helmet is just...ugh.

i thought the helmet was more insectoid with the mandibles and the 3 eyes. i do suspect there will be an issue with kyle tapping into hope more, maybe we will see the training/conversion that the blue lanterns get
